Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

5.04 miles on the treadmill this morning, after more than a couple days off. The new running shoes feel great. I’m always amazed at the difference when I put on a new pair – usually the “old” ones don’t feel all that bad, but clearly there’s a lot less cushioning. We’re getting some much needed rain today, so I won’t complain about running inside.

Congratulations ohiopublic!

Fallgirl, I agree wholeheartedly. I started with the C25K and then started tracking my food. I’m back to whatever week has 25 minute run segments today and it felt pretty good. The weekend was a wash, food wise, but back to cleaner eating today. I think just committing to something active makes a huge difference. I do the C25K training 3x a week, but try to get a long walk or other exercise in at least 2 other days. I can’t say the weight is dropping off, but I definitely have more stamina and feel more fit. It’s worth it, but starting slowly definitely makes it easier to stay on track. Good luck!

Sorry to unleash all of that personality leakage on everyone. ABasket is right. We all our wired differently. I definitely know my wiring is out of whack!

Love the different perspectives here. It’s something you don’t get anywhere else.

No apologies needed Ohiopublic! All those perspectives help us all see or understand what makes others - unlike ourselves - tick.

I’m sure there are some entirely NON-competitive people who actually wish they were a little more competitive!

And some of us we were LESS competitive- especially with our own selves!

It was one of those weekends when you are glad it’s Monday so you can go back to work and get some rest! Saturday morning was an 11.5 mile run. It was tough in the heat and humidity and the route included a lot of hills. I had to walk about a quarter mile near the end because I just couldn’t do the last hill. But even though it was a tough run and I had to walk for a quarter mile, I think it was good training. Part of the run was with our running club and I ran with our police chief for a few miles. He was very encouraging and it was fun to run with him! The rest of Saturday and all day yesterday was outdoor work at home. We’re working on a major patio/deck renovation project and it seems as if it will never end.

Ohiopublic-congratulations! How very cool to be a medal winner and going to national senior meets.

Fallgirl-I think you have a great idea with doing one new thing a week.

I’m planning on a 5 mile run tonight. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. Lots of isolated thunderstorms today, so it’s a matter of timing if I’ll be able to run.

abasket-have you made progress on getting your medical appointments scheduled?

My bike is in the shop. Went for a power walk, got in about 1.7 miles and it began to rain so hard, I couldn’t keep my eyes open, even with sunglasses on.

Walked into the front door looking like I’d jumped into a swimming pool with my clothes on!

(ignoring C3Baker’s question…)

I have not. Please keep bugging me - to just make ONE appointment - putting it on my calendar right now to call in the morning.

Ran 4 miles yesterday and biked 16 miles today. Too bad I can’t swim tomorrow and make it a three-day triathlon.

Weights! My metal toys felt lonely without me, so I played with them a little bit. I bagged the planned run. WTH - 85 degrees at 7 pm? Good for tomatoes, bad for runners!

11 pull ups! I’m impressed:

 Good job!

It’s hot out there, no question. 5:15 am - 74 degrees, 76 percent humidity. Horrible, but 3.3 miles. Time to walk the pups.

I’ve been out there, trying to something active every day. Running, walking, playing golf. I should ride my bike but I don’t know, I haven’t been feeling it. I like to bike when it’s too hot to run comfortably and it’s not hot yet.

I received my oiselle roga shorts yesterday. Really like them, I got them in a bright pink and love the color. They are not too short and super stretchy. Thanks to those who recommended them.

There is also a longer length Roga for those who want a little more coverage (and a shorter one called Mac).
Glad you like them, deb.

Yeah, to something other than micro-mini shorts! Hard to find!

The humidity is RIDICULOUS. I hate to complain after the harsh, frigid winter - hot is one thing, but this humidity is enough to choke you! I wore a tank top to garden this weekend and now am decorated with a myriad of mosquito bites! Brought my exercise clothes to work and will probably just hit the fitness center today rather than choke outside.

Did a one hour bike ride this morning. Went early in anticipation of tropical storm rain which is being forecast.

Got my blood work results this morning.

Triglycerides, BS, and A1c now normal. So no longer considered pre-diabetic.

Every other result which had been out of range was still out of range, though improved. I was hoping for MORE improved for some of them, but maybe I was overly optimistic for what can happen in 8 weeks.

Will keep on keepin’ on!

EXCELLENT news and work Nrdsb4!!! Keep it going!

@C3Baker, thanks to you, I have just made an appt for a new family medicine doc and physical to get things rolling. I did take the liberty to not schedule it till I am back from vacation, but it is scheduled for mid-July. Thanks for the push.

Yay for you, abasket! Scheduling it for after vacation sounds like a good idea - and now that it is on the calendar, you don’t have to think about it anymore. Looking forward to hearing a good report later in July.

Nrdsb4-congrats on the good results! No longer being considered pre-diabetic is great news! And having all your numbers moving in the right direction shows that you are doing all the right things. It is so motivating to see the results of your efforts!

I ran 5 miles last night and it sure was hot and humid.
