Sabaray, thank you for mentioning that race! No, I have not ran it but I heard a ton of positive reviews. The last two years, I missed out because I waited a tad too long. It sells out very quickly, so jump on! It should be a gorgeous run. Vancouver is a cool city. I’m going to sign up if I can!

Great workout with my trainer today. Lots of core work.

@abasket: great that your numbers were good. Hope you can figure out the best treatment for your osteoporosis.

I am super tempted. Looks like they are planning on 10,017 runners - the 17 is for 17 years of Lulu. Who knows? Maybe I’ll be lucky 17!

Go for it, sabaray! It will make a great vacation. August is a great time to visit PNW. And the race packet will include your choice of shorts!

I guarantee they will not be black.

abasket, have you run your fracture risk score? https://riskcalculator.fore.org/

My lowest bone scan was -3.5. I’m now at -3.2. My other two scores are now -2.4; they had been -2.9 and -2.6, so I’m pretty bad, too. Yet my doc is OK with my not being on drugs. Your age is an important factor in the decision. I’m in my mid-to-late 50s – she feels it’s too young to take the drugs. She’d rather wait until I’m older.

The bottom line is that she feels my risk of fracturing is small, despite my horrible numbers, that I don’t need to medicate yet. I’ve had some bad falls in the last 5 years, and nothing broke.

Most of my info came from the National Osteoporosis Foundation website MoWC linked to.

I have fallen a bunch, too, and haven’t broken anything except ribs last August. I did have the stress fracture last summer in my hip, but runners can get those even without bone density issues. What my orthopedist said when he read me the riot act about ignoring the osteoporosis (well, not ignoring it- but refusing to take the meds) was that with my amount of running and activity that I WILL break, and that I needed to go on the Forteo. I had to agree with him- even though the Forteo has risks, too. Indications are that it has improved my bone density in the year plus I have taken it this time around (had about 6 months of it in 2007 when I decided I didn’t need it…).

Thanks again for the additional info. I will run that risk calculator just for kicks when I get home - I can’t remember my neck t-score except to know that it was normal - it was just my spine.

I’ll be 56 this weekend - spring chicken, right?!

Planning on a strength workout today.

Happy birthdays!

For those that doubt the benefits of body weight training, this guy is my new hero. (Caution, if you are offended by elderly men in speedo’s, avert your eyes lol!)

MNK, CC bleeped out the URL. Is it Facebook?

Yes it is!

Thanks! Ok, diving in to see buff old dudes in Speedos.

Almost anything would be better than the old guy in a Speedo I saw at our beach on Saturday. Seriously, someone needs to have a chat with him …

18 holes of golf, walking today. It was a pretty stellar day on the course, weather wise – plus my partner and I won today’s competition! Yay!!! I’m building up credits in the Pro Shop – I hope to have enough by the end of the season to pay for a nifty electronic gadget that will tell me how far away from the pin I am.

I wore speedos until our kids were old enough to react with “ew” lol. Never wore them as a fashion statement but because they were functional swim suits and I was an avid swimmer and competitive springboard and platform diver. I keep threatening to return to wearing them and my now adult kids react no differently than they did 20 years ago. If you look at the video I tried to link to ( which can also be seen on my Odyssey Strength and Fitness Studio Facebook page), given what that 73 year old is capable of doing, he can wear whatever the hell he wants :).

Ahh- I just went to the facebook page. He is incredible- even with the Speedo! In Dallas back in the 80s there were some triathletes who wore them not just to swim or in triathlons, but to do training runs. That was a little much, even for people like me who were used to that “look” from tris and swimming.

MNK, lol! I have a swimmer kid. I have seen it all while waiting for her practices to be over. Teen boys on her team ran a contest of who could squeeze into the smallest size Speedo possible! BTW, swim jammers provide better coverage and leg muscle compression while reducing water resistance, especially if they are made of some of those super fabrics.

My evening walk to the bus was more akin to hill speedwork! You should have seen me flying up and down those hills with my large rolling bag in tow! Some people drag a tire behind them to add more oomph to their workouts… for me, my work tote suffices!

Ugh…up again before 3 and I now have some upper respiratory sickness going on. Hope it passes quickly.

Did my Zumba class. It is a hard class and I am a sweaty mess at the end but I can’t say I enjoy it. I really think I will stick to walking and weights.

Does anyone know idad in real life? Is there anyone who can check on him and make sure he is ok? Just thinking of other posters who vanished and then we found out they had been seriously ill.

Feel better, NM - sounds like all your travel might be catching up with you. I’m like you - I try different things but always come back to the activities I enjoy the most.

Hit the hill this morning - on the plus side, after three weeks of running it my times are getting better. I’m not quite as pathetic as I was earlier!

idad, hope you can find a few minutes to check in - even if it’s just to say so long. There are quite a few of us concerned about you. We miss you!

I don’t know how to contact him. I wish he would come back.

Has anyone sent him a PM? Looks like he checked in recently.
