I love Stinson Lite. I think the sole wear is better on Stinson than some of the others.
Let me try again - for some reason this didn’t post earlier. REI has some limited sizes and colors of Moving Comfort sports bras if any of the ladies like those. Might be worth checking as there are some big discounts.
Went to a really fun TRX class last night - really kept us moving. I forgot how much I liked planks!
sabaray, CC was misbehaving again an hour or so ago. I tried to post stuff and it all disappeared.
Decided against sunrise yoga and went to an 8 am class (Mellow yoga). I often get really anxious when I go to a new class and always assume that I won’t be able to do anything. As it turned out, this class was great and the instructor gave all kinds of modifications (which I didn’t need to do–I NEVER thought I’d be able to say this).
That’s terrific, Bromfield. It’s always a nice surprise when that happens! This was my first time in this TRX class and I was worried I wouldn’t be able to get through it but happily that was not the case. She offered multiple variations on the exercises, so you could choose what worked best for you given your level. That’s my kind of group fitness.
Was finally able to manage a nice walk with the dogs this morning, hoping to get to the gym tonight for some cardio activity of some sort.
The good news is the two doses of Naproxen has mostly taken away the hip pain
Didn’t walk/jog last night or this morning. Probably will tonight after it cools down (is now 97 degrees and sunny hot). Sticking well to the 1400 calorie diet. Making a fruit salad for book club tonight and will eat a light late lunch before I go…
Ran into two people I have not seen for a long time (both at the grocery store when I was buying fruit), and both said I looked really good/healthy. That was nice to hear!
My exercise today consisted of 2 walks, about 3 miles total. I’ll add weights later today!
So cool to hear of everyone’s experiences with new classes!
SOSConcern, that’s good to hear that you can ease the pain. Just a thought - have you tried sleeping with a body pillow so your weight is supported by the pillow and not pressing on the hip/shoulder?

Walked 18 holes of golf this morning. VERY hot and humid. This was Day 1 of a Tournament – it’s supposed to be even hotter tomorrow, so my partner and I are using a (riding) cart. I couldn’t drink enough ice tea fast enough when we finished. Oh, and my golf game was better than last week, so that’s a bonus!
Yes I do use a pillow - lay on my right side almost exclusively; have a comfort foam topper on our bed (when we added that, H said he noticed a big difference), use a pillow at my side for many years where my left arm drapes and have my knees apart - comfortable for my whole body. The problem is my left hip and my left shoulder (radiation was on my left side and mid-chest) - I can work out my shoulder issues, but the hip has been aching on and off. The problem is in part that when I lay on our couch to watch TV, I am on my back or a bit on that left side. I avoid laying this way as much as I can (sit in recliner or on another section of couch using the right side).
Cooling down to 83, so I will go out walk/jog soon. Feeling good getting healthier. Will also have more life once DD returns to college in a few weeks - then only have to feed H, who also wants to lose weight. Fingers crossed that DDe gets the summer internship (summer 2016) that she interviewed for last week in her field (civil eng). Growing company with excellent opportunities for her.
3.2 hot, humid miles before work. I can now wear a contact lens in my surgery eye, so that’s better for running than the glasses.
I just got an email for a new Women’s Half here in Nashville in November. It’s part of a series called Zooma. It’ looked interesting, but is a week before my Charlotte race. I still would have considered doing it as a training run, but it is $100! That sort of burns me. I will do that occasionally for a race that is important to me, but for a “normal” half marathon… There are too many other options.
Yay to contacts, MOfWC!
Poked my head out of the hotel room and decided that running on the sqeaky treadmill in the puny exercise room was a better option than crawling on cement filled with pedestrians - under scorching sun! When I started my run, a guy was walking on the other treadmill. He hopped off to take a call and disappeared for half an hour. He came back and saw me - still running! - and his jaw dropped.
I calmly informed him that I had 8 miles to run, and it was too hot and crowded to do it outside.
Way to go, Bunsen! It sill sounds like a torture run to do 8 miles on a hotel treadmill!
Glad to report that I walk/jogged last night after it got cooler (it was still 83 degrees when I began and 81 when I finished). I can make this a habit
Took my Naproxen this morning. Glad to report just an occasional tiny ache from the left hip.
