Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Running feels very difficult right now. Amazing what just 2 1/2 weeks off can do to your fitness level. 2 1/2 miles slogged…

I am really struggling with my ankle and am afraid I’m going to have to go to the doctor, which I hate. I ran 5.5 yesterday but I was really limping along. I’ve been icing, using the ankle brace, NSAIDs but it’s incredibly stiff in the mornings. I’m starting to think it’s a tendon or ligament that’s troublesome just because of the location of the discomfort - I definitely over-pronate and have been really trying to work more on foot strike. This is the thanks I get! Will do some cross training at the gym this week and hopefully that will give it some relief while maintaining some level of fitness. Running three out of four days probably wasn’t the best idea but I felt pretty good until yesterday.

@abasket - D and I are planning a 5K on August 15. The “America’s Finest City” 5K, part of the Half-Marathon weekend.

@sabaray - sorry about your ankle - injuries are such a bummer, especially when you’re not sure of the best way to fix them! I notice with my hip/groin tendon that it is still sore sometimes, but it doesn’t seem to be related to how much I run now - its more that it gets stiff when I sit around & feels better after stretching it out. Ankles may be different since they take so much impact.

Blankmind - Marathon - date???
Gertrude - 5K - August 15

If BB does not keel over from her hot weather training, she’ll attempt a Labor day marathon!

BunsenBurner - Marathon - Labor Day weekend!

Mine isn’t until Feb 14. I feel like I need to build in extra time for all the things that tend to happen with higher mileage.

Thanks for putting the list together, abasket!

Sabaray, I think that ankle says “get me checked out.” Tendinitis sucks, but it should go away with rest etc. Fingers crossed!

MOfWC, yes, 2 weeks of inactivity can be quite a setback :frowning: I start to feel like a rusty old wheel that does not want to turn when I don’t do a certain activity for a while.

I’m liking the list, too, even if I’m not adding to it right now. Strength workout for me today.

Sabaray, MOWC, Gertrude – thinking of you ladies. Wishing you full healing, rapid recovery.

Thanks. Sabaray- I hope your ankle isn’t anything major!

I have the Thunder Road Half Marathon in Charlotte on November 14 and Middle Half Marathon on October 10. I’m sure I’ll do some other races, but those two are actually paid for!

Doing the Marine Corps Marathon October 25th.

Left the office to go to the gym and realized I didn’t have a shirt in my bag, so headed for home and got in a pup walk. It is hot!

Thanks for the good thoughts. I’m pretty sure it’s just tendinitis - if it’s not improved in a few days with no running off to the doc I’ll go. It will take that long to get an appointment anyway.

Adding to the list created by abasket!

Yay!!

And thanks to BB, it’s in date order!!! This will encourage me to sign up for something myself - might be more towards fall though…

No racing for me, but I’m an awesome cheerleader!

Walked 18 holes of golf yesterday – interesting combo of fog, high humidity, sun, and a few stray showers. BUT, my game was better than the past few rounds, so I was happy.

Ran 4.75 miles outside early this morning – overcast but very humid. I was a dripping mess at the end.

Great news - the low cal Oreo! I’ll only gain an additional 3 lbs now vs 5 lbs.

^^^These might actually make it. Will have to try one in person to see the balance of the outer cookie to the inner creme ratio. They shouldn’t mess with the creme, but I can favor a thinner outer cookie.

I’m probably the only person on the planet who can walk past a plate of Oreos and not even look at them. A slice of crusty bread with salty butter is a different story though…

Did some weights last night. The heat is still relentless during the day, but it gets cooler (down to mid-sixties) at nights. Yay!

I have a HUGE sweet tooth, but the taste of Oreos just doesn’t appeal to me.

I had Pilates this morning, lots of footwork which really alleviated the ankle discomfort.

The humidity here is still brutal - supposed to get really hot during the day. Nothing like a ready-made sauna!

I’ve never been a huge Oreos fan - Pepperidge Farm cookies are another story. Those are too easy to eat too many of. I’m with BB…good bread and butter for the win!
