Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

@sabaray , I empathize with you about the stresses. And how your fitness routine is like a lifeline that helps you keep things together. Hopefully you’ll get through the year and successfully cope with the stressful situations without eating too many donuts!

PG, way to rack up the flyer miles! That’s unbelieveable! Be safe!

Seeing all the posts about people traveling, I thought I’d just repeat something I’ve mentioned before. If you are concerned about access to strength training, the TRX suspension trainer might be just what you need. Packs smaller than a football and can be mounted and used virtually anywhere. As I’ve posted, I’ve used it attached to hotel room doors, attached to tree limbs, attached to cabanas on a beach, even attached to a spare halyard on a sailboat. Great way to keep a balance with your cardio training if you don’t have access to a gym while meandering in your travels.

I’ve been playing so much golf I don’t have time for daily check-ins here on CC! (Well, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.) Played (& walked) 9 holes Wednesday evening and 18 holes yesterday. Thursday I ran my 4.8 mile beach route. Several dog walks sprinkled throughout.

I’m also not part of the “in crowd” here – I don’t own anything from Lulu. I’m sure that could easily be remedied, but at the moment I don’t need anything. I AM shopping for shoes and clothes for an upcoming 2 week trip to Spain with friends at the end of October. H has determined that for this trip we’ll only do carry-on luggage, even though we’ve never done it before for trips of this length. I don’t overpack, but I will need to be extra coordinated/organized.

Re: apples – my absolute favorites are Macs. When I was growing up in MA I was convinced they were the only type of apple! They’re the best in early Sept – so crisp and juicy!

I am working on increasing my exercise. Last night I did my walk/jog late, but I got it in. Was able to read a little and then actually sleep pretty well. Would have gone to the UA-Ole Miss game today but could not get a ticket (face value is $85 and not wanting to spend more) and don’t want to make the drive and take a chance to not get a ticket (DD is a member of Million Dollar Band) - H and I saw it all last Saturday on a perfect day for SEC football. If I can increase my exercise, will get this weight off - but I am feeling healthier and BP shows I am too.

Gertrude- glad you are pain free and doing well!
C3B- that sounds horrible. Kudos for going over 13!

4.2 by the Charles River- went the right way this time. We walked a lot yesterday. Bike and brew activity this afternoon at this conference. I suspect more brew than bike!

Killed my 7 miles this morning. I was really feeling it between 4 and 5 miles after a long slow uphill slog, then turned downhill & it got so much easier. Wow - I can’t believe I actually covered that much distance. I love the 90sec/30sec ratio - will definitely keep with it!

Sabaray - thanks for being the heart of this thread. I’m so glad I have it to come discuss running & nutrition - there aren’t too many folks in my “real” life who are particularly interested.

Pizzagirl, wow. No wonder you are looking forward to retiring from that kind of thing!

It is drizzling outside. Perfect running weather!

Could not drag out of bed for running this morning, but did get in yoga/Pilates. Huge lunch after but it was fun.

Good job everyone - I love following all the achievements and milestones so many of you are reaching!

8 miles. Cooler weather made my run so much more enjoyable. Liked the new mile markers!

Came home and realized that we were going to a friends birthday party later in the evening, and I forgot about the gift. Mr. said, “How about some running tees from Lulu?” Smart and very practical! Walked out with a reversible puffy vest for myself and a tee for Mr. as well.

We went to Lulu here in Boston! I almost got the reversible vest, but I, um, live in Tennessee and have enough puffy things. I did get that darker print pleated skirt, which I plan to wear for my 8 miler tomorrow morning before we fly home.

I went into Lulu yesterday, when I was wandering around NYC (walked 5+ miles in Manhattan, which was my exercise yesterday). Didn’t see anything. However, I spent much too much money at Athleta in the last month, mostly on sales items. I think I’m more an Athleta than a Lululemon gal.

Today I got my husband out again for some high intensity interval training. He did marginally better than last week. I did about 20 minutes worth (walking, light running, and then all-out running). Thursday was my swimming and weights day.

I love to eat Granny Smith apples. But I love to pick Macintosh. Tonight I made applesauce and used it in an applesauce cake and baked another apple-based cake. For tomorrow’s block party I’m bringing a salad that will have apples in it.

Fireandrain, I’m like you - I and my body seem to prefer Athleta. I think the only lulu things I have are some great headbands. Had some old school shorts and got rid of them . To each his own!

Did some outlet shopping today - my favorite find was a thin down vest from Eddie Bauer .

Got in a 7.2 mile run this morning (sunday). There wasn’t as much traffic so the exhaust fumes weren’t as bad. I’ll have to remember for the future that Sunday mornings might be better for long runs than Saturday mornings.

Pizzagirl-wow, your travel schedule sounds brutal! Congratulations on your upcoming retirement! It sure sounds as if you’ll add years to your life by getting away from that kind of a schedule and pace and be able to concentrate on your own wellness in 2016.

BunsenBurner-I love the idea of a birthday present of running tees. I hope it was a fun party! Grown-ups should have more birthday parties. Who doesn’t love presents and cake?!

It was a fun party! We ate a ton, gossiped a ton… lots of local vino… There was no cake, just some awesome macaroon cookies and ice cream, and the gift was recieved well!

“For tomorrow’s block party I’m bringing a salad that will have apples in it.”

Block party! Sigh. When we just moved in, people on our street used to have these parties. Once in a while, folks would get together and go through the woods with chainsaws clearing the horse riding trails. That was 15 years ago… No sprawl, but the horses are long gong, and so are the street parties. Sigh.

8.1 miles along the Charles River this morning. Very humid and my legs were tired from all the standing and walking, but it went fine. One last good breakfast before we head to the airport. Wore my new Lulu pleated skirt so I looked great at least!

Yeah for looking great!

Celebrating #56 at my D1’s in Columbus. All 3 of my kids +future DIL enjoyed a fun day of shopping yesterday, a campus walk at D2’s uni and an amazing local Italian meal - Brussel sprout pizza was one of the amazing dishes enjoyed family style!

Woke up this Morning to go for a birthday run around this beautiful neighborhood. I LOVE how everyone is so active here - people running and walking like the neighborhood is a park trail! Since I’m not a morning runner by choice I decided to try Gertrude’s Galloway method 90/30. Ninety seconds goes quick but so does the. 30 second walk! 3.5 miles done pretty easily! It was a good solution for my not-so-perky body in the morning! And even with the walking kept my pace under 11 minutes so not bad.

As I stopped running in front of D’s house i saw a red car coming and beeping- H and pup surprised me and drove the 2 1/2 hours down here so our whole family could be together on my bday - I burst into tears! I am not really a fan of birthday celebrations but the best gift of all would be being together- and we are! Off to a park for a nice family hike in a bit!

Happy Birthday abasket! What a neat surprise!
