Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Awesome! Being in good spirits is a great sign! The site finally updated.

1:38 half. I’m so happy for him. He needed this.

Congrats to WC!

Congrats!!! Awesome job. I am amazed how he could do it! Heat, injury, bike issues! What a nice race.

Sabaray - Glad you beat the youngsters. Remember you can always throw an elbow!

MOWC - it’s always worse watching your kids run. I think you experience their pain.

That’s fantastic, MOWC!

FitBit found. Download an app called Light Blue (?) and tracked it into a kitchen cabinet where it fell off this morning when I was reaching for a K Cup.

Glad you found it, FallGirl! That’s a great idea about the App.

Wonderful news on WC’s race!

And the found Fitbit!

Trying to talk myself into going out for some pavement time. Ugh. It is sunny but only 39 - come on, it’s spring now!!!

Whoa. Just read about the app - how did know to find it? Did you have to put in your serial number or something?

H just googled “how to find a FitBit”. Also he said there was something about it on the FitBit website.

Congrats to the weekend race finishers: C3B, sabaray, MoWC, and WC!

We were supposed to go to the PGA tournament yesterday at Bay Hill, but weather and resulting tee-time changes washed out our plans. I did miles of walking outside instead, and ran 6.4 on the treadmill today.

I had to fill out a health assessment for the work place providing our insurance. I was dinged for being underweight (I am not) and having had stress in my life this year…I am out of their weight range guidelines by a few pounds and they have recommended I see my doctor for dietary advice. I can’t control the event that induced stress. Very unhelpful as a whole.

Oooh, I am not crazy about my employer knowing every detail about my health. If I had to go through that with an employer, I’d be totally burnt toast. Color me suspicious of an employer’s motives. It’s one thing for the insurance company to know, it’s another for HR to know, unless it’s something that directly affects my job performance.

There are so many things that can trigger major life stress that are out of our personal control!

Yet another reason why tying insurance to our place of employment is an absolutely ridiculous way to go about things.

I’m lucky that my employer is accommodating, but would many other employers really want to promote someone like me with two autoimmune diseases and who could potentially need a lot of time off with no warning? (On the other hand, I could never have another flare for the rest of my life…)

Nuh uh, no thanks.

Congratulations on everyone’s racing news. Especially MOWC’s child!

This has been a horrible weekend for me. Yesterday and today I’m basically bedridden. My entire body is just screaming at me and of course, no pain pills really work. It’s not even my joints… it’s my muscles. It feels like I swam a marathon when I haven’t even walked 1,000 steps in several days.

I’ve contemplated going to the ER but I’m pretty sure all they’re going to do for me is giving me more useless pain meds and send me home. It seems like a waste of a trip.

I’m just frustrated. I’ve slept probably 40 hours this weekend and still feel exhausted. Luckily, I only have class tomorrow and then I’m off again until Thursday. I probably wouldn’t even go to class tomorrow except that we’re discussing colonial medicine in my time period and geographic region of specialty and I’ll be darned if I’m going to miss that!

Romani, I wish I had advice for you! Is there a support group (in person) that might be of benefit for you? I mean besides us.

Plantmom, is it possible that your increase in miles has also made you lose weight? You have upped your miles quite a bit it seems - and it seems you were pretty small to begin with. Maybe with the increased miles you should increase some calories???

3.5 done and I shouldn’t have whined about the weather cause even though it was only 39 it was sunny and calm. I dressed too warm but enjoyed it. SO love the sun being around later!

Romani- sorry you had such a bad weekend. This is just terrible for you!

I just had bloodwork and weight/height etc for life insurance (not through work). The nurse came to my house. I got the highest rating. I was anxious to see the lab results, and they came in the mail Saturday from Mass Mutual. BUT- they sent me my 2012 results! So now I have to call them. Ugh.

@abasket I have great support here but they’re all very worried about me so I vent on here. They know I’m in pain, and they know the extent of it, but there’s nothing anyone can do and all talking about it does is make them more worried :frowning:

There is also an IRL support group for Lupus a few miles from me that meets the 4th Wednesday of every month… so Wednesday will be my first meeting (I was diagnosed two days after last month’s meeting).

Unfortunately, the treatments are just slow. I just have to sit and be patient. But I’m not a patient person.

One day though, this will all just be a bad memory

Great to know there is a meeting. I hope you find it helpful!

Ran 4 miles today and still was a 1000 steps short of 10k. Put my Garmin on my active 5 year old nephew and got my extra 1k in 5 minutes.

You’re too funny, ohio.

Romani, I’m sorry too you’re having such a tough time. I’m glad you will have a support group.

abasket, my weight has been about the same for the past four or five years, plus or minus 2-3 pounds. Admittedly I’m on the slightly lower side right now with the increased mileage, but it’s a good weight for me. I think the questionnaire I filled out is just dated. Of the few questions on my diet and nutrition, for example, it asked how many fibrous fruits, vegetables, and whole grain food items I eat each day (I chose the highest at greater than 6), but followed up with how many fatty, high cholesterol foods, like eggs, I consume. Argh. I think eggs have been released from the dietary doghouse for some time now! In the same line, I suspect they’re using a BMI metric that doesn’t account well for body type. H and I were discussing this over dinner. He thinks that most people find this helpful, and that I’m way more educated on nutrition science than the average participant. (Of course, being a long time member of this CC group this is true!) We go along with it because they (large company x) provide a decent financial incentive to take preventative measures to maximize health and fitness, especially if one’s BP, BMI, and cholesterol counts are above the expected range. Since my numbers were all great, except for the weight, I don’t need to do anything–I qualify for all the incentives–but they claim they want to “help me” become the healthiest person I can be. It’s just an annoyance. And I’m sure my doctor would be pretty amused if I came in for a consult on nutrition and weight gain!

Congrats to your son, MOWC. Great race, particularly given all the impediments to training he had to cope with.
