Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Putting aside for a moment how egregiously this guy behaved, I can’t understand why the insurance company was held in where he did not have employment practices coverage. I’m sure the court had its reasons but the company is the same one that insures me as a trainer so now do I have him to blame for my premiums going up ?

BB, hope you’re ok!

Thanks, Michael! I am ok. I think I can even try to run tonight. However, it has been raining here relentlessly since the weekend (what else is news? ), so it means treadmill if I am up to running.

Really interesting article on calories in our food and why the numbers can be misleading. Long but worth reading.

Fascinating article, Michael. Thanks for sharing!

Excellent article!

One caveat…

That, and the fact that she no longer suffers from the diarrhea and other nasty GI symptoms caused by C. diff!!

It is absolutely true that our gut bacteria affects how we absorb nutrients. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to quantitatively determine how one’s gut flora diversity affects food absorption and weight. Too many variables to account for!

I figure that if I eat everything, I’m bound to find something that matches my flora well! JK

BB< Glad you aren’t seriously hurt. My big spill in December was on a wooden ramp at my dad’s. Better me than him – he would have broken his hip. The ramp had not been pressure washed in @ 20 years and when it got drizzly, it was like an ice rink. S2 came down to help me and he slid all over the place as well.

30 minutes of core strength exercises w/weights, BB’s 20 pushups and my steps for the day!

The 4 old men made it to Key West this afternoo on their bikes. 50 mile day- mostly in the rain. With a headwind! I’m glad I was driving the van. 6.2 mile running day for me. Tomorrow morning I will check out Key West on my run.

Yay! 3.5 miles on my Precor. The hip was just a tiny bit sore, but manageable. Thank goodness I dodged that problem!

CD, that is so scary.

Glad you are ok, bb.

Yesterday was a "day off " for me. I flew to Florida to see my parents. Managed some walking in the airport, but that’s it. Had wine and chocolate here, but chose salmon for dinner. Planning to walk on the beach later. Don’t hate me haha.

Jealous of the Florida adventures MOWC. Here, the weather is a bit crazy. Warm with freezing rain one day, cold the next. Rinse and repeat. Yesterday I had to turn around driving to the ski trail because of the weather. I did a short walk later because the temps had dropped and the wind picked up and I hadn’t dressed warm enough.

I fell skiing the day before but nothing was hurt. The snow is sticky which is wierd but I was skiing and one ski stopped and stuck. Down I went. It’s sticky because of the temps fluctuating.

So here I am trying to do something everyday.

I have a question about tights. The toasty tech tight from lulu vs the wind warrior from Athleta. The wind warrior is cheaper but the reviews are not good. Says that they pill terribly. The lulu pants reviews are not great either. Wondering if anyone has either of these tights and what do they think? I think I’m leaning towards the lulu pants. They don’t have the wind warrior 2 in my size, just the wind warrior which are compression pants and I’m not sure I want those.

Glad you were able to make it out, FallGirl - hope you enjoy your beach time. Well deserved!

Deb, I have several items from Lulu that have less than stellar reviews but I’ve never had an issue with any of the items. I don’t like the compression items from Athleta, so I’d be inclined to go with the Lulu. Just my two cents.

Circuit class this morning. My coordination and balance have definitely improved! My goal for this month was to attend some new classes regularly, and I’ve accomplished that - four weeks in a row for two new classes! Supposed to warm up this weekend so hoping for an outdoor run, but we have a lot of melting and refreezing overnight so I need to wait until later in the day - no early am runs, that’s for sure.

Deb, I have the wind warrior 2 and I LOVE them! I don’t wash them frequently but so far (I’ve had them maybe 2 months?) no pilling - they are my “go to” bottoms for running in the cold, walking in the cold, dog walking in the cold!

But I’m partial to Athleta stuff and can’t really compare to Lulu.

I like both brands but both my daughter and I think some of the Athleta tights have a strange fit. I, like sabaray, have never had a quality problem with Lulu. I know others have, though.

Gorgeous 6.8 mile run on the Key West waterfront. It was a "this is why I run"run. I actually was trying to do 6.2 but I had added on a pier and then miscalculated my turnaround. It was cooler and less humid, but with a strong north wind.

That sounds lovely. I could so use that right now! Nothing but gray slush here.

I do not own either of the tights, so can’t comment on the fit. Just wanted to say that I have not had any issues with anything I got from Lulu. I wash my Lulu stuff as they recommend: cool water, no fabric softener, no cotton items with athletic clothes in the washer, line dry.

I also always line dry most all of my athletic clothing. I think the dryer can be a guilty culprit.
