Walking mileage for the day: 7.8. The last time I did something like that… I was in Europe.

That’s an impressive amount of walking, bb! S and I went into the city (DC) with friends for our annual December museum visit and dinner. I should have set the app on my phone to see how far I walked. We did have a nice dinner and stopped at a trendy dessert bar.

Sounds like a fun day, FallGirl! I bet you’re glad to have your son home. It was such a beautiful day here yesterday that Sabadog and Sabapup took us to the park. It was practically deserted except for one elderly couple and their spaniel, who was very glad to have some company. Nice two miles in nature. Then we went to the grocery. An activity not for the faint of heart! I’ll be testing my strength skills at Costco this morning and then I’m done.

One of my friends just ran 149.13 miles in 24 hours. On a track. It is an unconfirmed (yet) world record for 50-54 age group. It might just be an American age group record. I can’t even imagine… He runs a lot, needless to say.

OMG. On a track!!! I cannot imagine.

On a track? How 'bout 149 miles just on 2 feet! WOW.

That’s 6 and a change miles per hour! OMG. Running on a track is like running on a gigantic treadmill.

More proof that runners are nuts.

I just don’t get the part where you are awake for 24 hours!

My big accomplishment was 3.7 miles today. That follows last night’s visit to a local micro-brewery before the Vandy game where I had PB&J Stout and Peppermint Stout. Both were fantastic.

I passed by 1600 mile goal for the year!

Yay MOWC! Now you can have some Christmas egg nog without guilt :).

Did a really nice 30 mile off road ride today on my cross bike. Trails with hills really are tougher than roads lol. Starting temp was 35 degrees; ending temp was 39 degrees. But beautiful sunshine and blue skies.

Between now and dinner, I’m doing software/driver updates to attempt to eliminate the sync loss I’m experiencing periodically when using Trainerroad with my Kickr for wattage training. Then I think I’ll
spend some time perusing my DVD exercise library to come up with new ways to torture my clients. They’re probably fine with what I have them doing but I’m getting bored lol.

Great job, MoWC! As for your friend and the 129 miles, well that’s just amazing!

I had a walking day today–three miles after seeing THE movie–Star Wars, of course  We had a party last night–lovely company and delicious dinner featuring spicy Indian food. Really outstanding. Tonight I made Ina Garten’s baked shrimp scampi. It is the best recipe. Here, I’ll share. It’s something I’m sure idad would have on his menu

Shrimp scampi is our traditional Christmas Eve dish - I’ll take a look at yours Plantmom!

Only pup walks today. Packed my gym bag - going tomorrow before work is my own exercise option!

Made it to the gym this morning - felt like I wanted to “high 5!” everyone there who had/has the motivation to get up and there at 6:30 in the morning - and on Christmas week! Ran the track and did some time on the rowing machine - I should be feeling that tomorrow morning! Now to TRY and get focused on getting some work done at my job!

@dmd77 I found “Cycling past 50” at the library. Obviously geared ( ) toward the cyclist rather than the runner. Saturday I did my first track/speed workout in about 9 months and it felt good. I am going to do that once per week as I point to an indoor meet in February.(800m) I competed in my first ever masters track meet back in April which was also my first time racing on the track in 35 years. I was a mediocre high school runner.

Excellent, NJRes! Ohiopublic has been competing in masters’ meets so you guys should compare notes.

abasket- congrats on the gym! Good consistency.

I was able to start back on the jungle gym/trx pushups/pullups since I’m a week past eye surgery. Did a little this morning and ran 2 1/2 miles on the dreadmill.

@NJres — Fast After 50 is kind of an updated-with-new-research version of Cycling Past 50. But much the same ideas. Friel is 70 now and his writing reflects what he’s learned.

If any of you need inspiration to just get up in the morning and get out the door, I suggest you read this article: http://www.outsideonline.com/2039276/hello-i-must-be-going .

It’s about Kurt Searvogel, an ultra cyclist who is trying to break the record for riding the most miles on a bicycle in one year. The current record is just over 75000 miles, set by Tommy Godwin in 1939. Kurt is less than 3000 miles from setting the record–he’s ridden an average of more than 200 miles per day, every day, for almost a year now. He’s 52.

Our bike company is supplying Kurt with shorts and tires, which sort of makes us a sponsor, but really, we’re doing it because Kurt is a friend of my husband’s and we support the effort. After watching what he’s done this year, I am in awe.

That’s amazing, dmd. How neat that he is a friend of your husband’s! That’s some HUGE mileage!

Spending the holidays with my D and son-in-law in Chapel Hill–went with them to the gym today. Worked out for 90 minutes; did a weight workout and walked on an indoor track for 2 miles (it was 13.1 laps for a mile). I ran the last 6 laps. Son-in-law is a UNC grad student and the gym was a UNC affiliated facility–lots of equipment and trainers there.

Your ultracyclist friend is very inspiring, Dmd!

Hi everyone. I’m back after being gone for a few days – managed to fit in a run on Friday morning and a short walk on Sunday but other than that, my schedule made it pretty impossible to do anything. I managed to get to the gym today, so hopefully back on schedule at least until I go away again for a long weekend at New Year’s. I also saw The movie (Star Wars), twice, actually. I’m a pretty big fan.

MoWC inspired me to count my miles. This year (so far) I ran 308.26 miles and swam 58 miles, and there is no way to count the number of miles I’ve walked. I don’t know what my mileage was the last couple years, but I can say that I ran 308.26 more miles this year than I did in 2012. I’ll never approach MoWC’s numbers, which is fine with me – I’m quite happy with my mileage.
