Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Walked home from the gym (2 mi) after spending 40 minutes on the Cybex arc machine.

HIMom- I like Zensah and Pro Compression.

I visited the lulu store today to look for a new running bra. My Moving Comfort are ok for shorter runs, but I’m having chafing issues on the longer runs, so I want to try another brand. I bought this:
http://shop.lululemon.com/products/clothes-accessories/bras-medium-support/Ta-Ta-Tamer-II-31110?cc=18357&skuId=3593789&catId=bras-medium-support
and this:
http://shop.lululemon.com/products/clothes-accessories/skirts-and-dresses-skirts/Pace-Rival-Skirt-II-Regular-Four-Way?cc=20254&skuId=3635444&catId=skirts-and-dresses-skirts

I confess, the second item was completely gratuitous.

I have several of those skirts and really like them. I want the cranberry/mini ziggy one but am trying to restrain myself. Did you get the butterfly print?

Went to the gym this afternoon and spent some time with my friend the elliptical. Better than nothing!

Love, love, love the cranberry/mini ziggy one!!!

Sounds like a fun Lulu trip!

Oh such cute stuff! TaTa bras are awesome.

Yes Sabaray, I got the butterfly print. It’s so cute! They only had one left and it was my size so obviously it was meant for me. They only had one Ta Ta bra in my size too. It was my lucky day.

Yay to the lucky day!!!

My day was lucky, too. The pilot landed our plane perfectly - without flaps. It was only a 737, but still…

Walked 3 miles and found a trail to run on. Yay.

Sounds like you had a bit of a scary landing Bunsen. Very glad it turned out ok!

I got one of the TaTa tamers and so far, so good, but I mainly wear it for yoga and Pilates. I also have one of the Nike Pro “Rival” bras that has done really well on longer runs. I’m sure you know this, blankmind, but BodyGlide will save you a lot of pain from chafing!

Glad you are safe, Bunsen.

4.1 miles on another cool Poconos morning. Heading into Philadelphia later today for the wedding between the two bridezillas. H and WildChild are on a bike ride and daughter is taking a rest day before her 100 minute run scheduled for tomorrow. She swam over a mile in the lake yesterday, fortunately before my BIL started talking about snapping turtles.

Wow, BB, that must have been a tense moment. Glad you’re ok.

MOWC, snapping turtles??? Lol, now that’s an incentive to up your pace!

Started training another new client a week or so ago who has Parkinson’s, orthostatic hypotension and afib. It’s a real challenge but very gratifying because of his “can do/will do” attitude. My existing training has exposed me to concepts and techniques of working with clients who have chronic diseases but given my target client population of 40 and up, I’m starting to think about getting an additional certification as a medical exercise specialist. Surrounded as I am in my own personal circles by people over 40 who have been athletes all their lives, it’s easy to lose awareness that for so many, fitness goals are a new thing and that chronic diseases can present huge challenges to achieving those goals.

On another note, I’m continuing to explore different modalities of body weight training. I’ve put off the rings curriculum until the spring because I really need to do it outside due to inside ceiling height limitations. As we go into the fall, daylight conditions will preclude outdoor training during the week. So instead, I’m playing around with paralette training (miniature parallel bars used for movement based gymnastic like training) that I can do inside. So far, lots of fun but tough. I’ll probably end up with one day of traditional weight lifting and 2 days of parallettes each week plus 3 days of cycling training.

This coming weekend is my “open house” Labor Day BBQ to officially inaugurate my completed outdoor playground/obstacle course. It ought to be a whoot. Lots of mid-20’s fitness fanatics invited by my daughter and some intrepid AARP eligible guests who will no doubt want to show the young’uns a thing or two!

Snapping turtles?! Yikes. And I thought goose poop was the biggest hazard of lake triathlons! Seriously, here in WA Canada geese are a big problem: they decided that migrating back and forth was a hassle and just hang around year round, pooping all over the grassy lakefront lawns and lakes!

It is past noon… Folks are deciding where to go for a hike… I let them make the choice- I just had my mimosa and am chilling in the shade. B-)

Reminder to self. Strength workout.

So I couldn’t stand the thought of doing strength training indoors today and decided to play outside. 4 circuits of monkey bars, up the cargo net, down the opposite side ladder, arm only ladder climb up and down on the underside, chin ups and battle ropes. Jumping jacks with battle ropes are a terror. Finished it all off with hanging L-Sits from the pull up bars. I am a piece of drift wood. I’m really getting entranced by this body weight training stuff.

Awesome hike in the forested mountains near Boulder! 80 degrees, sunny… Just perfect! Saw chipmunks, squirrels, a garter snake (yikes!), and some deer.

Three and a half solo miles this morning. No beautiful vistas or wildlife to report.

I have come up with the following 4 classifications of how runners acknowledge other runners on the bike/run path today:

  • nothing (usually into themselves, oblivious or running snobs!)
  • a wave of the hand
  • pointing a finger
  • a nod of the head

Great observation, ohio! I’ll add another one;

  • saying something encouraging, like, "Good pace! Keep it up!" :)

This is what a man in an Ironman tee told me this morning. I actually did quite well keeping about 8:30 pace for 8 miles here at a higher than my usual altitude.

I personally like the folks who wave with a big smile, as if they are actually enjoy this running stuff. Definitely perks up my run.
