I’m tempted to post on that thread that I was pre-diabetic, so I stopped exercising, because that must have caused it…and increased my intake of red wine instead. And now I’m cured!
But somebody might believe me

Precisely, bus. Why wait for that wine to turn into vinegar… drink it while it is still good.
LOL, Busdriver. sabaray- I like the green, too.
The green is not quite the same as on the website - but I do like the way they fit. Now I just need my new Lulu stuff to get here!
I told Mr. Sabaray that for every dollar we spent on medical bills I was spending an equivalent amount on Pilates training and running stuff. He did not think that was funny but I am not amused by a $400 lab bill!
Busdriver, thanks for the laugh! I wish I’d known more red wine was all I needed!
I went and looked. Yikes.
Since getting sick, there have only been two things that have seriously bugged me. One is people who tell me that everything happens for a reason. The other is everyone and their mother telling me about their “natural” remedies. I’m all for trying alternative medicine (medical marijuana has been a godsend) but when people tell me that their friend was cured from their Lupus or arthritis or whatever by a special diet and essential oils, I want to tear my hair out.
With that said, off to get my Holter monitor. The weather is GORGEOUS here and I’m hoping to get out and walk some today. Swimming is off the table until at least Sunday but I can at least enjoy the warm weather (even if I now have to avoid the sun).
Yay to sabaray’s green miles.
$400 lab bill would send me into a deep funk. I would rather spend that on a Lulu outfit with leftover $$, agree!!!
Romani, good luck with the monitor. Hope it will add a valuable piece of information to help solve your medical puzzles.
Good luck to all racers tomorrow!
Tear your hair out? - there’s a natural remedy for that.
Adding my welcome to @khmamma. And welcome back to @notrichenough.
@busdriver11 - impressive step count for 1 day! Don’t think I’ve ever been over 25K – and that was last fall when we were in Spain.
@MomofWildChild - glad your eye is feeling OK. I agree with the others – the procedure sounds horrible.
@abasket - I read about that Gotta Go skirt somewhere; Facebook maybe?
@romanigypsyeyes - glad to hear things are moving forward and you feel there’s now a team behind you. Good luck with the monitor.
OK, of course I had to go look up Post #64 on the Pre-Diabetic thread. All I can say is, “OMG!” There’s a fair amount of diabetes knowledge in our family – H’s father lived with Type 1 for almost 60 years and was the first person in the state of MA to use an insulin pump; H is currently involved with the diabetes program at Mass Memorial as an advisory board member; D did a 3 year Scientific Research course in HS focused on diabetes and spent 1 summer working in the diabetes labs at Yale New Haven Hospital.
50 minutes on the Arc machine this morning + 1mile walking. Pup walk coming up. The buying/deciding/returning continues for our Asia trip. We leave first thing Wednesday morning. Did I mention we’re doing 3 weeks with carry-on luggage?
“@busdriver11 - impressive step count for 1 day! Don’t think I’ve ever been over 25K – and that was last fall when we were in Spain.”
Thanks, CBBBlinker. I’l bet those over 25K step count in Spain were mostly climbing stairs, though. Walking around in Europe seems to involve far more stairs than in the States!
Now my husband is so interested in the Grand Canyon, that he wants us to do a day hike from the North Rim (about 24 miles). I don’t mind that so much, as long as it’s not really hot, and I have better shoes that don’t leave huge blisters. But God forbid, if this goes well, he’s looking for someone to run the rim to rim to rim with him. I don’t object to long distances, however I know for certain that I cannot run very far uphill. Walk fast, but can’t run up hills. I guess that’s what headlamps are for. Or his more athletic male friends!
sabaray, you are so right about the sleep. I’m really burning my candle at both ends. I thought I had things back into a rhythm but suddenly there’s not enough hours in the day! My biggest problem is that I really don’t finish my evening until about 11:00 pm and then unwind until 12:30 or 1:00. But then I wake up at 4:00 a.m. because of all the water I’m consuming in the evening hours and when I return to bed, I’m making the horrible mistake of taking a peek at my ipad. My resolution for next week is to return to an 11:00 lights out and not look at any electronic devices before 7:30 the next morning!!
Romani, good luck with the monitor. Hope you get some useful information. It really sounds like you have made great progress in lining up the right health care professionals.
