Bus, you needs shoes with very stretchy uppers. I do not have bunions (yet, although I have the genes), but my feet flatten out like pancakes after a marathon or training for one. I had good experience with Brooks PureCadence and Hoka Vanquish. Also, have them fit you into men’s shoes if you wear women’s 9 or larger. Men’s shoes are soooo much wider! Someone at Hoka needs to take note of this and came up with a “SpeedDuck” (very wide) shoe for women!!
I blame sabaray. I stopped by LuLu and now have the Align crops AND pants. Crops are black and pants are pink. They feel SO good!
Thanks, Bunsen, will look into those shoes. I am fine with men’s shoes, except sometimes the very wide sizes also are wide around the heel, and then I slip around a lot.
But I’ll read up about those two.
LOL, MOfWC! I went to get a haircut today… Almost bought the crops! They are sooooo soft, but I resisted. Ended up with a LS Silverescent tee for Mr.
Bus, have you used bunion covers?
MOWC, are the sandals you like so much Oofos? And you can blame my D for the crops - she’s the one that got me excited about them! I’m saving mine to try out during Pilates tomorrow. Today is a rest day - other than the obligatory pup walks. I need to channel abasket and get out in the yard and do some work!
Big delivery day at our house - Sabapup and Sabadog got their cardio in barking at each delivery person (and a political canvasser, but we won’t get into that here). My first Plated box arrived and let me tell you, it’s going to be a regular thing here. Beautiful, high quality ingredients - terrific looking produce and fish - a nice recipe card with photos and instructions come with it - our first test meal is going to be today’s lunch - I like a bigger lunch meal on Sunday. Report to follow! My Brooks also arrived and they feel amazing. Test run tomorrow but they feel even better than the Adrenalines.
I am anxious to hear more about the Plated meals, sabaray. H and I have talked about doing his or something similar. He is the main cook, but gets tired of thinking up what to fix all of the time.
Planning to take a long walk today. Possibly some running, too.
Never even heard of bunion covers, Bunsen. I’ll have to look into that. Maybe better than having to cut holes into your shoes!
@MichaelNKat – you recommended a book on body weight strength training but I can’t find the post. Can you repeat, please?
Yes, oofos. They are great for post-run, beach or just kicking around. I have the oofos clogs, too, to wear with socks in the winter. They aren’t gorgeous, but they are light and comfortable and you can just rinse them off.
I need 3.3 miles today for a 37 mile week, but I’m not out the door yet! It’s pretty out, but I’m letting it warm up just a little bit.
Feeling a bit like a truck ran over me today. I did 9 miles with the group yesterday, then immediately hopped in the car for a 6 hour round trip to go to a family party in LA. Lots of traffic - blech. Finally get a real day off today.
I really need to visit the shoe store & get one & maybe even two new pairs. It’s gonna be expensive, but kind of fun!
Here’s a link to the article about the exercise and bone density thing.
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/02/health/exercise-is-not-the-path-to-strong-bones.html?action=click&contentCollection=Health&module=RelatedCoverage®ion=EndOfArticle&pgtype=article&_r=0
I think there are many other benefits for bones/muscles to exercise and it does help with balance and falls, but I also belief this study about the bone density. I get my bone test in a couple of weeks and it will show if the Forteo shots I took for the last 18 months improved my bone density situation.
3.5 miles done. 37.2 mile week. Time to do a slow dog walk around the block.
sabaray, Oofos are amazing. It is the only flip flop style sandal I can wear. They also come in clog and slide on styles. Amazon has plenty! I wear them around the house when my legs are tired or when I have a sore back. I think I can run a race in them, LOL! One note is that they run plenty large, and the fit has to be just right. I wear size 9 shoes, and had to size down to M6/W8 in Oofos flip flops.
Raining like crazy here today. I am so glad that I dragged Mr. B out of the house for a walk last night. I planned on running on the trail today, but it might not happen.
Good job, MOWC - nice mileage!
Thanks for the sizing tip, BB - that was going to be my next question. I’ve been wearing Nike slides but I had to think there were better options out there - and it turns out there are.
Test meal postponed as we are now having dinner with family - that would lead to a food coma, I think. Made a roasted eggplant salad for lunch instead. Roasted eggplant, cilantro, garlic, black olives, feta, tomato, lemon and olive oil. Pups had a big walk this morning, so they’re resting up for their afternoon one.
That salad sounds yummy! That’s what I will make for dinner, thank you for the idea! Lunch will be at a local cafe - meeting the big girl and SIL, finally! The kids have been MIA because of crazy work schedules.
That salad does sound amazing! Too bad I’m the only one in my family who will eat eggplant. I should make it anyway, just for me. I love how eggplant will soak up whatever flavors you add to it, just like a sponge.
Also, I’d like to throw this out there - I have been dealing with some serious extended family issues, involving a lot of negativity. When I come here, it is all positive & I really love having this group of upbeat, interesting & supportive people to interact with daily. Thank you all!
Now back to regular programming…
Gertrude, thank you. One year I made a mistake of going off CC when I was dealing with crushing stress. MOfWC hunted me down and brought me back here. It made a huge difference! When I feel stressed out, I put my running shoes on or grab my dumbbells. The issues do not go away, but I am better equipped to deal with them, thanks to you all.
Ok. Said it. Back to the discussion of diets and exercise plans.
Thanks, Gertrude. I agree. I appreciate the supportiveness and variety of folks/exercisers here.
The winner of the London Marathon today ran 2:03:05 for course record and 2nd fastest marathon ever. I would have been right with him- for a HALF (half for me- full for him!)!
The woman’s winner recovered after a fall at mile 22 to win! Sumgong - 2:22:58. Hit her head on the pavement. Ouch.
Gertrude, the salad will hold for several days. Go for it!
This is a good place to be. I’m glad we’re all here.
