Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Burned a few extra calories today jumping up and down off my chair and peeing my pants during the Packers game!!!

The Stinson is a good shoe, and I seem to get better sole wear with it. Glad you like it so far.

Abasket- I hear you! Glad to see GB get the win!

I am feeling some running goals- or at least events I might attempt- coming on. I can’t blame iDad, but I can blame BUNSEN!!! Before I commit to anything, I need for 9 miles not to feel like 15.

MOWC, feeling chipper about my last couple of outings, might have had to do with the shoes… I’ve got to look into what there are in the way of spring 5Ks here.

Good, Deborah! Should be lots of spring 5ks.

Oopsss… Sorry, MOfWC!

You will get there, MOfWC!

Ran 3.6 while watching a portion of the rerun of the Globes (really wanted to catch what the Russian filmmaker said into the turned off microphone). Watching those bodies in sparkling gowns really makes my legs move faster!

These NFL playoff weekends are not helping my exercise schedule!

Mr. Sabaray and I went to a Bodypump class yesterday. Given how much I hate weights, I thought this might be a good way to incorporate them. It was not terrible and I’m sure I’ll be back. Essentially choreographed routines using light weights. Definitely get a full body workout with an emphasis on form (at least by our instructor).

Went to bed early to mourn both the Ravens and the Broncos. Guess I’ll have to cheer for the Patriots now, or who knows? Maybe the Colts will beat them.

Parts of those bodies were not quite IN the sparkling gowns!

Good morning. Hill was good.
Helped that yesterday on my promised “longer” hike my tardy friend caused us to use my trails instead…meaning they were nicely tramped down. (We had another engagement to be at after snowshoeing so didn’t have time to get out to the conservation area. Frankly, my hill area is more work anyway…)

As an added bonus, someone nearby seems to have bought a snowmobile, so the easement section of the trail was nicely broken as well  It might have otherwise been much heavier going, since this snow is heavy!

5.08 miles run/walk, listening to Serial. What am I going to do when it ends?

Puppy is not at all interested in “keeping quiet.” We have 2 sets of bay windows in the LR that are pretty much floor to ceiling – meaning she can see out to the back yard. She goes nuts when she sees squirrels, and there are quite a few squirrels, so …

She’ll be okay, CBB - we had the same problem with Sabapup. She treats our living room like an agility course. Did you do the laser treatment on her incision?

Today is a rest day for me. KMC, your hill sounds wonderful. Our weather was calling for freezing rain but thankfully we seemed to have escaped it.

Cross country skiing sounds terrific! I haven’t done it in years.

I got a short 4 mile run in this weekend and was very pleased with how well the Fitbit Surge correlated with my Garmin. The average heartrate was within 1 bpm and all the rest of the stats were nearly dead on. So I am really loving the Surge and its’ features. But it looks so clunky! I just don’t know that this is something I want to wear 24/7/365. So I may end up returning it. I wish Fitbit would let you have two devices on the same account - then I would definitely keep the Surge and use it most of the time but on occasions when I’d really care how bad it looks then I’d switch to my old Force. But that isn’t possible so I’m not sure what I’m going to do. First world problem.

I have a lower body workout at the gym tonight with my trainer. I’m looking forward to seeing the Surge data - the heartrate and calories burned info will be very interesting to me because I swear I work harder and end up more exhausted after a 30 min workout than I do after a 30 minute run but the regular Fitbit Force only gave me about 1/3 the calories of the run. It will be interesting to see if I earn more calories for the workout once I’m providing the heartrate data.

3.5 dreadmill miles. Free weights tonight. Icing my knee and trying to wrap my head around regular workouts again.

I really messed up the Vivofit set up. Apparently H’s info got dumped for mine and now we are both on one account. sigh… Will have to try to change things if I can figure it out!

Wow, sounds like some of those bands are more complicated than I would have thought!

Exercise today consisted of about 40 minutes of shoveling. Maybe the ONLY thing worse than the treadmill!!!

For some reason I don’t mind shoveling on my day off in the sun. I feel it uses muscles I normally don’t use and if the snow was fluffy light. I hate wet heavy snow however. I have a lot of qualifiers.

Cardio + weights today. I FINALLY got the activity tracker band I ordered as an early backer through indiegogo – 2 years ago!!! It’s an Amiigo. It’s difficult to make heads or tails out of it – I’m slogging through the manual and getting advice through a FB group. I may end up trying to unload it on Ebay and go for one that’s already got the bugs worked out. The good news is I didn’t spend much on it.

sabaray – no laser treatment on the puppy’s incision. There are no external stitches; they’re all internal and will dissolve. We were afraid she’d need a “cone of shame” or some such to prevent her from trying to get at the incision site, but so far she’s ignoring it. I gave her the pain meds for 2 days and then stopped them. (Heck, I yanked the pain meds from both D & S after 1 day when they had their wisdom teeth out!)

Woke up for what was going to be my 4 mile outside run and heard the wind howling. 22 degree windchill (30 real temp) and the new wimpy me just couldn’t face it. The dark doesn’t help, either. So- went downstairs with not enough time to do 4 miles, but did it anyway with some speed work. Late to work, but I have a meeting that goes into dinner, so it all works out.

Wondering what it says about me that I can hardly stand to wear my Brooks Launch shoes, which used to be my favorites (before I discovered Hokas), because I hate the color! I grabbed up the maroon pair when Brooks was discontinuing the shoe in 2012 and had them on the shelf. Broke them out last December (2013) and barely wear them. Brooks wound up bringing back the Launch and now is introducing Launch 2, but I only have 41 miles on the maroon uglies. Wore them this morning- good treadmill shoe. Responsive and pretty light.

Outside swim despite the cold. We just have to suck it up and get out there.

Fitness center for 3 miles and some rowing that I wish was on a lake with sunshine and warm breezes but instead was inside, stationary and not very picturesque!
