Nice Pilates session this morning - it is such a tough workout but I really enjoy it. Going to try a short run later today. I am feeling really frustrated. MRI is scheduled but my overactive imagination is already expecting the worst.
abasket, I need you to come over to help at my house!
I must have populated my cookies well while googling that 500k race, so after I bought my gels, Amazon’s “you might be interested in” suggestion came up:
I’m here just to dip my toe in the water and say that it’s time for me to commit to a healthier lifestyle. Of course, I’m going on vacation next week - which will involve a mix of walking on the beach and eating- hopefully in equal parts. I’m going to be aware of what I’m eating, but refuse to stress about it on vacation. Once I return, I’m all in.
Hang tough Sabaray. You are in great physical shape - minus the injury. You may need some time, but thank goodness you have also branched out and found enjoyment in some other fitness outlets besides running IF you need to lay low on the running for a bit. Let us know how things progress.
Welcome Tired! I think the first thing you should do is change your name! How about “Moving Already!!”
Have a great vacation - changing your eating habits slowly shouldn’t be stressful - enjoy vacation but also see it as a first step in changing habits - the increased walking, some smaller portions while still enjoying the yummy vacation food. You mentioned on the other thread starting to track your food - thumbs up to this!
Just a quick welcome to all the folks from the “middle age weight gain thread.”
The majority of folks here started out with a weight issue and continue battling it. My recommendation is to lurk, follow along and ask questions. This is a SAFE place and no one casts a judgemental eye on anyone’s journey.
I joined 4 years ago and by following many of “Interested Dad”'s posts on diet and excercise it helped me go from 180 to 137 lbs. I encourage you to search his posts on this thread if you are interested in making a lifestyle change.
So I decided not to compete in the Senior Olympics this past weekend. Head/mind wasn’t into it. I’ve decided to re-dedicate and retool myself to make a run at winning this thing in 2 years when I will be in the 60 year old age group.
Until then it starts with training with a purpose. I’m going to incorporate some new things into my schedule—more strength training, more cross training with swimming/biking/rowing, more long distance runs, faster tempo runs etc. plus I’m going to rest more when I feel my body needs it and quit being stupid!
I’ve signed up for a Cleveland Super Sprint Triathlon in 2 weeks for something fun and different. 400 meter swim/10k bike/2.5 k run. I think an age group medal is definitely within reach based on last year’s times.
Welcome to our newcomers! Stick with us and we’ll get you where you want to be!
Ohio- some of my friends from here competed in the Senior Olympics and won some medals. It looked like a great meet. There were some travel issues coming home and they spent last night at Midway airport!
Only had time for 2 miles this morning. I needed the rest and didn’t get up in time for more. Maybe after work…
Hi newbies! I’m still one myself really. A lot of us here seemed to start an exercise program with the Couch 2 5K program & some are in the middle of it now. I started it in March of this year & ran my first 5K 9 weeks later, now I’m hooked! Never, ever ran before that - I was an avowed running hater!
Big, big rant! Got not so great news from my doc today: blood test shows iron deficiency anemia. Doc says I have to get iron pills to see if this fixes the problem. Bwaaaa! I don’t want to take an iron pill on an empty stomach with OJ. Talk about sugar jolt. Suggestions of fast-dissolving Vit C powder with zero sugar or artificial sweeteners are greatly appreciated.
If you find a zero sugar/no sweeteners, I want to know too! I take Emergen-C - 6 grams of sugar compared to 24 grams in OJ. Not exactly what you’re looking for, but readily available.
Alright there are Hoka experts on here- are any hokas that would be good for hiking in forest/mountain terrain? D1 needs new hiking shoes and is considering them. H and I have stinsons trail but never tried them on trails. D2 has challenger from REI but only used on light trails.
Are there any special concerns about the terrain? Any slippery surfaces, rock, etc.? I have hikes successfully in my pavement running Hokas (Huakas and Bondis), but those were small (5 miles and under), not so strenuous hikes. I loved the feel of walking in my Hokas. Trail running Hokas should be OK for hikes, IMO. She will have to watch the tread and replace the shoes when they get too worn.
