deb922 – I tend to buy Athleta because of the price (and the sales). I have the wind warrior and have had no problems, although they are last year’s version. Title Nine has these – http://www.titlenine.com/product/cold-killer-womens-pant-regular-220960.do?sortby=ourPicks&refType=&from=fn – they’re not tights, though.

I also line dry all my athletic clothing.

My nausea finally abated – my doc said it was the Vitamin D and advised switching to another brand. Apparently all Vitamin D is not alike, and different brands are more reliable than others - and some brands don’t have the amount of Vitamin D that they say. A new bottle is on the way courtesy of Amazon.

Had a bit of an experience during this week’s swim. I was rudely interrupted in mid lap by a fire alarm! Let me tell you, my mind was churning as I walked from the pool to the locker room, the alarm was clanging and I was frantically trying to figure out what to do – dripping wet, 40-something degrees outside. Do I throw on clothing on top of the wet suit? Do I take the time to strip off the suit and put on clothing? Most women did the first, I decided to change. False alarm, of course. I did feel funny standing outside with my swim cap on, googles perched on top.

An interesting perspective on diets and exercise:

http://www.bbc.com/future/story/20160120-why-that-one-diet-trick-wont-work

So when it comes to weight loss, optimists and pessimists do not succeed for their own reasons: optimists “bite too much to chew” by setting unrealistic goals and then feel disappointed, and pessimists always “start tomorrow.” I firmly believe that the folks posting here are all realists.

I think mixing up my exercise has been a really good thing for fitness and wellbeing. Having my trainer has also helped me not to fail - when I started Pilates, I think the woman I was working with was really just going through the motions - and not spending time on fundamental moves. Now, we work up to new moves - there’s never any failure. Mr. Sabaray is always amazed that I can do some things that in years past wouldn’t have been possible - but it’s not like I just walked down to the studio and started doing them!

Prompted by Michael’s thoughts on the subject, I have stopped weighing myself every day. On the plus side, I am no longer obsessing over normal fluctuations. I’ve given myself a three pound window before I start to panic about weight! Now if I could just get Mr. Sabaray to panic just the slightest. He’s both an optimist and a pessimist - unrealistic goals he’s going to start on tomorrow.

That’s an exciting swimming adventure, fireandrain!

OrangeTheory done. 2 weeks away from full retirement. Planning a weekly exercise session (probably barre) with an old friend I am catching up with and packing for an upcoming trip to FL where I plan lots of beachfront walking!

My H and I had a tiff last night and he would DEFINITELY fall into one of those categories ^^^ - NOT the realist!

We had lots of leftovers in the refrig so I didn’t want to cook a whole new meal. We had pork chops, some quinoa/rice, some leftover chicken with a little pasta/veggies, some vegetable based soup. I asked him what he wanted to have. “Oh, I can’t have anything. I’ve done horrible eating this week” (Friday morning is WW weigh in). I told him, “well, you shouldn’t deprive your body of HEALTHY food - why go hours without eating at all because you made bad choices? Make a good choice now and feel better”. He looked at me and said something like, “Don’t try to make me feel worse for eating bad - it is what it is!” - how was I trying to make him feel bad?! Pick up and eat something healthy - don’t just NOT eat?! UGH!!! Unrealistic AND pessimistic all in one husband!!!

We are wrapping up our Palm Springs desert vacation. Yesterday I ran with the dog and then met with a swim instructor to try to re-learn how to do a flip turn. (I’d forgotten.) Once again, I completely bonked. Last time I bonked, it was half an hour of swimming–this time it was nearly an hour. It was the same thing as last time, though, just completely drained of energy and shaking with exhaustion. My current working theory is that the energy depletion of staying warm in the pool adds to the exercise depletion to take out my reserves faster than I realize. I spent the afternoon recovering and feel fine today (a little sore, but that probably has more to do with the cumulative effects of running/cycling/swimming/hiking every day for two weeks).

Should anyone be considering a desert vacation, I can enthusiastically recommend the Palm Desert Aquatic Center. Reasonable drop in fee. Absolutely gorgeous pools–four of them! The main pool is 25 meters by 50 meters–swim lengthwise part of the day (6 lanes) and crosswise (16 lanes) the rest of the day. And a very pretty parking lot, which is not something I ever though I’d say. It used to be a date palm orchard and they simply added parking and driving lanes, rather than removing all the trees.

