Those muffins sound good MK - I’ve never seen them.
Weird, I haven’t had trouble with my frozen bread slices. I wonder if it’s because it’s double wrapped? Costco has two loaves, each with their own wrap. And then those two wrapped loaves in another bag - so that’s how I freeze it.
I’m glad you’re getting some relief with the NSAID, romani!
More beach miles today. I ran about 4 miles and walked at least 6 more. Fitbit has recorded over 27000 steps for the day. I wish we were always on vacation time Yesterday we had a curious and somewhat frightening experience. An older woman was walking on the beach, and she was lost–couldn’t remember which direction she and her husband had parked their car. Fortunately she knew it was a public parking area of which there are few here, and we walked with her for about a mile to get her back to her worried husband. She had been so engrossed in hunting for shells that she was just confused about where she’d been. In addition, she was carrying a large bag of shells that must have weighed a ton. We offered to carry them, but she declined that help. She didn’t have a phone with her either. We were all sighing with relief when we spotted her worried husband waiting at the parking lot!
I’ve tried Ezekial bread (bought it at Whole Foods) but found that in addition to the frozen slices that were difficult to separate, it had kind of a cardboard or dry texture that became oddly spongy when I toasted it. Maybe I got a bad loaf or need to try the cinnamon raisin flavor. I’ve been making whole wheat bread in the bread machine for years now though at husband’s request and have an established expectation for bread.
Heading out to NYC in the morning - 5 Broadway shows in 5 days - wee ha!! It will not be a good week of eating, but I’ll try to get in a few runs, at least one outdoors along the East River, weather permitting. I’ll probably be mostly offline, so have a good week everyone!!
@BunsenBurner and @abasket, the brand actually is Food for Life. Ezekial is one of its product lines. Here’s the website showing all its products. Some of their stuff is tastier than other of their products.
Food for Life trademarked the Esekiel’s name, lol. I suppose the prophet would not mind to be associated with healthy foods, especially the ones he apparently invented.
Added 3.5 miles on the Precor to my 11K steps. Fitbit did not count my steps correctly while I was running on the belt, but I will call it “close enough.” The Dashboard allows me to replace a segment of my day with “activity” and specify what it was and how much I ran/biked/etc. I can even add weights if I wanted to. I do not think my 20/20 pushups need to be accounted for - it is such a minor thing.
Abasket- BibimBap is the best! You can cut the rice down (or skip it) for less starch.
Bunsen- my FitBit does well on the treadmill. Do you hold your arms too still?
I did not get my afternoon/evening run in today, so it was a light day. Some things got in the way at work and then we went to see Willie Nelson tonight (the musician- not my cat). I have a 15K Sat morning (Hot Chocolate run) Sat morning and they have instituted the “extreme cold” plan. Lovely. They will pull people off the course or divert them to 5K if they are too slow. Aim is to protect the volunteers. It’s going to be bitter cold. I sign up for this why???
Abasket, thanks, that’s the bread I bought! I like the taste a lot. If I smear a monomolecular layer of salted butter on it… yum. I guess I will have to look for the fresh loaves and do the freezing myself to minimize the crumbling.
Thanks, MNK! Bummer… Then our Costco definitely does not have it, because I would have seen in in the freezer! Oh, well. Will have to live off the crumbs. Pity me.
Oh WOW. I am so impressed with the Fitbit Dashboard. It recognized my 30-min run as a “Run” without any input from me and logged it into the daily activity log. Lemme guess - it looked at my HR patterns. Creepy in a cool way.
Now the “big bro” tells me, “Beat yesterday! Only 2,880 steps to go” - I do not think so.
Went to a Barre class yesterday afternoon and circuit class this morning - I am happy to see some improvements in flexibility, balance AND the size of the weights I am using! Coordination is another story - don’t know that there’s any hope for me there. It’s a fun class though. Variety is a good thing!
I use Michael’s table knife trick on our Ezekiel bread but invariably end up with some broken pieces. I was doing well making my own bread for a while but haven’t kept with it - I need to get back to doing that.
Cold is supposed to continue through the weekend. I would not enjoy racing in weather this cold. Romani, I am so glad a change in medication has you feeling better!
Sabaray- Your consistency is incredible. Good job getting out of bed so early every day and going to classes or running.
It is way too cold (will be tomorrow) to race well, so I didn’t taper. I just did 3.5 on the treadmill. I had planned to go outside but my weather bug said there was some sleet and snow and I didn’t want to slip. I looked outside, but it was dark. Of course, there wasn’t a thing and I could have been outside. Oh well- I’ll get 15K worth of outside tomorrow!
I will be wearing a lot of clothes tomorrow.
I would love to get outside this weekend, but it is bitter cold.
On a more positive note, I ran 1.5 miles on the treadmill this AM. That is the farthest I have ever done. Joined the local running group and have the sign up date for their women’s training program on the calendar.
I am hoping that a reduction in winter mileage and a focusing more on strength will make me a stronger runner later in the year when it’s important to me. I really want to improve on my marathon time. Last year was incredibly frustrating for me.
I was initially intimidated by the thought of going to my current studio, but it has been such a positive for me. The instructors, the clients, it’s really a community more than a gym. It’s probably some of the most challenging exercise I’ve ever done, but I have such a sense of accomplishment when it’s over and Lord knows I need it!
FallGirl, so glad you’ve joined a running group! Having others to train with made a huge difference for me. You are doing great.
Ask someone at your Costco BB just to be sure - they tend to move our Ezekiel bread around in the freezer section. Another suggestion might be to split your loaf into sections when you get home and freeze it that way - so, maybe put 5 slices in a zip lock bag - then each week, take a bag out of the freezer, place in the refrigerator to eat for the week. It was thaw out but still be fresh and you’ll have it in smaller amounts.
