Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Searched and found this from idad’s 4/13/12 post:

Bon appetit and cheers to good times!

Thanks for digging this up! Dry Riesling works well, too.

SOS - There’s a FB page I follow - “Becoming Minimalist” - motivational for a simpler lifestyle. I want to be that person so badly but it’s really hard to get rid of stuff.

This year was kind of a bust for me in terms of meeting goals, but I’m going to give myself a pass. Sometimes life just throws you one of those curveballs. Or two…or three…

Right now I’m pretending to train for a marathon in April. I’m using Strava so I can compare the same running routes over time. It gives me nice tips like “trending faster” when I’m doing well and says nothing at all when I’m not doing so hot! There are also monthly challenges for distance (run a 10k, etc) or climbing challenges.

My goals for Pilates - a smooth up stretch series; improved form in short spine/long spine; and finally, being able to do the teaser really, really well. That might take me well beyond 2016.

Bean cuisine - love it! I got Dr. Weil’s Fast Food, Good Food - there are some excellent and simple recipes there - not sure about any bean preparation tips. I also like the cookbooks that Runner’s World sells - lots of low calorie recipes I can try on Mr. Sabaray - he doesn’t even suspect they’re low cal.

Glad you’re back, Pizzagirl - stick around!

Thanks for finding that sprouts recipe Plantmom - I have some brussel sprouts in the fridge and will happily honor iDad by enjoying them in a meal this week.

Could someone cook some fresh beans for me?! I love them but H is not a fan so no one normally to eat them with!

It’s easy for me to get rid of stuff! The problem is, most of the junk belongs to NOT me (talking about you, H!) and he is not budging. I will NOT move half of this stuff to another house and I have been hoping that another house will be in our future!

Passed up the cupcakes at a work lunch today. I do LOVE frosting but these were heavily frosted neon green and pink - something about the colors told me “just say no!” . I did.

Good job, abasket! I always try to find a flaw or two if something that is not good for me looks too tempting… (“those Louboutins will be reduced to shreds if you walk in them from the bus stop to the house only once” or “the donut looks like there is a fingerprint on the glaze…did they wash their hands prior to touching it” etc.)

You know, sometimes there is the “peer pressure” thing. As I’ve mentioned before, the people I work with are NOT worried about weight or fitness - though they should be! It was someone’s birthday and so someone picked up cupcakes. It was a rare “lets all eat lunch together” days. So I was the only one who turned down a cupcake - I feel like they were thinking, “oh, there’s abasket, trying to be good!” - well, they are right and I did not want to be peer pressured into eating calories that didn’t seem worth it!

Now the peanut butter chocolate chip ice cream in my freezer at home? That’s another story - because I didn’t eat the cupcake, I’ll enjoy a small scoop of that tonight - and i KNOW it’s good!

Michael- I love your reports of your incredible rides and training on your home equipment. You and Ohio are now the resident males here! We need to recruit a few more.

Did 3.5 on the dreadmill after work while I watched the evening news. It went OK. Took the doggie out for a short walk so at least I got some fresh air. I also opened the window next to the treadmill while I was on it.

Did my Jungle Gym straps push ups and pullups (incline) which always makes me think of iDad.

Got in a 4.5 mile run tonight. My legs were feeling so tight and it really helped to get out and run. I think I’m going to lose a toenail as a casualty from the marathon - popped the blister underneath it and it doesn’t hurt as much now. Off to China in the morning.

Yes to the male recruits! I feel lost and out of sorts during the Lululemon discussions.

Idad changed my life.

I wish we could have changed his.

Wait – it sounds as if there has been news of idad? Did I miss something?

You people… :frowning:

I believe we did at times. And I believe he knew he changed lives here too. It’s why he took the time to give so much when he wrote out a post.

But that stuff is so pretty!!!

CBB- sent you a PM.
Ohio- LuLu has great men’s stuff!

Have I missed something, too (about iDad). Send me a PM if there is news.

“Ohio- LuLu has great men’s stuff!”

Mr. B approves this message. He wrinkled his nose at his first Lulu tee, but their no-stink, fast-drying Silverescent fabric won him over.

Interesting:

“A 4 hour marathoner who loses 10 lb without any change in fitness would run her next marathon in 3:45.” Yup, yup. And… In addition to requiring extra energy to carry it around, fat also impedes heat exchange in cyclists and runners! It is like biking or running in a heavy fur coat… I know what my goal should be… How to get there is another question.

Ohio, the odd thing is I feel right at home in all the Lululemon discussions. It must be the estrogen halo I have from riding with female cyclists all the time!

(Either my IPad or this site is glitching and keeps deleting most of my post when I try to save it.)
