C3Baker - Just to clarify, we haven’t been carless for 6 weeks; we’ve had 1 car here in the city, instead of 2. Since H works from home and is very flexible, most of the time it’s no problem to share the car. Tues & Wed this week, though, he had day-long meetings starting fairly early. (Of course he could have taken the T to get to the meetings, but …)
Yesterday was cardio + weights; this morning more cardio, including a bike ride (indoors). So I’ve given my toes a week to heal; will try running again on Monday. Hopefully there will be no blood!
The rain yesterday and today is melting the snow – YAY! Tomorrow we may get more snow – BOO!
CC has been having issues. Combination of college decision letters going out and some other glitches. I think the new platform they moved to was supposed to solve those issues, but they seem to still exist.
Just saw a wonderful piece on a woman who gets kids out of the city and onto mountain bikes. Kids can learn how to work on bikes in order to earn their own bike.
Second bike ride of the week today since my back injury. Took it pretty easy, rode for 40 minutes and felt okay. Enjoyed the sunshine and temps in the 60’s, and also listened to the first several chapters of a new audio book. Very good time!
Last Saturday morning when I ran in Ft. Myers it was 68 and sunny. This morning here in TN it was 28 and sunny. I could barely stand to get myself out the door, but once I did it was fine. I wore all the winter stuff- Lulu puff, headband, gloves, fleece tights. There was a little north wind, so I never regretted wearing all that. 6.2 fairly hilly miles done.
I’m ready for winter to be over. Clearly it hasn’t gotten the message. When I left my house this morning at 5:20, it was 32 degrees. Less than two hours later it had dropped to 25. Cold wind and snow in our faces for about the first five miles. Ended up with a little over 10. Got home, walked the dogs, ran errands. I had TRX last night - I really do enjoy that. In a group setting it’s far less painful! All said, I think today calls for a nap!
Got to a bike trail at sunrise to beat the crowds. Did another 40 minutes on the bike and listened to some more chapters of my book. Ended where the protagonist is on her knees as her house burns around her, thinking she is really tired and considers just laying down “to rest a while.” Purposely keeping myself from listening further, as it will give me incentive to exercise again tomorrow.
Nrdsb4, glad to hear you are getting out on the bike and getting back into the swing of things. If I may make a suggestion, I would refrain from listening to your book while you ride. While you are riding on trails (doing this riding on the road would be suicidal), none-the-less, riding with earbuds in is highly not recommended. You may not hear the sounds of bikes approaching from the rear and listening to a book requires a degree of attentiveness and focus that will distract you from being aware of what’s around you and the nuances of the path such as debris or defects etc. While I understand why it’s tempting, it’s realy one of the most unsafe practices I see new riders do.
15 degrees here this morning for the early pup walk. Didn’t, but it felt so cold I felt like there should be a foot of snow on the ground!
MOWC, my S was so disappointed - he is in Nashville visiting friends for the weekend - was hoping for some of that balmy weather you had earlier in the week (compared to ours!) but instead is down there during freeze warnings! He did manage to get in a round of casual tennis with his buddy in N-ville - they played together in high school and against each other in college!
More dreaded Airdyne for me as cold and (yikes) snow have returned. A new batch of Jacques and Julia’s Mediterranean Seafood Stew for dinner. I’ve figured out how to make it work perfectly for one. I make enough for four big dinner servings with a pound of chopped clams. Divide that into four freezer portions.
Then, buy a 1 lb container of “chowder fish” – small bits of cod, haddock, salmon, scallops – from the fish counter. Cut and freeze half of that for the next meal. Heat one portion of the stew, dump in the saffron, dump in the half lb of chowder fish. And voila. Second meal, with the seafood, in the freezer waiting. Buy a second batch of chowder fish for the third and fourth meals.
High of only 38 here today, but it’s supposed to warm up during the week. It’s almost April!
Got DH out for a walk today. Now he has some foot issue that’s keeping him from an easy stride. His walk is more of a stroll, in my opinion. I definitely need to walk on my own because it’s one thing after another with him. He can’t walk fast enough to get his heart rate up, and that worries me. He’s younger than I am! But way more sedentary.
Just saw a video on Ernestine Shepherd, world’s oldest bodybuilder. At 77, she’s an inspiration to us all! Look for “The Remarkable Story of Ernestine Shepherd” on youtube.
