I would have paced out those last 200 too Fireandrain!
Envious of that Central Park run!
I go to Boston for 3 days in a couple of weeks - hoping I can take some short runs (safely) from my hotel - who knows the Boston Westin Waterfront Hotel area???

Wow-30,000!
Just started back up this morning with a weight session after this cold knocked me on my butt. Can’t breathe deeply yet but the cough is under enough control I can be taken out in public! Will be relying on a lot of long walks til I’m fully breathing again!
" Here’s an inspirational story and video about a 100-year-old runner"
Wow, fireandrain, what a story!!! She is amazing. The only thing I don’t like is how she has to eat for nutrition, not pleasure. I’d like to be able to do both, plus, isn’t good chocolate nutritious, also? Unbelievable strength of character. Something to strive for.
Yeah- I forget exactly how it works, but the more you are under the qualifying time, the earlier you get to register and then when it fills up the age group, it’s done. It can vary a little from year to year.
I hope I can do that at 100! Great story. Agree- I want to be eating for pleasure, too.
9 miles done - inspired by sabaray to extend the planned 8.3. Beautiful spring morning 53-58 degrees. Lots of runners were carrying shirts that they had shed, including me. Husband and daughter are out on a long bike ride.
The Westin Waterfront is the other side of town from where I run when I stay in Boston, unfortunately. I bet the hotel has routes, though. Check out this map.

Good job on the steps and what an inspirational story, fireandrain. I want to have that energy and strength at age 100 too! Mental fortitude, running, longevity, and wisdom. Wow.
Glad you’re feeling a little better, PG. The breathing part sounds awful.
Hope your daughter’s race went well, FG!
Wow, that’s a great resource MOWC - thank you! I’ll have to share that resource with my son who also makes a point to venture out running whereever he travels - he’s in Chicago now!
D’s time was 58:27. Her two friends wee close behind her. They are tired but happy!
When I registered, Boston registration first opened to those who were 15 min or more under their age group standard, then on the next date, those 10 min under qualifying time could sign up if there were slots available, etc. I knew I had to be at least 10 min under to get my spot, because it was the year after the bombing.
Before I travel I always Google "running (hotel or city) to see what’s out there. We’ve found some gorgeous rail trails.
FallGirl, that is sooo cool! Congrats to your daughter!
Super job by your daughter and her friends, fallgirl!
9 miles here too this morning. Our group training for the full marathon (not me!) did the “train run” today which is the highlight of every season. They park at the Solana Beach train station, take Amtrak up to Oceanside, then run back along the coast - about 20 miles. Maybe some day I’ll join in - even if I walk a good bit of it.
I ran my 9 miles with a lady who had done Boston earlier in the week - we took it slow on her account & I was secretly happy about that
A funny story related to running. Two days ago, while I was cinderelling to get my last steps in to make it to 5 miles, I got a text from kiddo "what city were u born’ Uh oh. Then, "and dad?’ More uh oh. Then it clicked, and I texted, “Did you lose your passport?” (Kid is stationed overseas). She replied, “Yes, tell u later. Got 30 min to fix it” Uhhh… Okay. Then she disappeared. The next morning, I checked her blog, and surely enough, she posted a hilarious account how her running shoes got her out of a tight situation. She did misplace her passport, and she needed it for travel! The embassy was willing to process the same day replacement as long as she could get her application and photos in within the next hour! Her apartment is not too far from the embassy, so she devised a plan: she dashed home, filled out her papers, put her (mine) Brooks running shoes on, ran to the nearest photo place, got her photos taken (with messy hair from running!), ran to the embassy, and got there with a few minutes to spare. Phew. Brooks to the rescue!
Just woke from a good couch nap after 9.25 miles on the AlterG this morning. I always underestimate how much it takes out of me. I did 4 miles at 5 min pace (70% weight). Heart rate was always under 160 so I’m never really winded, but your legs are still moving at a fast pace so I think that adds to the fatigue. Trying to reduce my weight to 120 (joking!) after I saw that the top 10 finishers at Boston avg. weight was 119 for men (women 100) . I was at 140 today after running, steam and sauna. I weighed 144 starting out so I lost 4 lbs today. I am shooting for 132-134 by June 7.
Not that I’m looking forward to winter but I thought this bike was pretty cool! https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/innovations/wp/2016/04/21/a-swedish-mans-brilliant-solution-for-biking-in-the-worst-weather/?wpmm=1&wpisrc=nl_innov
Interesting application of the concept but not new:

I hear you, Ohio. They are all waifs!
Great- now studies show very little effect on bone density from exercise (adults). So much for helping my bone density issues with all my running.
I saw those studies, MoWC. Honestly, sometimes it’s hard to know what to believe. I do believe that all the exercise is good for balance and core strength, which will prevent falls and help mobility as I age.
@MomofWildChild – I just spent about fifteen minutes on Google Scholar looking at the scientific articles (not the news reports) specifically on osteoporosis in women runners. Honestly, it’s all over the map, but there’s definitely a relationship between bone density and high impact activities. “Exercise” is so vague as to be pretty useless, IMHO. They could mean 30 min 3x/week of curves, or they could mean running 20 miles a week. Who knows? This article http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00198-012-2234-0 looked at masters runners specifically and found good results.
I am very disgruntled today. Had to return another pair of running shoes, and the new ones I got today already are giving me pain. I have bunions and high arches, and have a really hard time finding shoes. I’m actually thinking the pain may be mostly because I walked many miles in San Francisco, hiked the Grand Canyon, and did several longer runs than usual. Been on my feet a lot, and bunions just cause pain, especially with the wrong shoes. Don’t want to have surgery until it gets unbearable.
Maybe a couple of days off. Super Jock and Jill is going to get sick of me returning shoes, but they keep letting you do it.
