abasket, lol. Five stars for sticking with the plan. B-)
MOfWC, that is indeed a nice size race. I hope your SIL enjoys his Hokas. I tried to get Mr. into a pair, but he is sooooo picky about footwear! The wild colors did not scare him, but unusual feel did. He uses bare-bones minimalist Merrels for biking, so thick, cushy Hokas felt weird to him.
I slept really well last night (it’s Saturday morning here now) but even so I did not want to drag myself out of bed and go for a run this morning. I did it anyway and got 8.25 miles in. I’m glad to have it out of the way and have the rest of the day to do whatever I feel like doing. I don’t think I mentioned that when I packed for this trip I managed to forget to bring any running/sport bras. I picked up one last night from a local sporting goods store that cost a whopping $6. It worked out well so I may pick up a couple more.
MOWC-your shirts sound great! I hope the hills aren’t too bad for your race. I suppose where you live you’re fairly used to running hills, though.
abasket-nice job with the commitment to getting your exercise in. Running on the treadmill is awful enough, but doing it without music is really terrible!
Bromfield-I admire you for doing the classes! That’s something I want to do but haven’t been able to bring myself to do it. Somehow it’s just intimidating to see a classroom full of people 20 years younger than I am who all know what they are doing. I think I will give it a try, though, perhaps starting during Christmas break. Then I’ll just blend in with all the New Years Resolutionists.
SOS-good luck with the job interview. I will be thinking of you and wishing you the best.
Wednesday afternoon I drove down to the beach to finish up some “changing houses for the season” chores. Exercise-wise this meant I got to do my Beach Route (walking) on Thursday morning. I also did some cleaning because (1) it was needed and (2) it helped keep me warm since the heat wasn’t working. (My mother always said if you want to warm up, do some vigorous vacuuming!) The heating guy did show up and get things running, but H and I are less than pleased. This isn’t the first issue we’ve had – and it’s a new house with a fancy schmancy German furnace that’s supposed to be one of the best, etc, etc.
Anyway, yesterday I ran just under 5 miles, and I actually felt quite good. I guess I didn’t get totally out of shape by taking a break.
In non-exercise news, our D got engaged during last week’s trip to Iceland with her BF!

I agree! I have just gotten myself to the point that I’m giving myself points for showing up and trying even if I’m not a young chickie! My Barre class is in a very upscale neighborhood with a lot of young mothers with kids in elementary school who work out every day, are in fabulous shape and look amazing and chic. And of course they are a good 15 years younger!
A basket -thanks for the good wishes - uneventful procedure of which I remember absolutely nothing between being wheeled into the procedure room and waking up in post-op - so went home, drank tons of apple cider that I was having a craving for, ate a small dinner and went to bed. Uneventful! I will say that I think the trick was eating a fairly liquid / smooth / no roughage diet for a few days before, not just a liquid diet the day before.
Congratulations to you and your daughter, CBBBlinker. Get ready for a zany and fun ride as you start all the planning. My daughter got engaged in late August with an intended wedding date next October and what followed was like the Big Bang theory compressed over a 2 month period of time. An explosive chaotic swirling mass of finding, selecting and contracting with the venue, caterer, florest, photographer, videographer and entertainment that coalesced in Planet Wedding. Now we’re letting the surface cool and the grass start to grow as she finalizes her gown, invitations and save the date post cards, finishes reserving a block of hotel rooms for out of town guests and we and the in-laws arrange the engagement party, shower and rehearsal dinner. I was teasing her last night about how far ahead of the planning curve she was and she looked at me like I didn’t have a clue, explaining that she still needs to do the food tasting, set the menu, make the music selections, finalize the guest list, get out the invitations, arrange for wedding party gifts, set up transportation logistics for out of town guests from where they will be staying to the venue and arrange the choreography of how the entire night will flow from the moment the ceremony ends to the last dance. I’m in a daze from this even though I’m mostly sitting on the sidelines watching this happen around me lol!
