I am always impressed by people who choose to run marathons. I trained for the marathon with a friend back in the late 70s–right up until I got a stress fracture that appeared the day after our 20-mile run. Three weeks off and three weeks to think about what I really enjoyed–which was the shorter races. I love running 5Ks and the mile–“redlining” the whole time and finishing spent, I love that challenge! 10Ks I like–especially trail runs. But longer than that? Not so much.
Congratulations C3Baker on H’s and your own finish! I’m glad your H has rallied and is looking ahead to the next marathon in spite of the disappointment.
Okay, question: how many pairs of inserts should one have for shoes? A pair for each pair of shoes? Or is it reasonable to think they can go from shoe to shoe?
After my short run Saturday in the new shoes, my ankle is a bit sore. The inserts I have been using for the Adrenalines are a no-go. I was thinking of a pair of superfeet simply because I can buy them locally, but have no idea how to select them and don’t want to rely on the “expertise” of the big box SA. I don’t want to drive an hour to the running store, so was hoping to get some suggestions here.
I thought that’s what they told me - glad I wasn’t imagining it. It may be that the shoes just aren’t right for me. Any opinions on the Brooks Transcend? Are they worth the $$?
Re: inserts. I used to move mine but got tired of the “musical inserts” game and got a pair for each shoe (I have 3 pairs at any given time: outdoor, treadmill, and travel). For outdoors, I use the Ed Viesturs inserts that had to be heated and then molded to the shape of the feet. For my treadmill shoes, I use the regular black Superfeet inserts. I have has these inserts since 2011 or so, and they are still ok.
Has anyone used the prescription discount cards available on some manufacturer websites?
The new script they gave me is Lyrica and my copay is $90- by far my most expensive prescription. However on the Lyrica website there is a card that is supposed to take $70 off the prescription. Is that it? It seems like a weird thing so I feel like I’m missing something…
A big yes to those discount cards. Some medications are so pricey that the manufacturers would never build a customer base if they didn’t offer them. I use one for a dermatological medication.
Some research into my running log indicates that this was my fastest 5K since March 2012, so thanks, CCers, for the inspiration! I’ve hovered around it, and I’ve had some setbacks with injuries and the eye stuff, but I’m happy to have an improvement even with getting older!
Unbelievable day today - it hit 85 degrees! So my lunch today was a McDonald’s ice cream cone which I picked while going for a walk around downtown. I do not remember when it was the last time I visited that place, but the soft serve was simply perfect today. We seriously lack ice cream places in Seattle.
Heading out to Sunrise yoga soon but wanted to report on the running group. It was fun! Lots and lots of women were there and I was surprised by how many have done the program once, twice etc before and keep coming back. When we self selected into groups I chose the walk/run group and then put myself in the front (the "A " subgroup) which turned out to be about right for me. We will be increasing the run intervals weekly.
Little trivia I can’t help sharing here. The program is held at a nearby HS and I went back in after the run. Glanced into a trophy case and saw runner Alan Webb’s HS running jersey (I forgot this was his alma mater) in the case. Very cool. Maybe I can channel him when I run
I’m so glad you enjoyed it, FallGirl! I am really looking forward to hearing about your progress - I am so proud of you!
Last night was tough - went to my usual power Pilates class and followed up with Barre. In a way it was good - the Pilates warmed me up for Barre - but it was a long two hours. Almost done with the monthly challenge - only 8 more sessions to go!