In some ways, I wanted to keep from regular use of Ibuprofen type drugs until I was much older. But maybe the occasional use now will help me get to a so much better fitness level.
I have too much excess weight to ever consider jogging/running 8 miles, let alone on a treadmill. H who is only about 15 lb over his goal can at best do 4 miles before his joints bother him.
I know some people can do much more and much older - I am just not one of them, and neither is H.
The longest I ever ran on a hotel treadmill was… 15 miles. I do NOT recommend this to my worst enemies. At least this treadmill was a hardly used Precor, and I got to hear CNBC talking heads squawk about Twitter’s missed earnings and Brady’s 4-game suspension.
My knees bother me too much to run anymore, and I’ve never been seriously overweight.
But I have loved cycling the past 11 months, because I can get the same intensity without all the pounding.
Rode an hour today and felt like I might have had another personal best, but dang it, when I pushed my program start, I must not have pushed it hard enough because it didn’t record a freaking thing. Kind of annoyed at myself for that.
Oh well, got some great exercise and some nice endorphins.
Nrdsb, my hubby’s knees were not made for running either. I bet some of it is just genetic. Mr. B has been enjoying biking for cardio - we usually go to the park together and take off at the same time - I run in one direction, and he bikes in the other, then we turn around and meet in the same spot.
The nice thing about this thread, SOS, is that there is no competition here to do more or be better or faster than each other. I know Bunsen and MOWC could kick my butt up one side and down the other, but they’ve been nothing but encouraging and supportive (as have many others, including abasket, our biggest cheerleader). Your posts are really bringing things into perspective for me and I appreciate what you’ve shared.
Pilates training session today - I am working up to doing pikes on the chair which is incredibly challenging. Every week I go and we do something different - often similar moves but even the slightest changes in positioning make the exercise that much more difficult. I was complaining that I am suddenly finding new weight in my mid-section and my very diplomatic instructor reminded me of the importance of diet in a fitness/wellness regime. Good thing I like her so much!
I’m back from vacation and ready to get serious about weight loss. Sadly, I think if I stayed on vacation it would be a breeze. A week of walking on the beach and playing in the ocean took off a few pounds. I was still eating, but it was sea food prepared healthy ways. Now I am back to spending the better part of 8 hours a day sitting at my desk and eating what I can prepare quickly when I get home. Unfortunately, no one is going to pay me to play in the ocean…so here we go. I’m going to start journaling and stick with my usual walking until my daughter leaves for school. Until then, I will look for ways to increase my activity and be aware of what is going into my mouth - I already know there is too much snacking at my desk. It will be a process, but I am committed. Those extra pounds really scared me!
Once she is gone, I will get back to they gym and hopefully find a class that suits me.
Welcome back Tired!!!
So, you DID find the key to losing some weight and feeling good about it - now, you need to take those things - the additional exercise that you enjoyed, healthier food and MAYBE extra sleep - and find ways to incorporate them into your at-home routine. They really are do-able - I know you can figure it out, one at a time!
Snacking at the desk - I’ll bet a lot of us have trouble with that. What are your current snacks??? I have a bag of bing cherries at my desk right now - counted them out this morning, 12. Enough to satisfy me. But my cubicle neighbor I notice brings things in MUCH larger quantity - and her weight sadly shows it. I may bring in a snack sized ziploc bag of trail mix - she brings in a gallon bag (no kidding!) and eats out of it all day. NO CAN DO!!!
I’m sure we can come up with some desk friendly snacks if you want them. Maybe choose ONE thing to start working on before your D leaves for school - to keep up your effort from vacation - perhaps portion control? An extra 15 minute walk daily? Something!!!
Good to “see” you, Tired! Sounds like a great vacation.
sabaray- You really did great with your marathon and training and are faster than me! I have accepted the limitations of my age and current medication, which is a huge step for me since in the past I would have sulked about not being as fast as I think I should be. As we say in the running world, “The older I get, the faster I was!” I’m grateful to be able to still run and push myself and test my limits.
Sounds like a good pilates class and teacher!