This is a big deal for me - 10 miles this morning. Hadn’t run that far since July. I feel like I’m finally getting back to where I was. It’s a beautiful day so we’ll be headed to the park with Sabadog and Sabapup this afternoon after some errands this morning.
I’m really lucky with my Pilates studio - there’s a nice blend of students, quite a few women my age or older - and of course, some women in absolutely incredible shape. It’s just such a positive and motivating community that I just don’t feel self conscious at all.
Wow, that’s great Sabaray! Your own “almost” 1/2!!!
Great to hear things went smoothly PG. Eat well today!
Congrats CBB! So exciting! We are in the midst of our own “first” wedding planning - as the parents of the groom - the wedding is in June and they are very SLOW to make plans and decisions. I predict a moment of panic come the end of the holidays!
Yay CBB and Sabaray. Good China running, too, C3B.
Pizzagirl- glad you got through it!
More later, but I survived. 2:09:34 on a really tough but beautiful course. The hills never quit and my legs are over-raced. This was a good time on this course, but only 6th in the age group. Not sure where those fast old ladies came from! Daughter was just off her PR with 2:00:33, which is great. 39 and sunny at the start.
Woot, congrats to MOfWC and her daughter! That is awesome. I’m sure your D is thrilled. An almost PR on a tough course is the best kind of an almost PR.
Great job, all! Glad to hear Pizzagirl is back to eating.
My running plans today require major adjustment. The weather can be perfectly described by two words: “treadmill weather.” Wind, relentless rain, and lots of slippery, wet leaves and fir needles on the roads and trails. Yuck is an understatement. Welcome to the real Seattle.

Sounds very similar to the yoga studio where I practice. Women, men, all ages, all body types and fitness levels - all are welcome. And it is about minutes from my house. I don’t know if I will ever find another studio like it anywhere else.
My husband took one of those B-cycle rent-a-bikes in Charlotte and came out on the course to cheer. It’s like driving a tank, but at least he could get around the course.
I told my daughter that I wished I could race easier and not push as much, and she reminded me that it’s a RACE and I’m supposed to hurt! One problem is that I have raced 3 half marathons and a 10 miler in the last 5 weeks, which isn’t advisable for anyone, much less someone my age. My legs have had it!
14 of us went out for adult milkshakes a little while ago and ordered so many that the blender overheated and broke. That’s why we run…
Last year 2:23 won my age group. This year I was 6th with 2:09. WTF?
Congrats on a great race MOWC! Your daughter did really well also to come so close to a PR with all those hills. Glad you enjoyed those milkshakes!
BunsenBurner-yuck on that Seattle weather! We will be there for Thanksgiving week and I hope there will be a break in the rain for at least a little bit while we are there.
Leaves on the trail are bad. Our trail at home has a lot of walnut trees along it. Really pretty and the leaves are gorgeous. But when the walnuts fall and then the leaves fall it is deadly. I saw a guy go down last week because he stepped on a walnut hidden under the leaves. He twisted his ankle, but not too badly. Sure could have been a lot worse.
Sabaray-yay to your 10 miles this morning! I am so glad that you are back to your usual running form. I’ll bet it feels really good!
Pizzagirl-glad to hear that you made it through the procedure OK. I hope you enjoy all kinds of good food this weekend. And I know exactly the type of mothers you are talking about in your Barre class. I feel as I have absolutely nothing in common with them, although I’m sure most of them are actually very nice people. Just way too intimidating to me!
Michael-it sounds as if your daughter has everything lined up for a fabulous wedding. All the planning sounds like lots of fun!
CBBBlinker-congrats to your daughter on her engagement! How cool to get engaged in Iceland!
MOfWC, betcha those 5 beating you were undercover Russian track athletes recently kicked out of the Olympics for doping! Kidding. Anyway, that is a huge improvement - especially after all prior racing and Forteo. Impressive!
