Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Abasket, no I wasn’t there and neither was my son which was probably fortunate for the situation not devolving into chaos. (My son, who is very protective of his sister, is a very formidable jujitsu and MMA competitive fighter and would have done serious damage to the guy. While I’m not in my son’s league, well, even though she’ll be 27 in a week, she’s still my little girl :).) I found out about this through text messaging last night, lol. Even though my immediate instinct was that I wish I had been there to drop the cretin, my daughter handling the situation herself with the support of her co-workers was empowering for her and enhanced her credibility in the workplace. Some of the Facebook posts that alluded to what had happened were pretty funny and commended her take no sh*t stand up for herself refuse to be intimidated attitude. My wife and I always said that my wife’s job was to teach her what it meant to be a strong woman and my job was to teach her to hold men to high standards of behavior. I guess we succeeded :).

Great job, parents. The idiot was lucky neither you nor the big brother were there!..

Last night, I managed to get my 10,000 steps in by putting on my new Lulu bra and shorts and my new Hokas and… doing hill work on the private drive in almost complete darkness. Easy down, all out up the hill! 2 miles total, which was enough to get my step count to 10k. Did I say that it happened one hour after a fancy date dinner with Mr. that included a glass of wine? Mr. OTOH, had no issues with his 10,000 steps - he got them all at the airport running between the gates trying to get on a flight to SeaTac.

BB, you are too funny! I don’t know how you have the discipline and fortitude to do all of that late at night after a dinner date. And I see from some of the time stamps on your posts that you are even more of a vampire than me (assuming there aren’t any time zone shifts on the time stamps).

BTW, I love your avatar photo. We are cat people too. Have 3 Norwegian Forest cats and a Siberian. Not quite sure how that happened but they are like very independent but affectionate and connected kids that still live at home. We all watch television together in our bed at night but they steal the covers!

Bunsen- I would have thrown up! I am really liking the Hoka Vanquish 2s.

Our bike ride activity at this conference got cancelled for this afternoon due to the weather so we diverted to the brewery tour. Besides my run this morning I did get some steps in walking the grounds after my morning sessions.

I love cats, too. 3 in residence and daughter’s 3 Ragdolls arrive tomorrow for a 5 day stay.

All I can say is we had better be done with snow here! Headed out now for a long pup walk. Tonight H & I are having dinner with D, her fiancé and his parents. They flew up from Baltimore. I’ve emailed some with his mother, so I’m sure it will all be fine.

@MichaelNKat - good for your D! She sounds a lot like our D … who also has a very protective brother, younger by 3 years, but someone not to be messed with. (Of course at the moment he’s also half-way around the world in South Korea …)

So much to catch up on! Congrats to CBB on the poem, and way to go for Michael’s D.

Nice weather for the 7-mile run this morning, now clouds & rain are moving in (again) here in SD. Where are you today MOWC? Our run was at Mission Bay & I was following the runners in front of me until I suddenly realized that they were not part of my group & I was off course. Found my way back, but once again a reminder to myself of how oblivious I can be when I run. Way too much going on in my head.

So much stress at work - secret meetings, rumors of layoffs, people sniping at each other. Oh do I need a vacation!

Our winds have finally died down - I spent the afternoon running errands without Mr. Sabaray. I spent some time reading food labels at the grocery as I’m getting pretty bored with my usual foodstuffs. One thing I found at Costco were prepared Frontera carnitas - just heat and eat. I will report back if they are any good or not, but I suspect they will be.

Big discussion this morning on our run that people felt I was not eating enough with all the exercising I am doing. These are women I am close to, so I know it was well intentioned, but I was feeling so good about losing some weight finally! So, will try and up the protein intake.

There is a ton of stuff I want to buy at Lulu but I just can’t do it. Don’t know why - so indecisive!

Awesome, sabaray! I’d love to hear about the carnitas! I just walked by a case of those at Costco.

Sunny and hot today. Trying to pry Mr. out of the lunar chair to go for a walk. He is just enjoying being home after his road adventures, but I do not want another epic Cinderella-like effort to get my steps in!

Michael, I am in the Pacific time zone, just north of Seattle, so my posts are not THAT late.

I’m in Rancho Palos Verdes at a resort called Terranea. We did a brewery tour in Torrance today and last night’s function was on the Queen Mary.

Lol BB, your time stamps were like 3:30 am for me.

Nice, MOWC. That’s a beautiful area!

Michael, sleep is important, just saying. Hope you are not staying so late every night!

Did drag Mr. out of the house for a pleasant brisk walk around the neighborhood. Walking is a good method of tracking the local RE trends! Wow. There was a house that went on the market and sold - all happened within a couple of weeks. Asking price was $770K - eek.

MOfWC, I am liking both my Vanquish and Vanquish 2! They are awesomely cushy. I doctored mine with my Viestrus insoles. I even worn them for my walk without socks - nothing rubbed or pinched my toes or feet. No socks - shocker, I know! I wash my shoes in the washer, so stink is not an issue.

Where is everyone?!!!

Spend much of today finishing up my trim painting and did just get in a Gymbox “extreme cardio” video - which consisted of intervals of squats, weights, push ups and cardio arm and leg work. I could keep up with most of it except have to do cheater push ups (but did my cheater push ups alternating holding one arm out for a few seconds for several reps!). Rainy, wet, cold, blechy outside.

Just got home from California! Short run in the dark, very early morning before my flight home.

I finally ordered some new shoes today - the Nike “Air Zoom” Odyssey. Being the cheapskate that I am, I did not order my preferred color but the color I could tolerate for $55 less! Having not had the best of luck with Hokas in store, I decided against ordering them. We will see how these are.

Nothing but a big walk this morning and TRX/Pilates class this afternoon. Warmer but still windy. The pups have a raccoon, of all things, treed. I’ve never seen one in our yard before - this one looks young. I would like him to move along to someone else’s yard - hopefully he will do that tonight.

For $55 less, I too can tolerate a non-preferred color!

If the raccoon has any brains (and these animals are smart!), he will find a better place to hang out than a yard with dogs.

Let me know how you like those, sabaray! Yes- Rocky Raccoon needs to relocate! My sister just left their Florida house to move back north for the season, but in the last week or so a sweet bunny took up residence in her Florida yard where her 3 Greyhounds run! Not a good idea…

I just want the weather to pick something and stay with it. In talking to some other friends with RA, they’re affected by the weather just like I am. Around here it snows overnight and then rains all day. It’s been like that on and off for a few weeks. I just want it to pick either winter or spring and stick with it lol.

I’ve had a pretty bad few days pain-wise. I’m still trying to get a referral from my PCP to the pain center at U of M but they’re not responding. After the semester is over, I’m going to switch doctors because this is ridiculous.

I’m sticking with my journal though- so far, so good.

I’m really trying to stay positive but I’d be lying if I said this wasn’t taking a toll on me. I can deal with being sick and I can even deal with not finding relief/the right combination of meds. What I can’t deal with is not being listened to and having unresponsive doctors.

But… I see the Lupus doctor in two days and I’m very optimistic

Romani, I hope your referral comes through soon and I am glad you’re sticking with your journal. I hope you’re able to find a more helpful PCP going forward.

Bunsen, the Frontera dinner was fine. It was very easy to prepare and convenient, but I personally don’t find carnitas to be a lot of work since I do them in the crockpot. For a quick meal the Frontera would be a good option to pick up that was relatively healthy.
