Yesterday’s 10 mile race went well. I was a lot faster than I expected to be and felt really good. Even though it was very cold and very windy. H had a really great run also. So that’s a good thing for both of us heading into this last taper week before Saturday’s marathon. Today was a long walk before the rain/sleet began yet again. Monday and Tuesday I’ll be spending many hours in the car driving to/from business meetings. I’ll do a few treadmill miles at the hotel tomorrow night.
Our son ran his first half marathon this morning and did really well! We had fun tracking him during his race. I will admit to feeling a little happy/relieved/smug that he didn’t beat my PR for a half marathon, but he was only about 30 seconds over it. That would not have been nice on his first one!
sabaray - I hope you’re happy with the new shoes when they arrive. No way would I pay an extra $55 for a preferred color!
I’ve been away from this thread for a while because of some health issues, but I feel compelled to express my sympathy about this. Having just waited a week for the insurance company to approve an MRI, I cannot imagine how irked I would be if they had denied it. Presently waiting for approval of an additional MRI, because of a mass visible at the top of the MRI that was just done. My doctor is pretty sure that it is a fibroid, but still it’s a little worrisome when the doctor says “pelvic mass.” I would think the insurance company would move a little quicker this time, but so far it’s been three (business days), and still waiting . . .
That’s a great deal on shoes, Sabaray. And I hope your raccoon moves far, far away. We had one in our attic, once. They’re not fun to get rid of.
Glad you’re back safe and sound, MoWC.
abasket, good job on the trim work and working out!
I ran yesterday morning for 3.5 miles, and have walked a bunch more over the past two days. The H has been away so my weekend, otherwise, has been quiet.
Has anyone here tried goodnessknows bars? They’re similar to KIND bars–nuts, fruits, a little bit of dark chocolate. My husband brought home a few boxes; they call to me, almost like a candy bar.
Those bars sound really good!
Congrats, C3B- and to your husband and son as well! At least your son didn’t beat you in 5K when he was 9 like mine did! I was a really good runner then, too! I got a lot of sh$$t from the running crowd.
Hang in there Romani. It’s like turning a huge cargo ship around- it’s a slow, tedious process. Not inferring that you are a cargo ship :)- just your disease.
Those do sound delicious Plantmom - how to they compare to a KIND bar calories, sugar, etc.???
I’ve actually had several pairs of Nike shoes that I have loved - and I need new shoes, so let me know you thoughts Sabaray! - do you order off a specific site??
Yeah, this weather is for the birds Romani - I wouldn’t doubt that it messes around with your pain. Hoping for a better week ahead for you.
@sabaray - thanks! Good to know about healthy and fast dinner options and that Nike will take back run in shoes!
I made steaks for dinner. One HW assignment is down, two more to go. It is still 9 pm! So… you can guess, I have not moved much. But I have to brag about Mr.! He rode his bike to work today trying to map out the route. Made it back up the GINORMOUS hill of close to 100 Fitbit floors. I am so proud of him!
Leaving today for a chilly Outer Banks vacation! Have rented a beach house and will have a couple of days all to myself before DH arrives Wednesday. D1 and her SO arrive for the weekend.
I plan to rent a bicycle. Supposedly the house I selected is in an area conducive to riding the bike around town. I’m crossing my fingers. Worst case, I’ll take power walks.
I’ve never been to the OB, and I know the weather isn’t going to be the best, but if I do nothing but sit on the balcony or by the window in the living room and look at the ocean while reading books, I’ll still be happy. The house is ocean front (low season good price), so it will be all good.
Enjoy the trip, Nrdsb4. I think looking at the ocean is very good therapy! I did a lot of that this weekend in California (when it wasn’t socked in by clouds). There’s just something about it…
I don’t know yet if I have to fly to Maine mid-day or not. 3.1 miles this morning. I can’t even bring myself to pack so I might have to rush home from work if my trip is a “go”.
@MomofWildChild : Love the Terranea, beautiful place, breathtaking location. Did you run on the grounds? The roads curve so in that area. Gets tricky when you’re not local, and in the dark, too.
@sabaray: Think I’ll try the Nike “Air Zoom,” for a teen who has these awful pains along the top of her feet after running. Have to get her to the doctor, then a specialist if I can’t nip this in the bud. Thanks for that.
Waiting2exhale- I ran a little bit on the grounds, but mainly walked around the grounds. I ran up and out of the resort and then to the north along the packed dirt path next to the highway. I had a headlamp and the path was a good surface. It goes about 3 miles and the road turns more residential. It was rolling hills- no horrific climbs but still challenging. Once it got light the views from the cliff were gorgeous.
It was 3 plus days of completely excessive eating and drinking. It is good to be home and be back into my normal routine. My trip to Maine was cancelled. Disappointed not to see @MaineLonghorn but I’m sure I’ll get to go up there eventually on this case.
Good morning all! I’m headed back to Crankytown (aka work) today - I hope my coworkers had a restorative weekend & will come back in better spirits. DH and I went to see a live theater production of Rocky Horror on Saturday, followed by a sushi dinner - that was a ton of fun & cheered me up considerably.
I’m feeling a bit lazy on the running front lately. I added a weekly track workout & I think it is adding to my fatigue. Last week I was paired with a somewhat younger male triathlete, who was very friendly, but at one point I got the comment - “Hey, you run fast the same as you run slow”. OK, yes, I have one speed. At least I have one!
“It was 3 plus days of completely excessive eating and drinking.” Yes, understood.
I have biked the hills and inclines in SoCal (farther down the coast), and where there were no paths and I had to share the road with the drivers it was often an instance of hoping each driver understood I would like to make it home to my kids that day.
I finally ordered from Lulu. I got the Bunsen and MOWC recommended bra - in the super flashy seven wonders; I ordered a Pace Rival skirt in the same; a what the sport tee in heathered sea mist and some wunder under crops in inkwell. I have to report here because no one else will appreciate it as much as you all! Running gear was looking a bit shabby so I figured if I spruce it up I might run a little faster at my “one” speed.
Glad you don’t have to go to Maine, MOWC, but understand the disappointment. I am also happy to report that Rocky moved on to a more hospitable yard. Or maybe he’s in my attic and I just don’t know it yet!
5.0 miles this morning. I keep thinking I’ll actually enjoy running some day. but that day has yet to arrive. That “hitch” in my gait is bothersome and a tad worrisome. I do enjoy the run when it’s over, though!
Off in search of another pair of pants for “The Trip.” I really dislike how I can find a perfect pair, but when I try on the same style in a different color, they don’t fit! Gr-r-r-r!!!
