Hey! I’ve done Pilates for years and I’ve not grown! What’s your secret
Age? Who’s ageing? Not me!
My posture was so poor previously that anything would have been an improvement. I was one of those women who slumped to minimize her bust and my back was really weak. My doctor’s office measures your weight at each visit, but height every six months.I do one private a week (and have consistently for a year) supplemented with three or more classes each week. I really enjoy it. Before I hated mat - but the studio I go to has so many new challenges and it is never the same . So while there are times I think, gosh I’d love to try that, I’ve come to realize that I don’t bounce back as quickly as I used to and frankly, I’d rather excel at something (Pilates) than try to do everything under the sun and just be exhausted. So while Barre is fun, it is hard and I just can’t do that, Pilates AND run.
Wow, I need to look into Pilates! I lost an inch of height in the past years, and I am convinced it is exactly why I lost it - I have been slouching and slumping under the weight impact of the top part of my chest. I can really do away with those things, 'cause they served their purpose. Dudes have it easier in that department.
I am shocked, shocked that my illness was so short lived. I am not 100% but back to life with no bacterial aftermath. Everyone around me in the office has had it in the worst possible way. Let your kids eat dirt and ride public transit, they will be inoculated against many nasties. Gorgeous morning… Hills, here I come!
Glad you are better, Bunsen! That really was short-lived!
Doggie did well overnight. No issues. She’s pretty chill. I wish I could have stayed home with her today. It’s strange looking around and seeing TWO Golden Retrievers in my house, though!
Glad you’re feeling better, BB.
Nothing new here. Got a steroid injection for the pain and have to stay on prednisone for about another month until we can figure out whether the treatments are working.
Rheum said the Orencia is supposed to work very well but it’s painfully slow. If it doesn’t work or doesn’t work well enough, my next step is a chemo.
I’m kyphotic which is a fancy way of saying I slouch!
I agree with you on barre. I will do it occasionally but I’m not convinced all the tippy-toe stuff is worth the effort.
There you go, helping me build my vocabulary again!
I think barre is good if you are super-fit to begin with and really just looking for the tiniest improvements. I’m looking for major improvements!
From Yahoo Finance:
"Fitbit (FIT) – Demand for Fitbit’s two new devices is boosting the stock. The company announced it has shipped more than 1 million Fitbit Blaze smartwatch devices and more than 1 million Fitbit Alta wristbands in the first month. "
I SO wish I could exchange my Charge HR for an Alta.
You should contact them after all the problems you’ve had, abasket, and see if you can make a switch. I think they want happy customers!
I thought about that - I figured maybe if I log in a few more actual calls with them maybe they will consider. It’s only about 6 months old! Is the only thing you loose with an Alta the stair counts???
I wish I could exchange my HR Charge for a Blaze! I’ve been having a lot of issues, too (I haven’t discussed the half of them here – the heart rate monitor and step count can be so inaccurate). I asked about that – was told that after 45 days, no returns, exchanges, etc. Fitbit actually did send me a new HR Charge after I complained – although the problems persist.
For example – the other day I used a treadmill at a walking speed, and it recorded my heart rate at between 190 and 200 the entire time. Trust me, that’s wrong – it doesn’t get that high when I’m running (I think my max is high 160s, maybe low 170s). I could have carried on a conversation with no problem. The calorie expenditure for that treadmill walk was extremely high and made the whole day off kilter.
There are times when I feel like going back to the Fitbit that I clipped onto my bra.
I need to look up the differences between Blaze and Alta - I just love the look of the Alta - but then I’ll get my hopes up!
abasket- I bet you would stand a good chance of them letting you upgrade. Maybe just pay the difference. Yes, you lose the stairs, but otherwise it’s great. I like that you can swap out the bands, too. The clasp is a little hard to work, but it’s very secure.
Storming this morning and this evening, so two treadmill runs today. 157 miles for the month, which is good.
Glad you’re feeling better, BB! And happy your new girl slept through the night, MoWC. Sabaray, good job! I didn’t think we could gain any more height, now. I’ve always been a sloucher–I think I’ve tried to diminish my height, subconsciously. I figured it was all down at this point so there’s hope. Think up, I suppose, modeling Downton Abbey/Sabaray posture
romani, gout is the pits, according to the people I know who’ve had it. Hope you get some relief from all of the pain and symptoms, soon.
I had a walking day for exercise, both early this morning and tonight. We hit 90 degrees again today. I’m not ready for this, already. The insects were really a nuisance tonight, too. It doesn’t help to think about all of the mosquito borne illnesses circulating out there. Anyway, I’ll get to 20000 steps for the day: success!
Oh yeah, the Rheum said gout was basically unheard of for a woman my age but he ordered the blood work anyway to make sure. It wouldn’t be the first time my body has defied the odds
Thought about an off day but headed to the club instead. 5 treadmill miles. 8:30/8:00/7:30/7:00/6:30. Last 400 in :75. Always feel great after a good hard run.
Forgot to report in yesterday – early morning long walk with the pup here at the beach; gorgeous sunrise! In the afternoon I headed over to the golf club and spent quite a while at the driving range. I’m sore today, but in a good way. I’m psyched for the golf season!
This morning it’s raining and incredibly foggy. Will hopefully get out with the pup later, in between showers.
I’ve never done pilates, but the possibility of gaining an inch is tempting!
I’m also sort of lusting after a Fitbit Alta, but I really have no excuse since my Charge HR seems to be working just fine.
I had a good workout at the gym last night with my trainer and a nice 3.1 mile run this morning with Back on My Feet. It was a pretty slow pace and that’s kind of nice once in awhile. Especially since tomorrow will be a long run.
I really love my new Fitbit Blaze. I’m hoping they don’t come out with a new model next year because we seem to fall for upgrading to new models. Started out with the Force, then got the Surge in January 2015, and now the Blaze in March 2016. I’ve been happy with all of them, so no complaints. I still use the Surge for running, the Blaze works fine syncing with my phone for GPS to map runs but I like the convenience of the built-in GPS on the Surge. And the Surge is ugly so I don’t care if it gets sweaty and gross on a run. The Blaze really looks nice, especially in comparison!
Plantmom - those temperatures sound like a dream to me, but ugghh on the mosquitos!
