I bet there are! Designer brands are trying to capitalize on the fitness craze. Because exercising in ubiquitous Nike or lowly Lulu is not cool enough.

Tory Burch just recently launched a line of athletic clothing. Some of her stuff is nice, and the pricing is not completely outrageous.

The clothing prices are just so bizarre. I see it with my cycling clothing. And the pisser is the retailers really do make killing on it notwithstanding their protests to the contrary. I just picked up a warm weather cycling kit which between the bib shorts and jersey had a normal retail price of $275. Because of my race team discount, I paid $125 - 20% over cost. Go figure.

My son wanted a cold weather cycling jacket for Christmas and they are really expensive. The best price was from some cycling shop in the UK (online). I ordered it, never received a confirmation, kept trying to contact them to no avail, and the thing showed up (well, had to collect it at the post office and sign for it) about a week after I ordered it!

Even I would not spend $300 on running tights- although they do look really cool! For that money they better run FOR me!

jym- One key is to figure out a way to make your elliptical NOT be boring. That might mean TV, a podcast on your iPod, dance tunes or something. As you gain fitness, intervals tend to make the time go faster. 1 minute hard, 1 easy, etc. You can rack up some time that way and it’s less boring. My sister used to catch up on all her recorded TV shows while she was on her elliptical.

I would spend $300 on a shirt that MADE me run faster.

Pricey clothing! I’d rather get more pieces for the same amount of money  Heck, I’m slightly traumatized about the price of lulu leggings. It’s a good thing I live in a warm weather place and can get by on skimpier (less $$) clothes. I ended up getting lulu wunder unders for D. Even that was difficult because of the different fabric compositions, pant waistlines, and patterns. She just wants black! She did not want Nike. I hope they get here in time

It was super humid this morning–rainy and warm. I ran 1.6 miles and just walked another to finish it. Cold front moving in for two days, though. I’ll try to run again this weekend.

There are swim suits that make you faster, apparently. When Speedo came out with their patented sharkskin fabric that helped to win a few golds the Sydney Olympics, some parents in my neck of the woods were buying those $200 sharkskins for their summer league age groupers. Lol. Not sure that at running speeds a shirt would make a big difference!

PlantMom, hope your daughter likes the leggings. They are amazingly comfy and flattering.

4.5 miles done at the gym! It was flurrying and WINDY outside - did three around the track and another 1.5 on the treadmill. I seem to be starving tonight though! Enjoying some leftover chicken and sweet potato on a wrapping gift break.

I have always found that piece of equipment (the elliptical) boring. At the gym I have always preferred the treadmill, weights, etc. That’s why we waited so long to get one, as I really wasn’t all that excited about it. But it was a gift and I am very appreciative. I watch tv when I am on it but it’s still dull to. Me. Sorry to say.

jym626, I have the same reaction to the elliptical. Even if I’m watching an engrossing program on tv, I’ve always found the elliptical to be drudgery. To a large degree, however, I think that’s inherent to any indoor cardio if you are just engaging in repetitive motion at a constant level of effort. For me, I’ve found that the best way to avoid monotony is to do high intensity interval training where you have a variety of intensity and duration and are forced to mentally engage and focus on the work intervals. Makes it much easier to avoid just “watching the clock” which is tortuous!

As I mentioned, earlier today I ran 4.5 miles at the gym. There is an indoor track but it’s on the small side. 12 times around = 1 mile. Now I don’t time myself by each time around - I would go nuts counting! I used to look at the clock - that wasn’t much better. I now run the track or trackmill with # of songs in mind. I tell myself to listen to 3 or 4 songs before I check the time. Music makes a world of difference to me. I prefer the track to the treadmill because w/the treadmill I find myself unable to ignore the number display and I become a slave to looking at it. Needless to say, I probably did run around that dang track at least 36 times today!!

Checking in, this won’t be exercise related in any way. Because I haven’t done anything. My cold is getting better but I now have a terrible cough. Not getting much sleep.

Oh well, I’ll be better soon.

Yesterday was a rough day, my D broke up with her boyfriend of 4 and a half years. It was rough because she thought this was the one. She’s very, very sad. She’s on her way home and she’ll be here for a week. She planned to go back to work the week between Christmas and New Years and spend it with the boyfriend. This is hard.

My S hasn’t said anything but I’m thinking an engagement between him and his girlfriend is imminent. She was hinting and I’m hoping he has it figured out lol! He’s a bit clueless. As much as I am hoping for an engagement between them, it’s bittersweet with the other kid hurting so much right now.

I’m so sorry, deb - it’s so hard to see your child hurting. I hope you’re feeling better.

I made it out for 6 miles this morning - it seems most of my running group has been suffering from what can only be called the “crud”. The fresh air felt good.

Deb- I’m so sorry. That is really hard. Been there…

Sabaray- good job this morning.
About to head out with my daughter for 8-9 miles for me and a little longer for her. We will start together but her coach has her doing a faster last 3 miles today- and I will not be able to keep up with that. It’s chilly but clear.

Hugs to your D, Deb.

Oh Deb, look at the glass half full that she is able to come home and be around family. That is very, very tough. I’m sure you will be a great listener and consoler.

On the other hand, best of luck with your S and possible FDIL! Be sure to clue us in if any “moments” happen!

9.3 miles done! I wore the older Lulu puff. The underarm vents and front partial zipper really make this wearable even as the temp warms up somewhat. It was about 28 when we started. We ran a little faster than I should have for 5 1/2 miles and then I turned back and my daughter went a little farther before turning for the faster part of her run. I didn’t really slow down much, and she finished her 10.2 a few minutes behind me, so it worked out well. It was sunny and pretty. We went to Einstein’s for bagel sandwiches afterwards. I am thankful to be able to run with my daughter.

I am at 1599 miles for the year and my goal is 1600!

Sorry for your D, deb. I know how hard a break-up is on our kids. We’re in a similar situation :frowning: Hoping the best for your son, though!

A bit of cold air blew in last night. It was in the 40’s this morning–first time in almost a year! Even though the reprieve will be short (back to mid 80’s for Christmas) it is very, very welcome. My husband and I walked for about 4 miles; then I ran 3 more.

Deb, so sorry.

Going for a looong mall walk to gather some last minute supplies.

Hope you got your shopping and steps in BB!

No formal exercise besides pup walks today. The good news? Went to the movies with D and didn’t have any treats! The bad news? Picked up a delicious mushroom pizza on the way home - and had a small piece of leftover cake from a family party earlier this week. Feeling a little stuffed! Did ok on the quantity, but not the quality!

Friends from Chicago are stopping by tomorrow. Our tradition is to always go out for Mexican. Note to self: light, healthy breakfast in the morning!

Walked 4 miles today and will have to walk some more! Feels good.
