Shocking how tough and effective body weight suspension training can be, lol. My arms routinely get trashed by the Trx lwork I do!
MNK, I don’t believe that your iron arms can be trashed!
Yup, it is confirmed: a Costco trip is 2,000 steps. Getting the stuff from the car and into the appropriate storage places is additional 500. That’s as many steps as I walked all day in the office! (My commute is the bulk of my daily step count). Conclusion: shopping at Costco is beneficial for one’s health.
BB, every time I do multiple sets of standing pronated tricep extensions and supinated extensions, the next day I develop the best case of DOMS in my triceps. It’s exquisite, lol. Then when I add in some sets of table position curls followed by oblique 1 arm curls, I’m just a mess :). I really am such a fan of TRX and other suspension training for so many reasons.
Romani - I have a friend with rheumatoid arthritis and she finds water aerobics very helpful in managing her symptoms, fwiw.
Had my annual tune-up at the doctor’s yesterday - need blood work which I hope isn’t going to be as awful as Romani’s sounds! Finally tapering off some meds which he thinks are responsible for my weight difficulties, but wants to be sure it’s not a thyroid issue. We had an interesting discussion about stress, cortisol production and weight gain.
I am headed back to the office today - I must say it is much easier to relax and get all my steps in as well as the exercise I want to do when one isn’t working! I really envy PG right now! Barre was fun and challenging last night - we used resistance bands looped around the barre instead of hand weights - this seems to be a better fit for me. It is difficult to do these classes and run on the same days - I’ll have to figure this out.
@fireandrain, glad you’re finally able to get out and enjoy DC. The weather has truly been miserable. D lives in the city and I always have a hard time with food when we’re visiting! So many wonderful places to enjoy.
Bunsen - lol, I always plan my CostCo trips for the afternoons following my long runs. It’s a nice, easy recovery stroll & I can kind of lean on the cart & take my time. If CostCo only knew how they were contributing to people’s fitness!
Two yoga classes yesterday. Starting to do more yoga to get ready for my yoga retreat.
CB3: new puppy is adoreable but a whole lot of work–I had forgotten how much attention a puppy requires. The good news is walking her is great for adding to my step count.
I was going to mention how convenient the Fitbit food tracker is! I was curious after Bunsen mentioned it. I wanted to start logging food again but didn’t want to go back and forth with MFP. Very easy to use on the mobile - and they seem to have a very large database.
I have the Racing Weight book and “Quick Start” guide - I am going to look into the cookbook. Sabapup is on a diet - she has put on some weight. As our wonderful vet pointed out, she’s not feeding herself!
Sabaray, a lot of the recipes are posted on Matt Fitzerald’s site. The book is definitely not for a gourmet cook - the recipes are quick and easy. Lots of quick throw together kind of meals, so for a foodie this would be a disappointment.
Are you sure that Sabapup is not feeding herself - out of Sabadog’s dish? That’s what our fatso cat did! The problem was solved when we got 3 Lusmos, put them in different spots, and timed them to deliver kibble at the exact same time. Because the cats eat with similar speeds, by the time the white cat is done, the others are finished with their food, so there is no kibble to steal. I give them wet food in the evening when I can watch them.
^^Haha Sabapup’s vet! - can’t deny that!!!
I too like the Fitbit food tracker. I haven’t been religious about it, but have liked what I have used.
My cold is in decent full force today - stuffy, runny business. Weirdly, when I have a cold the old adage seems to fit me - “feed a cold…” - I sometimes find myself really hungry when I have a cold! Was reading an article this morning about 7 (?) foods to feed a cold - I think I had at least 3 of them in my breakfast - yogurt, honey and…almonds (weirdly!). Will aim for steps (walk to the kleenex box and back!) and maybe some weight work at home tonight.
Set a new Fitbit personal record yesterday - 80 floors climbed. I was reading a very boring book, and to make it more exciting, I got up every 15 minutes and did some running up the stairs and back.
I’ll check the site then, BB - I am in need of some quick meals! I probably need to quit being such a foodie! Abasket, I hope you feel better as the day goes on.
I am positive Sabapup isn’t eating from Sabadog’s bowl - at breakfast time he is finished with his by the time she meanders in from the yard and he gets his bowl first at dinner - so he’s done first and hovering at hers for any leftovers (which there never are). I am the guilty party when it comes to treating. I use them for training purposes, and I need to go to a lower calorie form of reward. For Sabadog I used leftover steak and chicken - I think I need to back to that. She gets tons of activity, but I think like most women her surgically induced menopause hasn’t done her any favors in the weight department!
Feel better soon, abasket! Colds stink.
I feel horrible from my cold. I couldn’t even get up to run this morning. I’ll do at least the streak mile this afternoon, but I sure don’t feel like it. I hate colds.
Ouch, MOfWC. I hate colds, too. With a passion, because when I was younger, I would get lingering coughs - for weeks on end! Hang in there. Sending you virtual chicken soup.
Tory Burch is killing me with her emails! I really like the Splash leggings - but the price is… yikes.
Yikes indeed to the leggings price! They’re really snazzy.
Here’s an interesting article from the NYT blogs on exercise and the brain: http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2016/02/17/which-type-of-exercise-is-best-for-the-brain/?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=story-heading&module=mini-moth®ion=top-stories-below&WT.nav=top-stories-below&_r=0
The WSJ had a review of the newest Fitbit Blaze this morning, too. Darn, I can’t link. Did anyone else see it?
I ran my longest distance ever this morning: 9 miles. My pace was snail like (12 min mile) to keep my heart rate from going up too high. I think the longer running time was really tiring though. My legs and ankles are fatigued. I tried to think about landing lightly, running on eggshells, but I definitely felt like a bit of a plod at the end. I have even more respect for you distance runners!
I hit 300 miles (dedicated run and walk) in the 2016 challenge today.
Wow,Plantmom. Great run and that’s not a bad pace at all!
Bunsen- love those leggings but even I won’t pay 160 for leggings. Geez! Maybe there will be a sale.
I think I’m going to go to the walk-in clinic with this cold. Everyone seems to think this particular bug is a tough one and antibiotics may be needed.
I read that review yesterday about the Blaze v Apple Watch but don’t see it now.
Congrats, PlantMom! 9 miles is a long run!!! If you think about longer distances, you might want to think about adding some fuel during your runs. MOfWC-endorsed Huma gels are awesome.
I bookmarked the leggings and will wait for a sale, but even at 50% off they will be almost as expensive as my most expensive pair from Lulu!
I’m pretty sure I have tendinitis in my foot. Hurts like crazy to even walk today. I think I did it skiing Saturday on an in groomed trail. Might not be doing much until this stops hurting so much.
