Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Thanks, MOfWC! Just read it online. Here is what the experts currently recommend:

^^^This SO does not happen in an office, right?! I try to be conscious of getting up but I know people who only get up to walk to the refrigerator to get their lunch. Or to the car to go get lunch!

I think I need to post this on Twitter and tag my workplace!!!

One key thing I did is bring a padded mat (one of those interlocking squares that you put in basement work stations or garages) to stand on. It really helps with fatigue. I find I stand up a LOT- more than I expected. My work station is so easy to move up and down! If someone comes in for a meeting, I put it down so it isn’t in their face.

Haha - I’m picturing an office meeting between two turning into a lecture of one, to one!!!

Good timing on that article - I was starting to lose interest in standing most of the day - I really do concentrate better when I’m sitting. But now I’m re-motivated. And I won’t feel like I have to stand for 4 hours at time like I have been doing. I’ll try to go back & forth more. Luckily we recently moved to a new building where the printer is a bit of a hike - I definitely get up every half hour to grab something off of it.

Morning run – perfect weather. Recently made dinner using a recipe recommended on this thread a while back, and it was a success. Thank you!

MoWC–what a sweet, sweet dog! You are a good person for taking him. H and I were just talking about the WSJ article. He’s going to request a standing desk–says he would use it for his computer work.

I’m taking it easy on my toe, so I’m not running on it for a few days :frowning: Walking only for now.

Went all the way up the hill only to find out that my class was cancelled! Oh well. Dinner of a single scoop vanilla bean Molly Moons and a nice walk down the hill!!

Deb T, I want to know what recipe you made!!!

Yeah for Molly Moons - saved the day, right?!

MOWC, what a great outcome for the new adopted member of your family. What you did is really heart warming. And yes, the regular standing could be effecting your weight for all the reasons others have posted. I did away with my office desk chair and now sit on a stability ball or stand. I can feel the difference now that I’m not sitting in a regular chair. Was recently taking some seminars at my local fitness equipment store where as a registered trainer I get a steep discount. They had a treadmill desk on display. Large desk area, adjustable height, wifi and other tech compatible, all attached to a high quality treadmill. Almost made an impulse buy. Fortunately, I foresaw this risk and left my wallet in my car.

A couple jobs ago I worked in an open office where people used to communicate by phone – two people would be 20 feet apart and yet they’d dial the phone instead of walk. I always got up and talked to my coworkers face to face. Sometimes if someone called me, I would hang up and walk over to them.

18 holes of golf, walking, yesterday. We finished not long before the rains came – and we’ll be socked in for the next few days. Since we really need the rain, it’s all good.

Congrats on the adoption, MOWC!

Nice article about Oiselle. Love that it used real runners as models at NY Fashion Week. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/30/sports/oiselle-womens-athletic-apparel-brand-lines-up-with-yale.html?smprod=nytcore-ipad&smid=nytcore-ipad-share

It was drizzling today so I got on the treadmill. I haven’t gotten around to downloading podcasts/getting audio books yet but I managed a half hour.

We had a deluge yesterday at our end of the state, FallGirl - 98% humidity this morning, but hit the hill and followed up with yoga class. I like the hill because it’s a route where I can see improvement (or lack thereof) easily.

I am eagerly awaiting my Oiselle shorts. I hope they come before it’s too cool to wear them!

42 minute run this morning. I finished at 5:30 am. I’m practically nocturnal.

Last night was an 8.3 mile run. Tonight is running club so I’ll get another 5 miles in. We’re meeting at a brewpub so all calories burned in the run will immediately be replenished - and then some!

MOWC-I love the dog you are getting! Beautiful pictures and a great bio written up about him. He sounds wonderful. I think it is terrific to adopt a senior dog. I follow Susie’s Senior Dogs on Facebook and it just kills me to read about all these senior dogs needing homes. I swear I have almost driven to Texas twice, to Florida, and at least a half a dozen other states after reading about wonderful dogs that need homes. It’s probably a good thing that we can’t add another pet right now or else I would be turning into the crazy dog and cat lady.

blankmind-wow, you really are nocturnal! I am so not a morning person and am in awe of that kind of a run at that hour! Is it safe for you to run so early and in the dark?

Stay dry you East Coast folks, sounds as if you’ll be getting plenty more rain to come.

For the oatmeal eaters here - cooking oatmeal in the rice cooker!!!

Getting to be that time of year when I start subbing in some oatmeal in the morning for my usual eggs/yogurt/cottage cheese/fruit/granola regimen!!!

Nice article about Oiselle, fireandrain. I noticed how athletic yet real their models were when I shopped their site.

Glad you saved Buddy MOWC. Sad that adults divorcing are the reason for Buddy to be w/o a home. It seems the original owners love the dog less than they chose not to stay living together nor finding arrangements for Buddy other than abandoning him. However kudos that they let him live. Has he arrived at your home yet?
