Bunsen- did you get your new Hokas?

Oh!! Totally forgot to report about the shoes - they arrived on Tue when I was dog-sick! I wore them around the house and liked them; hope to go for a real run in them tonight and to report more. The yellow is not really canary yellow though - it is more like fluorescent greenish-yellow, like those highlighters that are neither green nor yellow. The paper tag on the shoe said to expect some color transfer. That’s the first time I’ve seen something like that on a shoe! I now see that there is a men’s shoe in pretty blue… Shoulda bought that one, but I am happy with the yellow, too. Life is too short for boring shoes.

For anyone who is not a Hoka fan, Brooks has an interesting new shoe that is more “normal”. It’s called the Neuro and seems to be well-received. http://www.brooksrunning.com/en_us/neuro-womens-running-shoes/120202.html?dwvar_120202_color=460&dwvar_120202_width=B#q=Neuro&simplesearch=Go&start=2

A funny Fitbit moment this morning! I went downstairs to fix breakfast and realized that I left my Fitbit charging in the bedroom. I sent Mr. up the stairs to fetch it for me so (1) he got a “floor” and (2) I did not miss registering my steps and a “floor.”

Are these the Vanquish 2? I might have to try these. I definitely don’t have enough shoes at the moment.

Circuit class this morning - the kickoff of a 30 day challenge at the studio. I’m going to try and do 30 sessions this month. And run. I like having a challenge. This will certainly present one!

Yes, they are. There is Vanquish in blue colors on sale at REI, too. I bought a pair 5 min ago for the heck of it - to use my 20% off deal. They came down from $125 to $99 plus the inevitable tax.

Score. I still have my rewards to use as well!

Plus, it is REI - if you don’t like them, take them back!

That’s a good deal, Bunsen. I like having lots of shoes…

Love the color of that last one! I just don’t know if I can do the high sole - I might fall!!! Plus, I don’t do long distances so not sure it’s necessary…BUT I do need a new pair of shoes!

I’ve been painting non-stop - well painting and painting PREP (which is really what takes forever!) - painting my dining room that has an enormous amount of trim - a wide entry to the foyer, chair rail, wide floor moldings, french doors, windows - yikes - it’s going to take me FOREVER! I moved my fitbit off my wrist and onto the bra strap  so my hand movements are not being recorded. DId manage to still get in 12,000 steps yesterday - I think I’ll be Cinderellaing tonight! Love my old house - but all this “character” is a lot of work!

abasket, I need you to come to my house. I could use the help!

I saw Bunsen’s April Fools thread - didn’t know if everyone over there would appreciate this:

Question for those who have had steroid (cortisone) shots in their joints: is it supposed to be pretty tender for the first day or two? I know it’s for pain relief but is it supposed to be pretty immediate or does it take a bit? My toe actually hurts more now than it did before the shot :frowning:

I’m actually feeling pretty good today, but I’m learning my lesson. I’m going to be productive as I’m pretty behind in work but I’m also going to try to do a little on our stationary bike if my foot starts feeling better.

The cortisone injections are a mixed bag. Usually the immediate relief is from the numbing agent they put in to make the shot hurt less. It is not unusual to be quite sore for a day or two after the shot. I have running friends who swear the shots don’t do any good, and others who swear by them. I think one problem is getting the steroid in the exact right place. That’s where the epidural x-ray guided shots help.

Thanks, MOWC. This is my first one so I had no idea what to expect.

Romani–my MIL had rheumatoid arthritis. She took two drugs–corticosteroids (prednisone) and another drug ,Methotrexate (which is in a different family of drugs). As I recall, it would take her a day or so after visiting her rheumatologist for her to get some relief. My understanding of RA is that it take a bit of time to get the right combination of drugs to find relief.

Long walk today (5 miles). It’s in the 50s so I figured I’d get my long walk in before the weather changes. It’s supposed to snow on Sunday in the Boston area. Also spent an hour cleaning garden beds-which resulted in more steps the I thought (on Fitbit) Worked with my trainer yesterday.

Both times I had cortisone shots (knees) the effect was immediate. I had full range of motion. I haven’t had one in over two years. My sports med doc reluctantly gave me the last one before the last senior games. He didn’t like giving more than one a year. I know that they aren’t good over time. That’s why I have a heavy core/hip/flexibility regimen that has really helped my arthritic and cranky knees. Don’t feel the need to run in the knee braces that Bunsen recommend a few years back.

@Bromfield2 that is correct about the med combo… it’s a balancing act (plus I can’t take things like Humira because of my Lupus). I’ve been on Prednisone for about 2 months now and it’s provided some relief but not as much as we would like… I want to get off of it ASAP. I just did bloodwork yesterday that will tell me whether or not my time with prednisone can come to a quicker end (or if I have to wait it out another 2 months).

I’m on a different immunosuppressant now but Methotrexate is my next step if this one doesn’t work.

@ohiopublic don’t worry… I really don’t see myself ever running again… at least not for a VERY long time. But I do hope to swim again SOON!

Total eating fail today. I am taking over a new group at work and they arrived into their new work area outside of my office with donuts AND a cake. I didn’t resist.

"What’s so confounding to me about these symptoms is that I certainly have some of them every now and then. Back pain. Clammy sweats. Sleep disturbances. Indigestion. If I called 911 every time one of those happened … Just a couple months ago I was nauseous because of the Vitamin D I was taking – it never occurred to me that I could have been having a heart attack.

Her death is heart wrenching, but I wanted to spread the word on the symptoms to look out for."

@fireandrain, with all those indicators, have you had your heart checked out thoroughly? Do you know for certain that you haven’t had mild heart attacks? If there are several of these happening at the same time, that would worry me if it wasn’t traced to something else. I didn’t read that you’d had this investigated.

Man, a donut sounds good right now…

Romaini, make sure you research Methotrexate real well - especially with any other meds you’re taking - hopefully your docs will choose wisely for you but that is one I hear (and know a friend who is taking it) that can have lots of adverse effects. I know sometimes there is no perfect choice but…

Well, painted my day away, met S and FDIL at a new Lebanese restaurant that had STELLAR tabbouli among other things including fresh puffed pita that they bake in a stone oven on site and serve piping hot. Got home right at dusk - my favorite time to run - and quick got 2 miles in - couldn’t pass up the opportunity! That plus the 25 minute strength training video with oodles of push ups and squats - should sleep good tonight!!
