Aw, that was so nice of you H, abasket. Happy Birthday!

13.11 miles today! After my terrible 11 mile struggle 2 weeks ago, I’m happy to say that this morning’s run went well. I felt really good for about 11 miles, and then started to run out of gas (I’m still working on the fueling thing.) I decided to run/walk for mile 12, and tried to run all of mile 13, but the last hill defeated me, I gave up and walked up part of it.

This is the first time I’ve run this distance without leg and foot cramps. I’ve been playing around with the Generation UCan that idad uses, and it seems to have solved my cramping problem. I thought about idad today as I was drinking my Ucan. I hope he’s ok.

Awwww… What a sweet thing! Happy birthday, abasket!

blankmind, I’m so happy to hear that you had a great run. If you run out of gas around mile 11, maybe you can experiment with eating some gel around mile 9. It usually takes my body 15-20 min to absorb the “fuel,” so this timeline works for me.

Happy Birthday Abasket. Isn’t it nice when they surprise us with simple pleasures?

Bunsen, that timing sounds about right. I was wishing I had brought one more ucan right around that time.

blankmind, MOfWC recommended Huma gels. I love them because they actually taste like a sweet and salty fruit snack and agree with my stomach. I wish I could send you a sample.

Today’s exercise was helping Mr B with exterminating a very nasty, prickly flowering quince bush. We packed a yard waste canful, and there is still a pile left for the next week. I ripped out a large patch of ivy as well.

abasket, sounds like a wonderful birthday celebration that you are most deserving of! So glad you had such a good weekend.

I ate way too much this weekend…really felt it this morning but got in 5.3 miles. Cooler weather seems to have arrived but it didn’t seem any easier!

Happy birthday a basket. Sounds like to had a wonderful celebration!

My wife and I had a birthday celebratory dinner last night with our kids and their spouse/fiancé at a very upscale restaurant. At the end of the meal, they picked up the check. They really do grow up lol.

Did a great 50 mile bike ride yesterday on the back roads of upper Bucks a County Pa and Hunterdon County NJ with a couple of the ladies from the race team I sponsor. Beautiful low traffic roads but a very, very hilly ride. Average speed was 14.9. On the flats, we were in the mid 20’s and at one point decided to chase down some other riders and were like a train on the tracks at 30 mph. On the hills, well it was a whole other story. Probably did about 4000 feet of climbing over the 50 miles and really had to pace my self on the hills for my legs to survive. Last 3 miles was a steady 8 mph climb lol! Quite a contrast to the flats.

Happy Birthday too everyone celebrating recently/soon!

Nice early morning run along my 4.8 mile beach route this morning. It was 54 degrees when I went out – lovely! I wasn’t a dripping sweaty mess when I finished, which was a welcome change. This is some of my favorite weather.

I’ve got a huge pile of fresh tomatoes from our 3 plants. Ideas besides tomato sauce?

I would love some fresh tomatoes! My favorite thing with fresh tomatoes is making gazpacho.

Ran 6.4 miles after work. It was not a good day at work so it felt good to get out and pound out some frustration. Alas, some Chips Ahoy also were involved in reducing frustration. (before flaming me, please remember that food choices are somewhat limited here in China)

Shashuka is a family tradition in our house made with oodles of tomatoes this time of year. Here is a NYT’s recipe that is quite good and I believe in their “top 10 recipes ever” at NYT’s.

Our family version (my mom is from Morocco which is the North Africa connections) is served/used as a topping, dip, etc. We use lots of tomatoes, peppers (a variety), garlic, olive oil and salt - cooked down long and slow on the stove top uncovered till it becomes fairly thick and flavorful. We use it as a dip with tortilla chips, as a topping on scrambled eggs, in sandwiches, etc. It freezes well and we eat it year around! I like to be sure to use a fair amount of hot peppers so that it is SPICY!!!

No flaming allowed here, C3Baker! Life happens.

I’ve been eyeing that dish for some time, abasket. I think I’m going to take the plunge. I also love gazpacho!

The above recipe uses canned tomatoes I think - I would absolutely use fresh tomatoes if they are available. And some banana peppers or something with a LITTLE heat if you like that.

C3Baker- I ate a Dunkin Donut in the Boston airport- for no particular reason other than boredom- so no flaming from me!

3.2 miles this morning. It’s staying dark later in the mornings. Almost headlamp time.

All this talk of donuts reminded me of the most decadent donut I’ve ever eaten in my life. During the 2014 Habitat for Humanity Ride, on the second day, about 40 miles into a 65 mile hilly ride, our route (intentionally by design) took us to a little mom and pop donut place out in the middle of nowhere that was a destination stop for all the locals for miles around. Being a bit of a wiseass, I asked if they had peanut butter donuts. The response: 4 different varieties. I opted for the one filled with peanut butter crème, covered with chocolate and with peanut butter cup pieces on top. All of my discipline, all of my nutritional planning, went by the wayside for 10 minutes of the most delectable sensory overload. I certainly had enough of a sugar and carb fix to get me through the next 25 miles!

Betcha that eating that donut felt much better than “indulging” in a couple of Gu gels.

Gorgeous morning here! Off to my hilly adventures. I have no idea what to expect from my commute tomorrow - the President of China is stopping by for a visit. My oh my! I better wear my hiking shoes, because the entire blocks of our downtown might be off limits. Arrgh.

Happy Birthday abasket! What a wonderful way to celebrate your day! Thanks for the shashuka link–that sounds great.

No flaming from me. My weakness is the package of dark chocolate covered tart dried cherries sitting in my desk drawer. I cannot eat just one

3.1 mile jog on the treadmill yesterday and lots of walking over the weekend. It’s still super hot outside here, so I walked a quick two miles this morning, and be back in the gym later this afternoon.

Wearing my new puffy vest and really loving it!

I made one more Lulu purchase before I left Boston (no sales tax on clothes). It’s a fantastic wrap that is great over my Nuu Muu dresses etc. http://shop.lululemon.com/products/clothes-accessories/women-sweaters-and-wraps/Coast-Wrap?cc=20279&skuId=3633294&catId=women-sweaters-and-wraps

It is really cozy and comfortable. It’s still too warm here for it- or a puffy vest! Soon…
