I’d trade a week of our 90’s for one freezing or rainy night.
Good luck in both of your races, MoWC!
I ran 3 miles today, did some shoulder/upper body weights, planks, stretching, and walked 2 miles tonight. I wanted to hop off the treadmill after two miles, but stayed on. My worst reason ever for wanting to cut short a workout? I had my hair cut and dried today, and didn’t want to get it sweaty, thus negating the salon work. Ha. I decided that keeping my “appointment” with the gym was more worthy, and the hair stayed just fine anyway. Whew.
Did a 4.5 mile run yesterday after work. It was unseasonably warm, 77 degrees, and 20 mph winds - felt like I was in a convection oven. I really struggled, I think I’m just not used to the heat yet. I certainly run in much hotter weather than that in the summer. Fortunately a front is blowing through and the temperatures are cooling and the winds should subside overnight. I am glad because we have a 10 Miler in the morning. It’s the last in a series of training races before the half marathon in 3 weeks. We ran the 3 Miler in early February, the 6 Miler in early March, and now the 10 Miler tomorrow. It’s good for getting people new to running longer distances to build up to the half marathon. We have enjoyed participating!
iDad-I cannot believe you are still having accumulating snow. Actually I can believe it, just don’t want to. Here’s hoping today is the last of it.
MOWC-enjoy your races tomorrow. I think it is fantastic that your company participates in these corporate challenges!
Sabaray - I hope you are enjoying your rest day today. You earned it!
My cold is finally feeling a bit better so I ran 3 miles. I have a 10k in May, so I need to be more consistent in my training. The weather is finally getting better so I think it won’t be too hard. Just have to do it and get some longer runs in.
Yesterday, while visiting a friend, I joined her for a barre class. This morning, there are lots of aching muscles. Ouch. It was an interesting workout – not cardio, not strength training. I searched and there is a studio near my house, so I may explore doing it again. My friend swears it’s toned her body in ways no other exercise has.
C3Baker- It takes time to adjust to weather changes. I go through that every year. I like warmer weather, but those first few runs I feel like I’m in an oven.
Did 11.5 miles today on the bike. Slowly working my way back up to my higher mileage, and then hope to start increasing from my personal best. It was very chilly this morning in Dallas; very unusual for April but quite welcome!
Did my Day 3 C25K workout and some light strength work. Checking in here broke my habit of stopping when I miss a day. Meetings yesterday kept me from doing anything physical, but I started right back today because I knew I needed to report! Have a good weekend everyone.
Runnersmom, I logged EVERYDAY here I think when I was doing C25K - the good days AND the not so good days! If it gets you out there, it’s the right thing to do!
Well, I actually climbed on the dreaded Airdyne for a few minutes between on-line Masters streaming and Masters TV broadcast. Pedalled really easy for a while until I had a sneezing fit. Still, was good to get moving a little bit. No sudafed or ibuprofen since this morning and I feel pretty good. Pronouncing myself cured!
Is it a stupid question to ask the difference between an airdyne and a regular stationary bike? I basically quit doing anything this winter once I couldn’t ride outside. Next year I need to better. But usually I find stationary bikes to be arduous, boring torture.
Visiting my D and son-in-law in Chapel Hill. It was spitting out snow when I left Boston! What a difference a 2-hour plane ride makes. It’s green here and there are tons of flowering trees.
Been walking a 2.6 mile course the last 3 mornings; first half is all uphill. I feel like I’ve gotten a reward on the way down.
Nrdbs4- Multiply that torture by about 10 and you have the Airdyne! They have them at Cooper’s (at least they used to). You use your arms, too, and it’s really hard. The harder you pump your legs and arms, the harder the resistance.
Really pushed the 5K, but was slower than last month by 6 seconds and slower than last year by about 50 seconds. It’s all I had today. 28:51 and won my age group. Corporate team was 3rd and we had a good turnout so we bumped up into the bigger teams category.
Tried to take it easy in the 10K- really did this just for the mileage- but, it’s a race and all, so… Dropped my pace each mile and moved through the field (since I started at the back since I was barely back from the 5K when the 10K started). 1:02:35, which was 35 seconds slower than last year. It is what it is. I got 2nd in the 10K for my age group.
I’m just glad to still be out there, but it is an adjustment to be running those kinds of times after what I used to run. Not complaining…but one of the few negatives about being at this for so many years is that you get to see a steady decline. H won his age group and he was about 45 seconds slower than last month, but he’s been biking more than running this past month. Our friend set a state record for 10K for age 74. 46 minutes plus. Amazing. Weather was really good- 50 at the start and probably up to 63 by the end of the 10K. I wore capris, a Nuu-Muu with my short sleeved team shirt over it, and one of those Pearl Izumi shrugs which gives you sleeves but no front. I tossed it to H before I headed off on the 10K. I would have been OK without the shrug in the 5K, but I wouldn’t have been OK waiting around for it to start without having it.
