Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

@notrichenough – I just tried a sprint triathlon… It took a long time! I kind of liked it, but I really like the stuff where I have to push really hard for a short time. I’ve never been a fast swimmer. (I was on the swim team in college. I swam 100 m butterfly and 100 m breaststroke… But only if the other team only had one swimmer. Then I came in third.)

@MichaelNKat – I’ve never heard of ventilary threshold. Will look it up.

@dmd77, take a look at my post 51060 for a link to a very good explanation of ventilary threshold and structuring cardio training using it.

So happy that despite being our busy week at work I was able to get to training last night. Our group took a few wrong turns so the walk/run was longer, close to 3.5 rather than 3. Run intervals have been increasing too. Got our program shirts so for the first time in my (almost) 59 years I am actually part of an athletic team. Or at least I think so

On to yoga now…

Heated vinyasa yoga last night after 4 hours of hauling compost and soil to flower beds and then planting peonies. I came home from yoga, took a shower, and feel asleep reading.

Pouring rain around 4:15 this morning woke me up, but by 5:30 the rain had happily stopped so got out for my short little run. Pavement was very wet which makes me very nervous, but no mishaps. Walked the pups for a follow up. Ordered the Garmin 235 in aqua blue and some Zensah sleeves.

I still need one of you to come over and help me with my gardening!

Haha - Sabaray if I could get a handle on my own, I’d LOVE to help with your yard! Between our home that has a large yard, my community garden and our cottage which I keep a small garden I’m feeling swamped! (love to do it, jus need the time!!)

Not to mention all this rain has the weeds very, very happy to grow. Ugh.

One more day… The guts are doing better, but I am not hungry at all. Can’t even look at any food. It is actually not a bad thing.

Mr. got tied up in a meeting, so I walked 3.5 miles to get home. The hill is nothing to sneeze at - close to 50 floors. No wonder we always get snow when the weatherman says “snow accumulation 500 feet above sea level.” 6.5 miles walking total for yesterday.

^ that’s an impressive walk especially when you are not 100%. Glad you are getting better.

Sabaray- can’t help you. I don’t garden:)

Thanks, FallGirl. Walking for me is usually therapeutic, unless something is so painful that it makes me curl into a fetal position.

Sabaray, I would be happy to help! Just let me assess what needs to be done in my garden after being MIA all spring. I think weeding is like war on drugs: we cant win, but any good way to control them is a victory. I have not been victorious this spring!.. I hate weeds with a passion, so my dream is to retire to a place in a desert where they don’t grow… Or to a place where I would not give a hoot about them.

Glad you are feeling better, sabaray. I think you will love the watch, sabaray.

It was thundering and raining when I work up, so I went downstairs to the dreadmill. I managed to do 4 miles with some speedwork. I then had to go get fingerprinted at the sheriff’s office, which is not a happy place. I’m an officer of a subsidiary corporation we have- long story- and it requires fingerprinting for Utah.

Clearly I don’t either! The pups spend so much time outdoors that I really prefer not to spray with chemicals unless absolutely necessary. I think we’re at that point.

Bunsen, glad you are feeling better! I briefly looked the training plan on the Seawheeze page - I might try some of the yoga. Might.

@ohiopublic – thanks for the concept of “junk miles”. I went out for my run today and thought: no junk miles. I did some fast bits and some slow bits and made sure I wasn’t just cruising. Unfortunately, I also tripped over a bump in the sidewalk, scraped myself up a bit without doing any serious damage–but cracked the bezel on my FR 225. What a shame–I guess I’ll just have to get myself the new FR235 I’ve been eyeing.

Ouch, dmd. Glad you are not hurt.

Two thumbs up for Lulu Align crops! They are amazing - wore them all day yesterday (with a long top, of course!), and they felt so good that I forgot I had pants on. I am going to buy the long version, too.

Glad to hear you are feeling better, Bunsen.

dmd77 - Yikes, that must have been a bad fall to crack the bezel. I hope you aren’t too banged up.

I am swamped at work. No exercise yesterday but tonight I will do a few easy miles with the running club. I am nursing blisters from Saturday’s half marathon. These are blisters on top of the blisters I had from the marathon 3 weeks ago.

I got the Align long pants in pink. I haven’t worn them yet, though. The fabric is SO nice and soft!

I like my basement treadmill because I can wear things I probably would not wear outside in public- like the short spandex shorts (not briefs) that I would wear under the running dresses and a skimpier sports bra. I can pretend I’m Kara Goucher!

@MomofWildChild – am I dating myself if I admit to pretending I’m Joan Benoit?

Lol!! Especially if we can pretend that the outside world is watching us run on the treadmill is in slow-mo.

Joan Benoit dressed a lot more modestly than the current crop of elite females!

Effects of global warming, I guess? B-)

Here’s Joan Benoit at the 1984 Olympics: http://www.popsugar.com/fitness/photo-gallery/25277997/image/25277999/Joan-Benoit-Samuelson

I was going to say that it’s hard to get skimpier than that… and then I went and looked at the images of Kara Goucher. D***!

Edited to add: why do the men wear more clothes than the women?
