Over 20,000 steps in the books! Weights from 8-9 am, then 2 solid hours walking at a fast clip with my friend (we picked up smoothies for lunch and walked and talked, versus sitting), then did the Shred class. It was chilly here in Chicago (low forties) and somewhat cloudy, but with warm clothing, ear muffs and gloves we were fine.
Gained a pound in WW though and am really aggravated!
BB, it is entirely possible that the stress is causing the heart issues. My PCP wants me to keep a food, medicine, and movement/exercise diary for a week to see if there is any correlation between that and when my heart acts up.
On the bathroom use: years ago (1981, I think), I lived on the Boston Marathon route, about 1.2 miles from the finish. Sitting on the front stoop, watching the race, a very attractive guy staggered out of the crowd, asked to use the bathroom. I took him up to my apartment. He used it, then walked out and literally collapsed into my arms with leg cramps. He lay on my couch for over an hour before he was able to stand up and leave. He promised he’d come back and take me to dinner–and I never saw him again.
Since I’m still nursing my trip-slip-and-didn’t-fall strained muscles (ran a little less than 3 miles yesterday and didn’t start hurting until I was about a quarter mile from home, so walked the last bit), DH and I went for a bike ride today, the twelve-mile loop around Sauvie Island (an island in the Columbia River, west of Portland), which is flat-flat-flat. Total elevation gain of 25 feet My fastest circuit of the island to date at 15.1 mph. Muscles are tired but NOT sore; I feel like I won something!
Congrats and way to go to all the racers today - MOWC if you got a certificate for winning your age group what did the participants get - a pat on the back?! Knowing it’s not all about the prize, but none the less, you can get coffee mugs or something for a few bucks!
Busy day of this and that - trying to prepare ahead for Easter next weekend at my house. It was COLD today - high of about 37. Still got about 15,000 steps in throughout the day and through 2 pup walks and then did 30 minutes of strength training - with the required 60 push ups (20-20-20) and a zillion squats!
22000 steps. Also, I have my 2nd longest streak. I’m at 259 days. I thought my 2nd longest streak had been 270, but it was 243.
This was a small 5k/10k with cotton shirts and nothing else unless you were an overall winner and you got a plaque.
Fingers crossed for my son who is doing Half Ironman Puerto Rico tomorrow. The bike course has horrific winds and the run is going to be brutally hot. It’s a big race. It looks gorgeous from the pictures, though.
Congrats on your age group win, MOWC! And best of luck to the wild child today. Sounds very challenging.
Yesterday was not great for me timewise but it was great because I feel good about running and races again. The last race I had done (in April 2015, no less) was a terrible half that I thought was never going to end - to review, cold, sleet pellets, Nyquil - you get the general idea. Yesterday was a hilly ten miler that is notorious for being a tough course.
It was cold and windy from the start. I was running “with” four other ladies - one who is an incredible runner and the other three are my age but have been training a lot harder than I had, so I fully expected to be running alone - which I wasn’t looking forward to. I really thought about not starting but then said - self, don’t be stupid! No one expects you to be great. Just get out there - so I did.
Close to mile 2 I passed two young women who I chatted briefly with. A bit after mile 3 I slowed and walked with a young woman who was obviously limping with knee pain. I kept going. Around mile 6, when the tougher half of the course started, I was running a bit ahead of the two young women and we kept encouraging each other. Mile 9 was my undoing - a long, gradual uphill mile. I need to work on those. Close to the finish, my incredible friends came back to run me to the finish and get me through the last uphill portion. My younger buddies were a bit ahead of me, which only matters because results were on gun time. I beat them on chip time though - they were 24.
So, I feel good today. I drank too much water yesterday before the start, so I had some stomach sloshing but no bathroom emergencies. We had a great time and I was reminded what running is all about. @C3Baker, I love what you’re doing. And I know your marathon will be awesome.
That sounds like a great result, sabaray. You executed the race well and you didn’t hate it! That’s a big win. It sounds really hard. Hills in a race are SO hard because you are already pushing!
Thanks, everyone. Looks like he had a good swim and was 1st in his age group out of the water. His first bike split was good and the second one wasn’t. I hope he’s OK and didn’t have a flat or something. He dropped from 25 miles an hour to 20 miles an hour in that next segment. Waiting for the next split. It is a huge race with the majority from South America, my husband said.
This is so much worse than racing myself! He did have a flat, but he came in first (age group) on the bike so he’s still winning. My husband said he looks really good starting the run. Overheating is going to be the problem.
Was putting groceries away and noticed my FitBit was gone. Have searched all over the house, retraced steps, went back up to the Giant, etc. Bummer. Hopefully it turns up.
On a better note, my 2 hour Yoga for Runners class is this afternoon. I will see how it goes and if I am up to it I will stay for the Sunday yin class.
WildChild is still listed as first. The run splits aren’t updating. I think 2nd would be fine. Half Worlds are in Australia and I doubt he would be able to go- for many reasons, so qualifying isn’t that big of a deal.
He’s finished! The site isn’t updating but we think he was 2nd. He said the run was the worst thing he’s ever done. He ran the half in 1:35. In St. Croix 2013 he ran 10 minutes faster, but he had more heat acclimation. H says he seems in pretty good spirits and is getting a massage… The age group winner ran a 1:27, but he’s from Costa Rico and trained in the heat. I’m really proud of him and relieved that it’s over- and that he didn’t quit.
