And now I feel like my socks were a steal at only $8 a pair!

I think this is the nicest coverup for a Fitbit that I’ve seen. I wish there was something like this for the Polar activity monitor because I’d get it.

Happy Birthday, MOWC! We’re the same age–I was 63 in February.

Walking, yoga, and a training session over the weekend.

Dog we’re going to get is an Australian labradoodle. We had a labradoodle before–he died unexpectedly last year. The one we are getting this time is smaller. She should weigh 20-25 pounds. All the puppies we saw were so cute; it was hard to narrow down our choices. The puppy will be ready for us to take her home on September 23.

The socks are made by Swiftwick. They have both cycling and running specific socks. The company’s website is very informative about the products and technology involved.

That’s gorgeous, Bromfield.

Swiftwick is a local company and very highly regarded.

I got new shoes also, Brooks Ghosts, am happy with them so far. Out LRS has a new fancy machine, took an image of my feet. I tried on a bunch of shoes but the ghosts felt the best. I put my old inserts in my new shoes but i might get new inserts the next time I’m there.

I am partial to feetures socks. My D asked for running socks for her birthday lol!

D is right now running a half. She felt positive about her training so I’m hoping it’s going well.

Bromfield, good for Tory! I wonder when Kate Spade etc. will follow! With all Fitbits out there you would think fashion designers would jump on the wagon like they did with iPad and iPhone covers etc.!

Good luck to your daughter, deb!!

Michael, thank you! Will look them up. I’d rather spend money on good socks than walk toenail-less all summer!

D met her goal and is very happy. I am a very proud mama!

Yay, deb!! Congrats to her.

Just ordered a bunch of Swiftwick socks from Amazon! Will post a review in a few days when I get back to running. The Amazon buyers were raving about their purchases. Toes crossed!

Meanwhile, I “discovered” a nice hill in my own 'hood! Our long private drive has about 5-6% incline and is perfectly situated for running modest hill circuits!

5 miles. It’s just too hot for me.

Congrats to your daughter, Deb!

Beautiful fall morning. Despite almost 40 years of running, I don’t know how to dress for season changes each year! It was 48 degrees when we woke up after being in the 90s 3 days ago. I was FREEZING! Leaves are starting to fall and the running path was beautiful. I wore a Nuu-Muu dress with capris and a long sleeved shirt over it and I was fine. Others were out in singlets and shorts and some in jackets. 8 miles done (planned 7.4 to get a 30 mile week, but 7.4 didn’t quite seem like a “long” run). Streak is at 71 days.

Congrats to all the racers, walkers, bikers, etc. this weekend !

A good reminder MOWC to get out of my neighborhood and into our Metroparks for some runs this next month or so - the trees are gorgeous and the air feels great!

I’m going to admit I have never bought special socks or inserts for my shoes. I mean, I have a kind of sock I like - actually kind of thinner…I don’t have any feet problems - should I be looking for something different? You know me, I’m only running 3-4ish mile runs most days.

And the inserts - are they for pronation? Padding? Arch support? Am I missing out on something? No one has ever recommended this to me at the running store.

Socks make a huge difference! I love Balega. I also have a fair amount of the Champion “Premium” socks they sell at Target but I wear those for shorter runs or the gym.

Took a terrific Pilates/TRX combo class this morning. Challenging with TRX supersets - really got a great workout.

Ran my 5K in 31:50 this morning. The first 2 miles were glorious and really fun, then we hit the unshaded part & the last mile was a miserable sweaty slog. After getting home & eating, I went face-down unconscious for about 2 hours.

I love all my new footwear! Abasket - at the running store I went to, they have a whole system of 3-D imaging your feet & creating custom-molded insoles for each foot with appropriate arch support, along with coming up with some recommended brands/styles of shoes. This was new to me, but seemed like an important part of the process. They moved the insoles from shoe to shoe as I tried on different styles.

Cool - it’s possible ours have that - I haven’t been in an been “waited on” in awhile…

Very nice job, Gertrude! Congrats!

I don’t think special insoles are a necessity. I like the SuperFeet in some shoes that might not have as good forefoot cushioning. I am a forefoot lander. I generally do OK with the insoles that come in the shoes, with the exception of some like the Hokas (not all models, but some) that are just cheap and thin. I am not a believer in over the counter replacement insoles really correcting pronation etc- in fact, I am no longer a believer that it needs to be corrected!

I like thinner socks in the summer- the thin Wright socks still have 2 layers and are awesome. Balega still seems to be the best for me. I am not blister prone and get my running shoes (except for some Hokas that run long) a full size bigger than my street shoes.

Anyone ever had an insect bite by a joint that ended up affecting? H actually knew what was going on. I thought maybe I strained something on Friday (woke up with sore ankle and limping with walk) but it was a weird spot (outer ankle). Two days later saw the marks and showed H. He runs in a ‘buggy’ area on a green-way between lots of trees and near a stream. Iced the spot so hoping to get a run in tonight.

Thanks for Oofos recommendation - will look to buy when I am ready to splurge on myself!

Congrats on a great race, Gertrude!

I think socks can make a difference. Before I started running, I wore thin, cheap socks – the type you get 6 to a bag in Target. When I started wearing padded socks, my feet hurt less. I wear Thorlos.

I’m prone to getting blisters between my toes. I have narrow feet, but when I walk/run a long distance, I need a wide toe box. When I remember to put lotion between my toes before I put on socks and shoes, that helps.

I did yoga this morning. Yesterday was an interesting day - after my 4-mile run, I convinced my husband to come out with me for some high intensity interval work. He needs to get in better shape for a spring hiking trip we hope to do. He did one interval set, and was ready to drop. Eventually he did 6 sets (slow pace for 30 seconds, brisker for 20 seconds and all out for 10 seconds) – but it really knocked him out. I think this was a wakeup call that being a great athlete 50 years ago does not last forever.

Fireandrain, I too used to get blisters between my toes. So annoying. I finally tried the packets of Lanacane I got in my goodie bag at one of the expos. Oh my! What a difference it made. Unlike lotions, it does not get absorbed and stays on the skin surface even when the shoes are wet from sweat.

Also, Injinji toe socks help. Even though my feet were soaking wet by the end of my last marathon, I only got one major blister. That was my proudest moment, lol.

Yay, Gertrude! That is an awesome time for a beginner runner recovering from hip pain. Great job.
