It wasn’t just a few drops either! This is (I think) my 6th Color Run - all were good weather til now!

I really wanted to go to the trail today! Woke up late, and it was already 75 degrees. The trail gets a ton of sun between 10:30 am and 4 pm… So the plans had to be adjusted. My back started to peel from last weekend’s sunburn (stupid!), and I don’t want to add more damage. I have not had sunburns in ages…

Good for you, pizzagirl, for supporting her.

Runningskirts.com (I haven’t ordered from there in ages due to Lulu etc) has a new print called Kona that Im going to try in the running skirt style. It has the briefs underneath.

Can someone explain running skirts to me? Is it just a fashion/style choice, or do they they feel more comfortable when running?

The skirts are either worn over tights or some styles have built in stretchy undershorts. This provides the compression benefit of tights and bum coverage without the bulk of shorts. Plus, some simply look cool.

This sums up the benefits of running skirts well:

I especially like that last point.

Great points!

I have a couple and there are somedays it just feels right to wear them. I should wear them more because I feel that I really do like the “feel” of the flounce when running. Mine all have under panties/shorts attached. I

I really like the Nuu-Muu dresses. There are so many options for what I can wear underneath for bottoms as well as over the dress if it is cooler. I love skirts, too, and shorts. I like choices. You see more and more skirts these days. They are cute, comfortable and sassy. Many women feel that they chafe a lot less in skirts than in shorts.

Yes!! Definitely less chafing. Because a lot of shorts have liners made of mesh like fabric that feels abrasive at the end of a long run. Some makers finally figured it out! Ask Mr. B why he embraced his Lulu shorts - the linings are soft and comfy. That’s why I like my Lulu shorts, too. I need to get those Oiselle ones - for shorts diversity.

If steps was what I was after, I got my share in this week - lots of outside activity that was NOT running but yesterday accumulated 15,000 just while I happened to have my phone on me. Today was another high day as well and just went out and did a couple unbelievably humid - still dripping - miles between rainstorms. But got it done! Oh! And in honor of the recent skirt talk, wore one of my black with orange trim skirts with my ultra lightweight “peekaboo” back North Face dri fit tees in neon orange. Nobody could miss me!!!

I have 2 running skirt skirts, I really like them. Mine have briefs, not shorts under them and I haven’t had any problems with chafing. But I’m not running more than 6 miles in mine so that may not be a good example.

I’ve been wearing and buying more skirts lately because I feel they give me a bit more coverage than shorts. Lately I found that the shorts I was finding were really short. I am not into booty shorts, they look good on my D but me not so much.

MOWC, you were the one who mentioned how much you like Nuu Muus. I have 2 now, they are so nice. Really comfortable and very versatile and they don’t ride up when running or biking in them. And I can wear them out and feel cute :).

Ran 3.5 miles in my new skirt and almost passed out at the end of my run. I felt like I was running the last 3.5 miles of my first marathon. Too hot for my taste, and I was already tired after pressure washing the porch and the driveway. Ugh. I looked like a dead bug crawling, barely keeping 8:30 pace. But the skirt looked awesome.

That’s the power of the skirt, Bunsen.

If an 8:30 pace is a dead bug crawling, I can’t imagine what I am!

Hot and humid already this morning at 5 but got out there with the group and did 6. Felt good after the 9 on Saturday and the mat class yesterday (which I loved! It was awesome!).

Glad the skirt got you through it, Bunsen! What I did out there this morning was actually close to crawling. I am VERY tired from the race. It’s hot and humid, and I haven’t quite adjusted to that. Last summer I didn’t have to, since I was on crutches.

Aren’t you glad you can enjoy the weather in all it’s glory this year, MOWC!

I need to get my eating on track. I know, I say that every Monday. Last night we grilled “pizzas” - small naan from Costco topped with pesto, red onion, shrimp sauteed in coconut oil and fontina. It did not agree with my stomach this morning. We tried a new burger place Saturday, which was delicious, but again, not the best thing to eat.

Michael, did you survive the last day of the ride or did I miss a post?

I am VERY glad to be able to run. I only allow myself to complain about one season of weather- and that is winter. The heat is a definite adjustment, though, and is tiring.

I really like the running skirts with the briefs. The early boy short/bike short under layers (when the skirts first came out) were not good and rode up. The grippers and new designs fixed that a few years ago.

For those that run outside year-round and don’t live in a warm-weather climate, what do you usually wear for rain and/or cold? Any favorites (either brands or specific items)?

I don’t like running in the rain, but sometimes I have to. A hat with a brim is key. I wear capris or tights (depending on the termp) and if it’s below 60 maybe a light jacket. I have waterproof jackets, but they tend not to breathe well.

Cold is easier- iDad can give you the run-down, but the Polar fleece is my go-to winter wardrobe, both for tights and tops. I hate to be cold, so I might wear more than some others on here.

Thanks! Hat with a brim - that makes sense! Do you have a Columbia-type hiking hat, or is this something specifically for running?
