Or try Stinson Trail.
My eating has been pretty clean and have been working hard on portion control and getting back to regular walks. Have lost 9.2 lbs. So close to 10!
Leave for a vacation to San Francisco, wine country and a wedding on Sunday. Will try to get more hiking in but wine tastings and eating out every meal will be challenging.
NMinn, I think a light up accessory is in order!

(you can tell I’m still thinking of that lulu skirt)
Congrats on the 9.2 NM!!! If you can manage .3 more of a pound we can round it off to 10!!!
Have my doc appt today that I made last month. Haven’t been to a regular doc for years and have had no testing beyond GYN yearly and bone density for years. Wish me luck in admitting my faults…
Good luck abasket! So glad that you are following through with the doctor appointment. You seem to be doing all the right things so I hope that it’s a good appointment.
BB- have you had iron deficiency in the past? I hope the iron pills take care of the anemia.
Yesterday’s 5.2 mile run went better than Monday’s run even though it was still very hot and humid. Windy too!
Is iDad missing??? YooHoo!!!
Calling iDad!
Good luck, abasket!
Bunsen- that’s interesting. Have you felt tired at all? Sounds like your training is going well, so I’m surprised. I have a young (fast) runner friend who struggles with iron deficiency. If you want, I can ask her what she uses.
3 miles this morning. I leave for a driving trip mid-day today up through Virginia. Stay tuned for reports of a fantastic CC meet up with a prominent member of this thread!
NMinn- congrats on the good weight loss. I bet you will at least maintain in California. You will be active.
I have been eating a restricted carbohydrate diet since 4/9/15 after I got some horrible lab work back. I haven’t so much as had a cracker in that time and have lost close to 20 lbs. Well, last night at our lake house someone opened up a bag of Bugles, my all time favorite “snack.” OMG, I probably ate 1/2 a bag-it was almost the feeling of how I’d think a drug addict would take one hit and then go crazy with it. I finally had to dump it in the sink or I would have eaten the whole bag.
In the middle of the night, I woke up so NAUSEATED. I don’t know if it was the carbs, the chemicals and preservatives, or what, but I felt so awful. I’m the kind who will do anything to avoid throwing up, but I wish I had so I’d feel better.
Still don’t feel too hot this morning. Hopefully I have learned what eating junk after 3 months of eating clean does to my system and it won’t tempt me again.
Yuck…
4 tedious treadmill miles, but they’re done. Ankle feels much better when I’m not pounding the pavement.
Hmmm, I’m also meeting up with a CC celebrity tomorrow. Wonder if there’s any connection?
iDad must still be on a long strange trip.
A sabaray and MOWC gathering! How fun is that! Enjoy your time together!
OMG, how TOTALLY jealous!!! This is when I know we need to be able to post selfie photos here!!!
Have fun girls!!!
Nrdsb, I had a similar experience with potato chips recently. Went to a meeting where there were boxed lunches of chips and sandwiches provided. I threw out the bread, but somehow ended up eating the chips, one by one (I would have not opened the package, but they were homemade style chips packaged in brown baggies instead of Mylar pouches). Man, I felt horrible afterwards! Bloated, nauseous, yuck!
I need advice on plantar fasciitis. I’m a long-time reader of this and many threads. My youngest is going to start college next month. I’ve been walking 4 miles daily for years on a treadmill. I hurt my back over 20 years ago and can’t walk on hills. The flat walking keeps my back from hurting. But I woke up 6 days ago with a very painful left heel. I went too long without getting new shoes, so now I’m really suffering. Any suggestions other than stretching and ice? It’s difficult for me to even walk around the house. I need my daily walks.
NMinn - yay!! Party time coming up! Great job.
MOfWC, the funny thing is that I feel OK. A little light headed periodically, but otherwise fine. No racing heart, no desire to eat chalk, etc. Maybe I just learned to live with whatever heme iron I have. I’ve had anemia as a kid, as I recall, and have always tested at the lowest end of the acceptable range in the recent past, but this is the first time my doc got concerned. I’ll appreciate all suggestions and ideas.
Glad you decided to post @ludar16.
I don’t have any experience with plantar fasciltis. You might see a doc to get a firm diagnosis. Replacing shoes as needed is REALLY necessary though many do not want to do this. (they still look good on the outside, so they must be ok on the inside, right?!)
I’m sure some others will have better advice to you. Sounds pretty painful.
If you want to take vitamin C to enhance the absorption of the iron, have you considered getting a chewable vitamin C supplement? That should have almost no sugar, or maybe even none.
Chew the vit C and take the iron with a glass of water, I think that would be the same as orange juice or emergenC, but without the sugar.
My husband and a few other folks we know have been very happy with Hokas for helping plantar fasciitis. It pretty much eliminated my husband’s pain.
My wife used a Strassburg sock:
http://www.amazon.com/Strassburg-Sock-Regular-Size-Around/dp/B00JB2UDTQ
Hers did not resolve quickly, though - it was several months. So it’s hard to say whether it resolved on its own, or if the sock helped. She did have less pain in the morning when using the sock though.
@luder16 - I am new to this thread, I am coming from the middle age weigh gain thread! I suffered from plantar fasciitis a few years ago. It took a many months to get better. Here are a few things that I did:
- Stretching exercises on calves - dropping heals while standing on edge of a step, or pulling toes up, anything to stretch the calf.
- Ice arches of foot - I kept a small water bottle in the freezer. I would roll the the bottle back and forth under my foot. It hurts a lot at first.
- Wear shoes with arches. I wear Teva sandles, even indoors. Or I wear Dansko clogs. They take some getting used to . I also used Superfeet inserts in my sneakers. They come in different colors depending on the height of the arch. I found the hot pink ones to be best. They can be trimmed to fit in your sneakers. Again, it took a while to get used to them. I could only wear arches a few hours a day. Now, I can never go barefoot, except on a sandy beach.
- I bought this boot called a "night splint". It kept my foot in the right position to keep the foot tendon stretched. I assume your first steps in the morning are quite painful. This helps a little, though I couldn't wear it an entire night. Before I would take my first steps, I would stretch the calf by pulling up on the toes.
I hope this helps.
Great to see the newbies here! And offering advice! See, most often we all have stuff to contribute!
