abasket- I wear my Athleta dresses to work, too. I find I can wear a lot of my Lulu and Athleta to work with the right things over/under and accessories. That makes it easier to justify purchases!
Wise words from BB "This is not a freakin’ mission to Mars where one error dooms everything! " Great comments everyone. Keep up the group support because I need you all!
I’m surviving the cold, and it’s pretty bad today-- it has to be below 10 degrees with a raging wind. I shoveled a bit of snow today and ran about 5 miles after I went to church with my mother this morning, wearing leggings underneath jeans. I have no cute winter cover-ups!!!
Yesterday my sister and I shoveled snow, carried wood, made fire, and prepared a fire pit dinner outside in the snow. Beef tenderloin with a fire roasted herb salsa, sauteed mushrooms, brussels sprouts with balsmic, pan fried cheese on croutons with fired andoulle sausage finished with flamed apple brandy, black beans, ash pit beets and onions, a string-danged roasted chicken, fired lettuce, and smores. It was a ton of fun and felt quite…paleo. I wouldn’t want to do this every day, unless I had the spiked hot cocoa we used to stay warm
No time for any other exercise.
Shoveled snow… No time for any other exercise… No kidding!!!
Great job!
You ran 5 miles in that cold?! YIKES!
Barely got my steps in today with the traveling but did, and about 20 mins of shoveling which might account for a few calories burned off.
Ticked off at my gym at work. Tomorrow should be the start of a new class schedule - only…no schedule out yet! Packing some work out clothes anyway - tomorrow is a high only in the teens and after a near 50 degree yesterday where I ran and sweated and son took a long bike ride, today our sidewalks and roads are FULLY ice covered. Ugh.
No, I did not run 5 miles in the cold! No way, no how!!! I was at a gym with an indoor track. Lots of trips around that thing.
PG: I go home from the gym and shower. Once in a while, I will run an errand before going home. I am usually sweaty when I finish exercising, especially spinning and hot yoga. Not really as sweaty when I finish other classes or trainer workouts, but I dont want to stay in gym clothes all day.
8 miles treadmill @130 heart rate. Mile pace is starting to drop so I’m seeing some improvement. Really don’t trust pace accuracy readout on treadmills but I’m not headed outside anytime soon in cold windy snowy weather.
Ohio, FWIW, all treadmills I ran on always required more effort to maintain a certain pace than the effort I needed to maintain the same pace on the trail.
Tried my Airdyne today. No dice. Can’t bend my knee enough. Can’t straighten it fully, either. I tried sleeping in bed last night, but it was very uncomfortable. Will go back to the recliner tonight. (Sorry, DH!) PT starts tomorrow. Poor S2 has been dragooned into being my personal chauffeur this week. Other joints (hip and right hand) are still really barking 10 days after my fall on the deck ramp, so may go to a walk-in clinic to get xrays just to make sure nothing is broken.
Yikes, CD. Your knee will take time to heal… been there with Mr’s knee surgery. Glad your S2 is there for you. Can you prop your knee up with a pillow or two to keep it in a comfy position (if one can be comfy after a surgical procedure!) when you sleep? Mr. B did that for a while. I hope nothing is broken in your hip and hand! Fingers crossed the barking will go away.
Hope today is more comfortable for you, CD and am glad your son is able to help you out!
It is cold here (21), but got in 5.65 this morning - wore my Lulu puff and had to unzip the vents - I was warm! I got a nifty new hat from Lulu for Christmas as well - tried that out and loved it. Not itchy which is one of my complaints with most hats. I was very slow but got it done.
No workout at all today. I have been sick since yesterday AM. Sore throat, body ache, cough. I have no choice but to go into the office today.
Take care of yourself, FallGirl - lots of fluids!
Hang in there, CD. We’re pulling for you. Sorry you are sick, FallGirl. It’s so miserable to have that stuff.
Sabaray- you are braver than I am. It was 12 degrees (coming your way) outside this morning and I had every intention of putting on all the neat winner running gear, but I just couldn’t do it. I only needed a short run, so I went downstairs to the dreadmill for 2.2 miles. More after work. Those vents on the puff pullover are wonderful. They really do a great job cooling you down just right.
Which hat did you get? I got one that has a hole at the top so isn’t really for the coldest weather but is very versatile. A lot of the time I like heat to escape out of the top but I need my ears and some of my head covered. I have all levels of headbands, hats, and things that cover more of my face.
Yep, supposed to be here by Wednesday - won’t be outdoors then!
My hat is the “Run and Done” - one of my little “luxury” items from D that she knows I’d never buy for myself. I have quite a few earwarmers but they are definitely throwaways - now that I have the hat I think I’m going to need more.
Pilates done and I’m going to a DaVinci Bodyboard class in an hour.
Hang in there, CD!
Yesterday’s exercise was ice chipping and snow shoveling and a 4 mile walk with the dog. Today it is cold and snowy and icy. I’m planning to go to the gym tonight and try to do some kind of cardio. Ideally the treadmill or stair climber, but the way the gym was so packed last week I know that I’ll have to wait for anything to be available. This is a bad time of the year for getting on any equipment at the gym. I sure wish I were retired and able to go to the gym during off-hours.
PlantMom-your feast sounds amazing!
BunsenBurner-safe travels home!
FallGirl-sorry to hear you are under the weather, I hope feel better soon. I wish you could have stayed home and rested today, but I totally get how sometimes you just have to go into the office even if you probably shouldn’t.
Looks like FLOTUS likes to SoulCycle!!! http://www.nytimes.com/2016/01/11/us/politics/a-beat-and-a-bike-michelle-obamas-candlelit-habit.html?smid=fb-nytimes&smtyp=cur
A little ticked off at our fitness center here at work. Just came out with the classes for this semester. REALLY limited. Basically one mid day class, one evening class M-F. Most class types only repeated once a week (gentle flow yoga and zumba twice a week). Something new called “Cize” - looks like it’s a dance type class - think Shawn T. (might be rolling my eyes…) Spinning only once! - what!!! TICKED. OFF.
Plantmom, how AMAZING for you to be in Green Bay area during that AMAZING win last night! Woo! All I ask is for one play off win - and that was a fun one. We’ll see what happens next!!
My Runners World Calendar Today’s Tip
“Every mile you run burns roughly 100 100 calories. Think of that next 6-miler as two slices of pizza”
Guess I should have run 12 miles yesterday for the other half of the pizza my son brought home last night.
Taking advantage of newfound freedom - 3 classes in the books. Pilates, DaVinci Bodyboard, and Corepower Yoga. Note my steadfast avoidance of cardio :-). J/k, I have OrangeTheory tomorrow.
