Garbage bags are the way to go.
I don’t get good mileage out of any shoes. I drag the front outside of my left foot and shave right through the outsole. My online running log (www.runningahead.com) tracks my shoe mileage. I enter what shoe I wear into every run. My Garmin uploads automatically to RA and I fill in the shoes and the name of my course and any notes. Everything else, including the weather, automatically uploads. There is a list of “equipment” with totals of the mileage, what I spent on the shoes, when I put them in service, how much they are costing per mile etc. It’s really great. RunningAhead is free, but most of us make donations. The message forums are great, too.
@BunsenBurner and @MomofWildChild --a garbage bag would never have occurred to me, despite having carried one in my “emergency rain” kit for years. Thanks! It’s a great idea.
Have a fun race, dmd, and stay as dry as possible!
Happy Saturday everyone! Did my 12 mile run today - NOW I feel ready for the half marathon in 2 weeks!!
I also I feel a bit like a truck hit me, but in a good way.
Gertrude, I have one word for you: taper.
Great job!!
That’s the plan!!
Does anyone give blood? I was thinking of starting up again and used to give around Christmas but stopped based on my competition schedule plus having a bad reaction my last time. Most of it was my fault as I wasn’t properly hydrated and hadn’t really eaten anything. No matter I still get real light headed and have to lay down for 15 minutes or so afterwards. I think it is physiological and not psychological but who knows. I have Type O negative so they always want me to give a double red donation which takes a little longer.
Thank you, Ohio. Donating a double unit of O Neg is a great gift. Definitely eat and hydrate well first.
I don’t. I’m quite afraid of blood draws, and was under the weight limit for a lot of the past. I think it is a great thing to do. My husband used to do the platelet donations a lot.
I do. I’m an O-neg, it’s borderline harassment how they pester me.
There are studies that show people who regularly donate have a lower risk of cancer, and reducing the iron in your blood leads to lower blood viscosity and fewer heart attacks and strokes.
2.25 mi in 30 min on treadmill. Now finishing the cool down. Will move on to bike when it finishes in a few minutes.
Finished treadmill. 2.46 mi. 35 minutes
1.1 mi. 8 min bike will do a little upper body and call it a day
Amazingly, the rain stopped this morning. It’s threatening to rain, it’s dark and cloudy… and I made it through my 5K, dry at the start, soaking wet at the finish, but from sweating, not from rain.
And with a new PR: 31:06, just barely over a ten-minute pace. That’s the time off my Garmin (which recorded 3.15) and I’m hoping the official time shows under 31, just because I’d like that math better
Way to go, dmd! And jym- good consistency!
4.2 miles on tired legs. 62 degrees, cloudy and windy. 33.4 miles for the week. I just didn’t have the additional little bit in my legs to make it to 34 for the week, which was my goal.
Did my last recovery ride for this period of my cycling training. Time to move on to my next phase. Of course, it coincides with moving on to the intermediate level of my parallettes training. Uh oh, I think I’m in trouble now!
Hate to keep talking about the weather, but to roll out of bed on December 13 and head outside at 8am for a run in capri pants and a tshirt (could have done shorts) in 61 degree weather is amazing! 3.5 done this morning before a busy day.
After perusing some options for the next 8 weeks of indoor cycling training, I decided to go with a program designed for hill climbing road races. Should be interesting :)!
@ohiopublic, have you looked at the a cycling Training programs from Trainer Road? Very well thought out and structured for specificity of results. Subscription costs $10/month. The software gives you options to use a power meter, an electronic trainer that measures wattage or virtual wattage based on the power curves of a broad variety of rear wheel trainers. Great software for indoor wattage based training.
Both my kids use Trainer Road.
Sounds tough, Michael.
MNK - thanks I’ll look into. I’m also thinking of doing the McMillan running training program starting jan 1
