Nah, she did confront the president of the bike club when he pulled up across from her house, which was on the route. Claimed once again that we needed a state permit. Just really has it out for cyclists.

Training to ride a ride such as this is not as tough as you may think. You can generally ride 30-50% further than your longest training ride, particularly if you slow down a bit. It’s a question of just getting in enough saddle time to build a strong foundation. I only have 3 1/2 weeks until my 4 day Habitat ride. I need to get in as many long rides as I can before then :).

Glad your rider is mainly OK, Michael, and that the ride went smoothly.

Thanks, everyone. I look a little rough, but I didn’t break anything which is a risk with my bone density issues. I must not have gotten my hands out at all, since there isn’t a mark on them. Usually I break my fall at least a little bit.

Sounds like they need to fix that bridge - or you should just avoid it!

And yep, it doesn’t surprise me that you wiped off the blood and continued on your merry 4 more miles way!!!

MOfWC, so glad that nothing is broken!!! Sometimes, those hands just don’t feel like becoming scratched. :frowning:

Michael, that lady is a piece of works. Maybe she was trying to shake a few bucks out of your club to pad the budget in case they start litigating cases filed by a bunch of bike riding lawyers complaining about being forced to get a permit where it was not needed.

Those short wooden bridges can’t be avoided and really aren’t in any disrepair. They are just a little uneven. I need to pick my feet up more. It’s the distance runner’s shuffle that does me in. Although, the wood gets slippery when wet and a cyclist is actually suing the city because he had a bad fall. They do have warnings posted about that.
I was so worried about falling in Philadelphia last week on the really uneven sidewalks, and I come home and crash on my familiar course.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who has a tendency to shuffle. That’s something I’m really working on. Hope you’re not feeling too many aches and pains this morning.

Beautiful morning, spent it with my two furry kids having a nice stroll around. They were happy to greet one of our elderly neighbors who just lost her husband recently. She still walks a big loop around the neighborhood every day - Sabadog has a major soft spot for her!

It’s going to be a long day. We’re taking my mother to visit D and have brunch together. Lots of time in the car. Have I mentioned my husband is a saint?

Thanks. I’m not too bad today. I feel about the soreness I would expect from a 10 mile run plus a little extra in the neck and shoulders. My legs were tired, but I ran 4.1 miles. There is a new bruise below the cuts in the outside corner of my eye below the cuts. I wonder if my sunglasses got me?

The runners who helped me were teasing me, because as I was lying on the ground bleeding, my first thought was to stop my Garmin!

MOWC - had to laugh at the Garmin comment. Mileage pace is definitely more important than treating a head gash!

MOWC, you are too, too funny! But I fully understand lol.

Glad you’re OK MOWC - the Garmin thing made me laugh!

I ran in another 5K this morning, a Mother’s Day event put on by the Rotary Club, but they got the distance off by such a huge amount! My Garmin clocked it at 4.4 miles. Thank goodness I had the Garmin, or I would have thought I was having a really bad day. Once I hit the halfway point & realized it was at 2.2 miles, I decided to just run to the 3.5 mile point (a new personal long distance) & walk the rest. I ended up running again for the last .4 miles just to get to the finish faster. Lovely event otherwise, but it seems like getting the distance right is pretty important!

Way to go on the distance, Gertrude! It IS important to get it right, but Garmins are wonderful for telling you how you really did. I think I’m still in trouble with one of our senior VPs at work for crossing the finish line at the company 5K a couple of weeks ago and announcing to him that it was 2.77 miles! He had won, and he still claims I might be wrong. I’m not.

Glad to hear that everyone made it though their workouts mostly in one piece, and that no one got arrested for violating imaginary biking rules. My back is much better, but I can still feel some soreness. I’m not going to do any weight workouts but I was able to do my 8 mile run today.

Nrdsb4, what is the golf bend?

@Blankmind, I can’t find a picture of it! You know, when golfers pick the ball out of the cup, they brace their weight by putting one hand on the club, kind of balance on one leg, bend at the knee, and kind of tip over to reach the ball. They aren’t bending at the waist. I do this to pick things up if I can. You put your hand on a surface to help balance and carry some of the weight, then lean over to get it by bending at the knee.

I don’t know if I’m describing it well.

That’s a pretty good visual! I’m sure even someone who does not personally golf has seen that move - on the evening sports news, golf channel, or from the window of a golf course hotel.

Lift with your limbs, not with your back, as my father used to say.

4.4 miles is QUITE a bit off from 3.1! Those Rotarians need to learn to measure!

Was hoping for a Mother’s Day bike run with my youngest but it’s been showering on and off all afternoon so not sure we will get it in.

Had a nice 6.4 mile run to start off the day.

All I can claim today are two dog walks, a marathon walk to and from brunch and oh yes, a marathon brunch complete with a brunch bowl. Short detour to Lulu and I added to my collection with zero guilt. Hope everyone had a great day!

Did an 8-mile run today!

I’m grilling steaks after my short run.

Well, we completely skipped spring in NH. 5K hilly neighborhood walk this afternoon. 87 degrees and muggy. Almost got caught out by an unforecasted thunder boomer that rolled through right after I got home.

Jacques and Julia’s Mediterranean Seafood Stew for dinner. Yum.
