Love the video, iDad.
Bunsen- hope the calf relaxes and heals up quickly.
Thanks, MOfWC and Deborah! It is getting better. I just brute-forced some steep hill walking on it. Survived!
Oooh. The attack of the killer calf cramp. Not good. It’s always something…
Amen.
I’m ridiculously sore (quads mostly) from hiking yesterday. Good sore, though.
The middle-of-the-night calf cramps are horrible. Nothing like being woken out of a sound sleep feeling like you’ve been stabbed in the calf.
Magnesium helped me a lot to reduce the incidence of these.
Yes, I have a bottle of capsules. Need to start taking them again!
The muscle is not 100%, but doing better this morning. I gave it a good soak in MgSO4 solution last night. Even though it is irritating, it is minor stuff.
Ohio, how is your brother doing?
I’m really struggling with lower leg pain. shin splints, I’m pretty sure. :(. Very discouraged.
I’m doing what I can. Switched out my shoes, icing, ibuprofen. Today it was pretty painful but I wanted to get out so I went for a 3 mile walk. Wasn’t a great idea.
Tough time of the year, cold and cloudy. Trying not to eat everything in sight, lol!
^Bunsen, I just figured out where your screen name came from
Ouch Deb! Think it’s a result of your recent race??? Hope you see some gradual improvement.
Deb- sorry. It will heal. I hope you don’t have a stress fracture.
It was the race I did. I don’t do many races but I should have been smarter. I should have walked the 5k after the 8k. I think I would have been fine. It didn’t help that I stood at a bar for hours and then drove 2 hours home.
It will heal, it just takes time. Which is the worst. Hoping it’s not a stress fracture either. I have my annual checkup soon so if it’s still bad, I’ll get an X-ray. My D had shin splints and a stress fracture in HS, now I know what she was going through.

Went to a new class at the gym today–resistance ball training. It was 45 minutes of exercises with/on a resistance/stability ball. Mostly it was core work, but we also did several sets of exercises using hand weights that worked on biceps and triceps while still on the resistance ball. Hardest exercises for me were the balance exercises where you did the moves with your knees on the ball. Yikes!! After the class, I did an hour on the Cybex Arc machine (elliptical-type machine).
Idad: your hike looks great.
Deb: Hope your injury resolves itself quickly. BB: You too–those cramps are killers.
Health food?
I finally got around to putting together some photos from a post-Thanksgiving BBQ in the snow. Beef short ribs, baby back ribs, pork butt pulled pork BBQ. Don’t go full screen high def on this one unless you want to get really, really hungry.
Deb - hope you are better today. Those pains where you don’t know what’s up are the worst.
Did 6 miles yesterday morning and then had my first Pilates session at the new place. Spent an hour working on the Cadillac (which was new for me) - but it was terrific! They offer a nice mix of classes but private instruction is readily available too, which I like - I can focus on my specific concerns. One side of my body is substantially weaker than the other due to a car accident several years ago, so I really want to focus on becoming more balanced. I think this will be a better fit for me - plus it’s a block from my office. Can’t beat that.
Health food indeed! I think you missed the collard greens and mac and cheese, iDad! And my invitation was lost in the mail. What a set-up though! Looks delicious.
Sorry for the double post. I’ve been having trouble with this site and posting.
I’m sure this will clear. Injuries are a pain, my H says that’s running.
Sounds like a better schedule for you, sabaray. iDad- nice video and great looking food.
Your BBQ sauce looks fantastic iDad!!!