This weekend is jam packed for me. Saturday morning, I’m leading a relaxed recovery ride for 2 hours or so. Really need it after the time trial training rides I did this week and all the dead lifts and squats I’ve been doing. After the ride, I’m helping to man the BBQ grill at my local bike shop for their beginning of the season weekend sale. I’m doing it as an Honorary member of Sturdy Girls Race Team which is sponsored by the shop. For all you fashionistas out their, I will be modeling my new Sturdy Girls race kit in pink and blue during the ride and after the ride will be changing into the cutest pink girl’s cut Sturdy Girls tee shirt. I can’t wait to see the reactions from the general public lol. Last year, the looks I got were priceless :). Sunday, I have a food tasting for my daughter’s wedding, followed by a BBQ B-Day party for her at her future in-laws. Some time in between all of this, I’m going to open my outdoor playground for the season and hang the cargo net, climbing rope and gymnastics rings. YAY!
You guys didn’t know about the lemon cure for diabetes? I thought everyone knew about that.
Just for kicks I googled “lemons diabetes” and there is a lot of stuff about it, although the vast majority is anecdotal and foke-lore-ish in nature. Anyone who thinks it is a cure is an idiot, and dangerous if they are advising others to do the same.
We don’t take phones or tablets in the bedroom for exactly the problem Michael is having.
My workout shoes are exceedingly unfashionable, as is most of my workout wardrobe. Guess I need to go shopping.
Since I was grounded in Ohio this weekend - though for a good reason - I will be driving D2 back to school tomorrow to the Columbus area where they have lots more shopping choices than we have here…so…hoping to do a little shopping with her tomorrow on our way back - new exercise capris, new athletic shoes NOT for running, new running shoes - all on my list!
The iPhone and the iPad now have a nighttime setting where you can have it have no blue light in the screen. Everything turns orange but it’s theoretically better for sleeping. I’ve been using it. Haven’t noticed any difference in my sleep, but YMMV.
I was feeling smug after a 7 mile long run with the dog yesterday (in my hilly neighborhood park, so I got 86 Fitbit flights!), but this morning I’m so sore-of-knee (symmetrically, and muscle-based) that I’m just planning a short bike ride (have to pick up the car from the shop, so will bike over there and drive back).
We are supposed to get a hot weekend; I planted the tomato starts I bought! I think that’s the earliest ever. We’ll see. Some years we get an early, warm spring; other years the tomatoes sulk until May.
I came across an interesting article on facebook today regarding “farm to table” restaurants. It focused specifically on the Tampa area. “Local” can have many different meanings evidently - and there were some restaurants that just lied about the origins of their food. I’m sure Tampa isn’t unique.

You all might recall (since I whined about it enough) that I had a spectacularly bad half marathon last spring. To add insult to injury, one of the photos of my group is on the website banner (pre-race)- only my face is completely covered by the race’s little symbol! Did I mention I am never, ever doing that race again?
Fun Barre class after work, looking forward to a solo run tomorrow to try out those new shoes.
Great article, sabaray. There aren’t enough farms within 200-mile radius of Seattle to supply all of these places that claim to use only local ingredients.
I have glasses that are amber tinted and reduce blue light. I was skeptical at first but I have noticed a definite difference. I easily spend 15 hours a day looking at screens and no longer have headaches at night and I’ve noticed sleeping better.
Very interesting article sabaray. No doubt the deceptive practices reported on pervade other geographic areas. There is such a paucity of regulatory oversight. I just read an extremely informative article on food labeling standards and FDA and USDA requirements (or lack thereof). I’ll dig it up tomorrow when I have a chance tomorrow after my ride and BBQ grill manning. Would do it tonight but I made some promises that I would go bed by 12:00 ;).
Blood work came back. They show I probably have an infection somewhere (WBC etc high). My CRP (an inflammation marker) is by far the highest it’s ever been but another one (sed rate) is going down. Still waiting on more but I’m really hoping that my doctor doesn’t call on Monday and tell me to quit the prednisone tapering.
It is absolutely beautiful here today. I have windows open everywhere. Going to lather up in sunscreen and go work outside… hopefully the Lupus doesn’t get angry at the sun.
Happy Saturday, everyone!
We had a fun race morning with some of our group here. Pizzagirl and a I ran a 5K, Gertrude, Fireandrain and Plantmom ran 10k and it was Plantmom’s first race ever! We all met up here in Nashville. I really laid it all out there in the 5K for 28:09 and 2nd place Grand Masters. Then I took right off on the 10K (not entered) and did a death march chasing Gertrude- who I did not catch. It was a beautiful day- 58 at the start of the 5K and warming up perhaps a tad too much. My daughter had a 2 minute 10K PR, so she was really happy.
Thanks for the report, MOfWC!!! So happy that everyone had a great time and so sad that I could not join you because of my stupid obligations.
The weather looks gorgeous. Mr. wants to go to work, so here is the plan. We will take his truck and I will run in the business park while he is doing his stuff. Then he will bike home, and I will go to Costco.
