Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Oh gosh, Ohio! Did they forget about weights and Pilates? Those are the other two to avoid! Just eat the happy pills and you’ll be alright!

And don’t forget to take your statins if your cholesterol is high. And before you ask, YES, your cholesterol is high.

Abasket- that sounds wonderful!

Abasket, have a wonderful time!

Enjoy your trip, abasket!!

Enjoy your trip, abasket.

Workout with trainer today and did 30 minutes on the elliptical machine and 15 minutes on a rowing machine.

I’m wondering if elliptical will work for me and my eyes in a few days, we have some in our gym at work.

!8 holes of golf, walking. Very hot and humid; probably sweated off several pounds, which I put back on gulping down ice tea and water afterward. Now sitting at home with a “Tornado Watch” in effect. Oops, just this second my weather app downgraded it to a “Severe Thunderstorm Warning.” Sounds OK to me!

MOWC - for the longest time I listened to music while running. Since the early part of the year I’ve been listening to podcasts instead. I started with “Serial” and now listen to various NPR shows – “This American Life,” “Ted Radio Hour” and “Wait,Wait … Don’t Tell Me.” (I have to be careful with the last one if I’m running inside – sometimes I practically fall off the treadmill laughing.)

Sounds like a great trip, basket.

@abasket, have fun. I love love love France.

Bunsen- cute new oolors in the Stuff Your Bra uploaded to Lulu tonight. A black and white striped with pink accents is awesome.

Wow, thanks, MOfWC!

Some fast walkers in the crowd. The best I can do on pavement around the neighborhood is 3.7 miles per hour or 16 minutes per mile. That’s on a pretty hilly route. To go faster, I’ve got to consciously push the pace (borderline race walking) and I really don’t find that very enjoyable.

Best I can average in hiking boots with a backpack and hiking poles is about 2.5 mph or 24 minute miles (that includes stops for water, etc.) I have learned the hard way that it is a big mistake for a geezer like me to try to push the pace on dirt trails. Gotta let the terrain dictate the pace or else … twisted ankle and faceplant…

Tonight’s exercise: a balancing act involving a cherry tree, a ladder, and a large bowl (it looked better than some AGT acts!) After about 40 min of this exercise, we have a bucket of organic cherries sitting on the counter in my kitchen.

(Ordered 2 bras and another skirt from Lulu. Gotta conserve even more water!)

(If you’re squeamish about injections, you may not want to watch.)

Off to Pilates! My fun workout!

4.65 miles on my beach route this morning. I’m one who really just needs to roll out of bed and get it done – otherwise it’s too easy to talk myself out of doing anything. A gorgeous sunny day here – after last night’s crazy thunderstorms. Nine holes of golf (walking) this evening.

We had bad thunderstorms in the night. Walked 3.1 miles this morning, which I am not enjoying. At least I’m getting some fresh air.

Thanks all - ran this morning to get rid of some of my excess energy, excitement and anxiousness! Off to pick up my mom and the airport soon !

Safe travels, abasket!

Have a great trip @abasket! Ran my 30 minutes and covered 2.94 miles! Yay…getting stronger and faster. And down that first pesky 5 lbs. Feels good and I’m motivated to keep going. If I could do 5mph on a regular basis I’d be a happy camper. But, as you have all counseled (and I’m listening)…one step at a time. Literally and figuratively.

It continues to be hot and humid, but I seem to have adjusted to it. Monday night I ran 3.75 miles in my new Altra shoes. I really think I am going to like them - my toes were very happy. I could feel a difference in my calf muscles with the zero drop shoe, but it didn’t hurt and wasn’t sore, it just felt different. I got the Intuition 3, MOWC. I looked at their web site and the Paradigm that you like sound really good with the extra cushioning, so I may try those at some point.

Last night was a 5 mile run back in my regular Brooks shoes and it went well. Tonight is running club so I’m getting a good start on my marathon training plan even though I don’t officially start it for a couple more weeks.

abasket-safe travels and have fun! That sounds like such a wonderful trip to take with your mother and your girls!

MOWC-glad to hear that you are doing well and that your work-at-home set-up is working well for you.

BunsenBurner-Mmmm…those cherries sound fabulous! My daughter talked about the heat in Seattle and how it is expected to be in the 90s this weekend. It is an adjustment for her to be in a non-air conditioned apartment, every place she has lived before this has always had ac. Maybe it will be cooler when she will be hiking in the mountains this weekend.

iDad-I am a very slow hiker. Partly to be safe, partly to enjoy the views, and partly because I’m just slow!

runnersmom-congrats on the weight loss!
