So at work, we have a lot of wellness programs going on. For completing one of these, I won a session with a personal trainer, which I had this past Wednesday. I told her I had a running schedule I wanted to stick to & asked that we not do anything that would disrupt that. Well, I was so sore the next day that I had to cancel that day’s run and also cut short my long run yesterday. I think it was the “burpees” that did it. We did way too many for a beginner like me.
Only 4.4 miles for me this morning, just following my plan. I was supposed to do 4, but I miscalculated the out, and I get too restless walking, so I ran the extra .4.
10.2 on the Schuylkill River Trail after gay wedding festivities last night. WildChild, my daughter and I started together. He was out of sight in a minute, even though he’s out of shape. I kept D in sight most of the way. She had some time/pace goals from her coach.
All in all, a good run.
More yoga for me. I did a vinyasa class on Sat. and opted for a Yin yoga class today. A yin yoga practice is one where you hold a specific set of poses (primarily focusing on hips, pelvis, lower spine, and inner thighs) for 4-5 minutes. The aim of Yin is to improve flexibility of joints and connective tissues–something I really need. I could be a model for a class called Yoga for the Inflexible.
Bromfield, I’ll join you in that Yoga for the inflexible class!
Gertrude, it sounds like the trainer really didn’t listen to what you were saying or design your workout very well at all. Causing Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness is hardly a badge of honor for a trainer or a measure of success!
Thanks MNKat - those were my thoughts as well! I was pretty annoyed with her the next day when I could barely walk, let alone run.
Barely walk?! Yikes. Absolutely agree with MNK. Also… not the smartest way to lure in new clients!
Did a 50 mile recovery ride today with 4 members of the Sturdy Girls race team, any one of whom could crush me on the bike. 14.2 mph avg speed… Lesson of the day: going easy is a good thing.
Nice fitness work this weekend folks!
I’m a “wave of the hand” or “nod of the head” runner.
I do really try to make eye contact with each person I pass going the opposite way - annoys me when people don’t even acknowledge others!!
I was listening to a podcast about goals and achieving them. And how your goals are yours and not others. That it’s about pushing yourself to do something out of your comfort zone. At least that’s what I took from it lol!
In that spirit, yesterday I golfed 27 holes. The day before my golfing partner was being a bit of a negative nancy. Telling me how long it was going to be and that the weather was going to be hot. Well I did it, we started at 9 and golfed until 3:30. Only one other woman golfed, both of us with our husbands.
And you know what, it wasn’t that hard. It helped that it was in carts. I didn’t golf great and we didn’t win any prizes. Ok H won closest to the pin on 9 but I didn’t have anything to do with that.
Other than golfing, I’m trying to run 3 miles every other day and walk on the days I don’t run. Usually I’ll run early and golf after dinner. We will miss summer, as I love this.
^^^Amen.
This has popped up on my Twitter newsfeed, retweeted by Summer Sanders:

146 mile month- highest since May. I don’t obsess over monthly mileage since so much depends on how many Saturday’s there are and when my longer runs fall, but this was a good month.
4.1 on the W&OD trail in Alexandria, VA with my daughter this morning. We were both tired from the 10 miler yesterday, but wanted to enjoy the trail. Home tonight
hoka story-went to my orthopedic doc today to check my wrist cast (another story). he was wearing hokas and commented on mine I was wearing. he is in his 60s very fit looking-he said once he discovered them for a foot problem of his he cannot not wear them. has a bunch of them and wears them to work and hiking
(new high tops) and has not been able to find another pair of shoes that are that comfortable.
Back to work today after a difficult weekend. I was able to get my 17 mile long run in yesterday morning and I’m feeling OK today. Sleep deprivation is my biggest problem as I was on a conference call with China until midnight and then had to get up at 4:15am to get my daughter to the airport. I think today is going to be a rest day and I’ll pick back up with the running tomorrow.
I love hearing all the wonderful places that people are running!
I really wish they made Hokas in wide width. They sound wonderful!
Anytime you have a 17 mile long run, shouldn’t the next day be a rest day!!!
I would contact the company and see if they would make a wide sized hoka shoe, or if they do and you are not aware of it.
Back to real hot and real humid here. Not looking forward to my run tonight!!! Temps near 90 all week…
Some Hoka models are much wider than others. For ladies, buying men’s versions can be a good solution (I did it this summer because the heat was making my feet double-wide!).
