I’m LOL’ing at MOWC laughing - on someone else’s mat!!!
abasket, I would love to take an exercise class with you! I know how you feel!
One of the moves we did yesterday was a “helicopter” - you placed your rear on this small ball to balance, legs straight up to the ceiling, then scissored your legs and rotated them around like a helicopter. Yeah, right.
We did planks with our feet in the straps, then mountain climbers, then knees out to the side, and finally pikes.
I survived! I think!
^^^^ Well, I’m impressed! I’d still probably be trying to get my feet in the straps…
Have I mentioned lately how inspiring y’all are? I love this group.
Lol, abasket! I love this group, too! I’m not afraid of virtually embarrassing myself here by telling my “epic fail” stories.
CBBBlinker, you will be back in business in due time.
I always feel rusty when I fall behind on some stuff, like my core strength exercises. But somehow I get back in the groove - and I bet so will you. Just don’t injure yourself by trying to ramp the stuff up too quickly.
Did a delightful 35 mile ride with a couple of my Sturdy Girls racers on Sunday. Blue skies, sunshine, temperatures in the 50’s and the best riding companions :). Just enough climbing to test out whether the wattage training I’m doing has improved my ability to power up the hills (I think it has)!
Did a Parallettes routine tonight followed by sets of chin ups with hanging weights and dumbbell curls. One more workout in this phase of the Parallettes training before I move to the next phase of linking movements together. What’s kinda cool about this is the focus on skill development, not just building specific strength.
2.25 miles, 1.7 run til pain, walk the rest. I’m going to try every other day and see what happens.
Did a set of core exercises last night. My tortie cat walked all over me while I was doing my planks! Good thing she weighs just 6 pounds or so. Dinner was grilled lean steak and iDad’s famous Brussel sprouts. Sigh.
Pets are good exercise companions, aren’t they? Sabapup thinks I need a prewash before I get in the shower post run. That I can do without.
Pilates with my sub was great this morning - good to work with someone else to have a different approach to technique. The general ideas are the same, but she had some great ideas for dealing with my slumping during rollups and my general hip tightness. I told her what a hard time I had with the Pilates/TRX combo class and she had some good suggestions there, too. Always good to learn something new.
I might have to rest tomorrow.
Sigh is right. ![]()
I just heard that certain Pilate or Yoga moves are in praise of a particular god or worshiped deity. So I guess I just need to say a prayer before doing any of it.
Hi all - been lurking here! Back on the wagon in prep for my retirement at the end of the year! (I’ll be going 20 hours a week for the first few weeks, then DONE!).
Wasn’t at work today, so did weights with trainer from 5:30 - 6:30 am, then did a barre class from 8:30 - 9:30 – now home and decluttering, and doing an OrangeTheory class at 4:15 pm. I feel great!
Went quasi-Paleo with a friend and “slipped” and had some carbs - triggered major cravings, you would have thought I’d never been fed in my life. I really am coming to learn how badly carbs do me in – making me hungry, crave sweets (my downfall) and feel really sleepy.
Pizzagirl - congrats on retirement! Whop whop!
On decluttering, I have a few books which have a lot of very good ideas:
“The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up” by Marie Kondo
“Rightsizing Your Life” by Ciji Ware
“Sink Reflections” by Marla Cilley - The FlyLady
“How to Get Organized When you Don’t Have the Time” by Stephanie Culp.
Any other good ideas out there?
Room by room, and little by little. Sometimes a goal is a good thing to work towards too.
Don’t encourage her to buy books - that’s MORE clutter!!!
PG, congrats on the upcoming work changes - how is it all feeling now that it’s getting quite close? Sounds like you have the opportunity to “ease into it” with the reduced hours - your choice or your work place choice???
And finally, what a great fitness day PG!!!
Welcome back to the fold, PG! Good day of exercise!
I didn’t sleep well last night and had a fairly early meeting, so I bagged my morning run. I need some rest this week since I haven’t had a cutback week in ages and have a half marathon on Saturday in Charlotte. I still felt guilty and out of sorts since I didn’t run. I’ll do a few miles after work. It’s beautiful weather right now, but here I sit in my office…
Trainer workout today. I work better when I have a goal to accomplish. I envy the runners here because you have lots of goals to work toward–time, distance, etc. Anyway–today, my trainer and I set some goals. I’m going to work on increasing my time for holding a plank (now 1 minute), moving to heavier weights for my workouts, and working toward bench pressing 110 lbs. In the past, I was bench pressed a 100 lbs–today I could do 65. I need stuff like this to keep me from getting bored.
Also, I signed up for a yoga workshop at my studio. It’s 2 hours and it’s about making transitions from one pose to another. Loved your story MOWC about falling out of crow. I do fall out of crow–luckily I haven’t tumbled onto anyone yet. I did 3 yoga classes last week and I’m trying to do the same this week.
I’m doing a cleanse with H–his administrative assistant persuaded him to try a program she did that reduces inflammation. He’s hoping it will help with his aches and pains from arthritis. Basically, it is–no caffeine, no alcohol, no carbs, no meat–just fruits and vegetables and fish. Olive oil is OK. We’re on day 2 or 14. So far, so good.
Ha! I’m pretty minimalist in spirit, so I do pretty well decluttering - just needed to set aside time to deal with certain parts of my house - under the TV, the junk drawer, my soon-to-be-useless home office … And my clothing, as I gear up (ha ha) for having more of my wardrobe from Lululemon, Athleta, et al!
Welcome back, Pizzagirl.
Congrats on sticking with the plan. Since Mr. decided to tackle a new career twist, I am following him somewhat. It looks like there is at least 15 years until I can become a full-time gym junkie.
Little kiddo is turning into a CrossFit addict. The place where she interned this summer offered free (!) lunchtime classes, with the instructor coming to their office gym, and she got hooked. She found a gym in 'More via groupon deal and is happy that she does not have an excuse to sit on her butt all day long.
I do love coming here to see what everyone’s been doing. Michael, your biking and training sound like they’re all meshing. Great job!
Lol, on the pet assistance BB and sabaray. Nrdsb4, I think idad’s brussel sprout recipe needs a repost. 'Tis the season for those tasty veggies.
Congratulations on the upcoming retirement, Pizzagirl! Lots of good exercising, too.
Bromfield, your diverse workouts and goals are inspiring to me. I personally find it hard to know what goals to set for myself. With the running, I’d love to be able to just to complete the 10K distance regularly. I have to really watch one of my ankles, though, since the tendinitis of a year ago tends to flair. I also find that when I focus on running and walking, I’m much more inclined to skip or lack time for the gym where I find it easiest to do weight work. My goal needs to be balance, I guess
I got out this morning just to get my heart rate up. I did running then walking distance intervals of 1 mile, 0.5 mile, then 0.25 mile. I got distracted by flowers during the cooldown–returned home to pick up a camera. Not quite as warm today–79 degrees in the AM, 80% humidity.
My husband made an enormous batch of black beans last weekend. Tonight, thankfully, we’ll be finished–that is, they’ll be finished I think! Next I’ll make yet another attempt at cooking dried chick peas. For some reason this bean never comes out the way I want them to. My nose has been buried in the bean cuisine cookbooks–we’re trying to cut down on all of the canned products.
