My recurring issue with shoes is not enough height room in the toebox! I abandoned Altras which were plenty wide but too flat for my rolly polly toes.
I have the opposite problem with shoe uppers, sabaray. I need to toss a few pairs because they have too much mileage on them, but the uppers still look almost new. They are Hokas and Brooks Pure in darker colors. I hate throwing out things that look useful, but I already have a ton of garden shoes.
Sabaray, I can put a hole through the toes of my walking sneakers within three weeks. I have to be able to move my toes. Can’t wear mesh shoes as a result. Anyone have suggestions for sturdier-toed shoes?
CD, have you considered hiking shoe brands? Columbia, Merrell, Hoka hikers. They have to have sturdy toe area! I just checked my Merrell hikers - the toes are not mesh, they are reinforced. Plus, the hikers come in neutral colors and it makes them easy maintenance. I just throw mine in the washing machine, and they look like new.
After having waited 11 days for the MRI approval, I was finally told yesterday that it was denied. Doctor’s office is appealing it. Doctor needs the imaging to see what’s wrong before recommending further treatment for my low back pain.
I guess it is normal for MRI to be denied by insurance companies in some cases. Maybe HMO’s are worse than BCBS, I am think of switching to BCBS next year, at least get rid of the annoying referral requirement.
I am sure doctor’s office will know how to appeal it, but what if they deny it again? What a pain.
I had a good 5.5 mile run last night on some real hills. No running planned for the next couple days. I like the taper!
Romani - I think the journal will be very helpful for you as time goes on. By the time you record all of the really great suggestions you’ve been given, you’re going to have a pretty comprehensive record of everything! It’s all good data, I just hope you’re able to stay ahead of it and keep doing it regularly to get the benefit of the data.
Hopeful820 - I hope the appeal goes through successfully. What a hassle!
Hopeful, fingers crossed. I was denied emergency CT scan - when I was about to keel over from an abscessed kidney! I guess it is the SOP now. See if the patient goes away… I did not. So Aetna paid. Keep appealing!
Bunsen, that’s awful! Glad you fought back. Good luck Hopeful820. My former doctor (early retired, sad sigh) became very proficient in anticipating and dealing with insurance denials. If fact, I think his frustration with the bureaucracy were probably responsible in part for his early departure.
I have high arches and problems with my right big toe striking the upper of my shoe too, sabaray. I also get blisters sometimes on the big toe, or the tall toe next to it. Overall though, I’m pretty happy with my shoes- I’m wearing an old style (and color) of Brooks Ghosts I order online and I dread the day I can no longer find them. I do not like change in my shoe fit!
I walked this morning with my husband. There probably won’t be much time or motivation for other working out today. Tomorrow, though, is supposed to provide another cool-ish start and opportunity for a short run.
I returned to the Pilates circuit class today. It was great - the studio owner taught it. The class was full and we rotated around five different stations. Great workout, lots of variety - everyone had the required experience. Again, I did not find it extremely challenging but that’s okay - I enjoyed the workout. I keep reminding myself that not every workout has to be “all in”!
Pups had their dinner and got a walk, now I need to find something for mine. I am almost ready for a five pound party. Almost.
Moving furniture for 5 hours today and again tomorrow–having vacation home painted. H and I are moving all but the heavy furniture into a storage pod! Lots of steps–20K!! I have the Charge HR and dont think my HR was as high as it registeted while moving furniture–90% of max?? Didnt feel that way.
Wow, that is a lot of work! My HR goes way up when I do heavy lifting, so it is possible you had some spikes without noticing it because your mind was preoccupied with other stuff and you were not trying to carry out a conversation at the time to notice shortness of breath.
Congrats on “almost 5!” Sabaray - I’ll get the noisemakers out just in case.
Lousy weather today. I think we had rain, sleet, hail, wind at some point throughout the day. Finally calmed down this evening - got my dog out for a walk and then decided to take myself out for a run - literally, the minute I walked out the door the drops started - I hung in for a mile but ended up back at home before my devices suffered from the wrath - bummed! Such is April!
Neat, ohio! I see some hefty IP battle brewing… Apple/Samsung style. Who patented what algorithms first etc.
Re: in-game ban. Actually, a wrist band like Charge HR can cause damage to someone’s skin if the wearer bumps into that person. How do I know… Ask Mr. why he does not track his sleep.
I agree! So … Today, did DaVinci and a Pilates reformer class … Then did Fluid Running. Tomorrow I only have time for one thing, weights/strength at 7 am.
I have Keen high ankle hiking shoes (recommended by idad) and I love them – but not for every day walking. Need better sneakers. Guess I’ll see if they have those.
Haha, that Whoop device would give me data overload! It is very intriguing though. The cost, unfortunately, makes it a tough sell except for sponsored athletes and teams. $500 - $5000 per year, depending on what features and analytics you want. I can’t imagine what you get for $5000! But if studies show that tested athletes get an average of 42 minutes more of sleep every night, that alone might make it worth the price :).