Wow, dmd! That is a good info on the Aquatic Center. Great to know. I <3 Palm Springs.

I’m like your h, abasket. If I’ve eaten “bad” my inclination is just not to eat at all for the next meal.

Fully jealous of all these warm vacations!!! Should I brag tomorrow when the high is 46 - HEATWAVE!!!

Lunchtime spin class. Substitute instructor who was “eh” - but got the time and exercise in.

Just took a 4.5 mile walk. So nice to be out in fresh air and sunshine.

@fireandrain, I really like those pants. The Athleta pants are out, I think I’m going to order the lululemon one but the title 9 ones look really nice and I don’t want them that tight.

I know most know this already. But this goes to show that IMO trackers are not accurate but just a tool and are good to show how active you are. Road ID has an app for smartphones. Has anyone used it? It sends out a text to your loved one that you are exercising. My H called and said that he could click the link and he could see where I was. You set a time and can set a stationary time also. For instance I said I was going to ski 1.5 hours. If I went past that, and there was a set time that you go over, it will send an alert. If you don’t move for a certain amount of time, it will also send out and alert. I turn the app off when I was done and it sent another text to my H that I was finished.

The app is nice since sometimes I go places that aren’t that populated and it gives a bit of reassurance that someone knows where you are and not lying in a ditch. Anyways I think we will utilize it.

Now to tracking, the Fitbit said I went 3.2 miles, the phone tracker 4 miles. I suspect neither was accurate. Next time I will wear my garmin (which is accurate) and see where it ends up. I like tracking what I’ve done and Fitbit is a nice toy. I’m not sure that it’s particularly meant for me. I did find that I must move quite a bit. Who knows,

I am going to check out that app, deb - it sounds awesome.

I finally caved - I was at Costco and saw the Fitbits for the 2 millionth time and finally bought one. I got the Charge HR. It is charging as I type.

Welcome to the dark side

Yay Sabaray! Welcome to Fitbit obsession!
Deb- sounds like a great app:

Our Costco did not have the Charge HR, so the assimilation did not happen. Otherwise, I’d be there, too!

BB, as the Queen of the Borg said, “Resistance is futile.” And here’s a kicker; I was in the Bloomingdale’s Men’s department and they had a huge display of Garmin Fitbits. They’re now so fashionable lol!

Deb, do you just the Road ID app or do you also have the Road ID ID tag/bracelet/whatever??? Sounds great!

You know, with all the talk about whether fitness devices are accurate or not. Here’s what I think. I don’t need mine to be particularly accurate most of the time. I mean, did I run 3 miles or 3.3? 4.5 or 4.8? Doesn’t really matter to me. What matters is the consistency of ME and my activity. In the winter, I have my Fitbit set for 11,000 steps daily. I decided 2 things: 1) I wanted a little more of a challenge than the traditional 10,000 (like MOWC, I strive for 11,000 above my running miles most days. 2) So maybe the tracker is not fully accurate - by giving myself the extra 1000 steps, I figure that’s a 10% edge - so surely I end up with 10,000 total - and usually more!!!

So, with that, as long as I stay consistent - walking 11,000 steps or running an average of 3.5 or whatever - then I feel the accuracy isn’t an issue - it’s MY regularity that matters.

It works for me!!!

Welcome to the Fitbit world Sabaray! Black or Plum???

1 hour 20 minutes on the AlterG at 125 HR. Finally able to go fast. The AlterG continually reminds me that I could be running at the Rio 16 Olympic Games if I weighed 104 lbs (and managed to keep the same muscle mass!)

Maybe I could do it if a I shed unnecessary weight like hair, arms, nose, ears, etc. Might even make me more aerodynamic. Similar to what NASCAR drivers do or MNKat on his bikes.

Oh, please don’t do that Ohio!!!

Ohio, maybe you should spare your ears and consider running nekkid? That’s an easy couple of pounds to shed, lol. Wow. I see a business idea: develop synthetic materials for racing clothing and shoes that weigh less than a couple of ounces combined.
