Yeah, that’s sort of it. Actually switched plans and didn’t like my old doctor anyway so need to “pick” a new one- likely a doctor here on campus or one of our satellite FB offices. I just need to do it! I’ll also admit that while I don’t suspect anything wrong, I don’t want to FIND anything wrong to have to deal with. Bad example of not putting myself first. I have done my female check up and mammo regularly the last couple of years. And the dentist. So that’s something. Need to schedule follow up bone density, eye doctor and a colonoscopy - haven’t had one yet at 55…start yelling…
The early Hot Chocolate runs were a definite disaster. The DC and Chicago debacles made news all over the running world. They did get their act together and the Nashville races (2 years now) were flawless.
abasket, I’m an ob-gyn’s wife, and I get behind on my pap smears, breast exams, and so forth! I turned 50 back in Dec and still haven’t had my colonoscopy. The bloodwork that I had done - H just nagged me and finally I gave in. I am not a doctor-person!
Official nag here: go get your colonoscopies everyone! I’m taking my mother in for a repeat one in a few weeks so they can biopsy suspicious polyps found during the routine one.
Easy for me to say, I am not 50 quite yet (will hit it late next year) and haven’t had one yet.
Thanks for sharing your experience with dehydration, MOWC. I really try to up my fluids in the summer - don’t forget you can also get added water from fresh fruits and vegetables - plus they’re whole foods that are good for you with no added sugar!
The strange thing is that nothing was different yesterday. I do eat a lot of fruits and we had a giant salad for dinner (our whole dinner) with great veggies from my CSA. I did get up a lot during the night to pee, but that isn’t that unusual. I drank a little bit before I headed out to run, but not a lot. Nothing different from any other morning, but it had to be dehydration with a 2 pound weight difference.
I am not recovering just terrifically from the race on Saturday. It feels like a marathon recovery instead of a half marathon recovery. It was just really hard with the hills and heat. I skipped my run last night (had done a little in the morning) to give myself some needed rest. I can’t believe in 2013 I ran a marathon on Saturday and a half on Sunday in April.
We’re you a bit under the weather the week before the race, too? That may make your recovery tougher as well.
I have started carrying water with me no matter how short the run. Some days I don’t need it, but when I do, I really need it. I sweat like crazy - my weight is always down substantially after exercise. Unfortunately, it seems to find it’s way back.
^^^ Did you drink coffee or a lot of tea the day before? Doesn’t caffeine tend to dehydrate???
Lunch time spin and 1.5 miles on the treadmill - got her done!
Did a Zumba Gold class for the first time in months–it’s only offered Tuesday mornings and I usually have rehearsals then. I used the pre-summer hiatus week to get my butt into an organized class.
All I can say is, she kept us going past the time when I would have quit on my own! A class is so different from working out on your own, and strenuous dancing is more exercise than walking! It’s good to be reminded of this every so often…
To be extra virtuous, I walked to the rec center and back for the class. Then I made myself a banana/yogurt smoothie at home.
I’m not a coffee drinker, and I didn’t drink any more caffeine (iced tea) than usual. I stop my caffeine after lunch or else I have trouble sleeping. There used to be a lot of cautions about caffeine being dehydrating (which it is), but current thought is that it is still liquid and it just means you might pee a little more and need to drink a little more. It is NOT true that it is a waste to drink liquids with caffeine in terms of hydrating.
@notrichenough - The stress test with imaging involves the use of injected dye so that the blood flow in the coronary arteries can be scanned before and after the stress test to determine the existence of any blockages or failure of the vessels to expand properly as blood flow increases.
Funny story – I was at the supermarket and some strange guy walks by me and says, “You work out.” My workouts must show! I don’t have bulging muscles, but I guess I’m toned for my age.
Decided to change up my running schedule – instead of a longish run once a week, I’m doing a shorter run twice a week.
When I decided I needed to lose a couple pounds before my college reunion, I religiously kept my food diary. I managed to lose the weight. It is truly remarkable how it can take 3 weeks to lose 2 pounds, and one weekend to gain it back.
Off to yoga class.
I had to escape the construction today (sheet rocking the kitchen), so I took of for a little hike at the nearby state park. Nothing dramatic, just a 5+ mile loop over a little mountain, down by a lake, and so forth and so on. Warm 85 degree day. Lots of bug spray as the skeeters were swarming. Awesome fresh air and exercise.
iDad will your winter misery ever go away??? Assuming your work is related to 2015 Winter of Hell…
Was a lazy bum Monday and Tuesday. Just some light stretching and the roller to have some recovery days after 9 days “on” including the 4 day Habitat ride (which also included a TRX workout after day 3 of the ride while everyone else relaxed and drank beer; did I have my priorities wrong or what!). Upper body free weight routine in my studio tonight. Time to get back into the rthyme of things :).
I was thinking about that today. Temps in the mid to high 80s and this whole ice dam nightmare started back when temps were around zero an there was 40 feet of snow piled up (or something like that).
I remember the day the crew came to bust up the ice dams. I had to move my grill, which was frozen to the ground, but I thought it was good they were working on it. Little did I know that idiot was up there attacking the roof with a pick axe. The holes he hammered in the roof caused water damage in 46 units…
I now have insulated walls and ceilings with new sheetrock everywhere. Next up is several days of taping, plastering, and sanding the joints.
And soon you will get new texture and paint!
Glad you got a hike in, iDad!
Michael- I would have gone for the beer, for sure.
Had a moment of serendipity on my hike. I was catching up on an iPod backlog of my favorite NPR podcasts. Appropriately enough, the one I was listening to was the author of “How to Raise a Wild Child”, all about getting kids to play outdoors. All the sudden, what comes bounding down the trail, but a school group of 70, yes 70, sixth graders from a nearby school.
This is a really easy southern NH hike. Perfect for a school outing…
Awesome variety of terrain, close to home, halfway between Manchester and Portsmouth. It’s a snow shoeing haunt in winter, but I’ve decided that it’s OK to go do a quick five or six mile loop without driving all day. This park has two different loops – the North Mountain loop and the South Mountain loop that each take 3 to 4 hours and have just enough elevation gain to get the heart rate up. I actually got lost today. For the second time in that place, I ended up walking down a road in the complete opposite direction I thought I was going. Looked at my GPS and said, “Oops”… So, I got a little extra distance…
Ah yes, ceiling texture and paint. That’s why I now have to lift a plastic sheet to do anything anywhere in the house. Get in bed. Get in my bureau drawers. Get to my makeshift clothes rack (subbing for a closet that’s under construction). Watch TV. Get to the sofa. Get to the food stored in bins on the dining room table And, now, get to the kitchen counter.
ServPro left an industrial size roll of plastic sheeting, so I’ve just cut huge pieces to cover everything.
I had trouble again this morning and my weight was even lower. I was sure with everything I drank yesterday I would be back up to the weight of a couple of days ago. I felt dehydrated again and my HR was way high. I ran 2 1/2 miles and had to stop and rest several times. Not good. It’s almost like I am dehydrating overnight, unless I have just a little touch of something. I felt fine on the treadmill (HR OK) after work yesterday, though. I’m not terribly concerned, although it better resolve soon!
In better news- I got the doctor’s letter for the standing workstation (actually, adjustable work station), so that is in the mill!
