Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Bunsen, thank you for sharing that - I am going to try and stop being such a whiner! That is determination.

Nearly 100% humidity, dark and damp roads drove me indoors today which wasn’t much better. Interval workout on the treadmill. Man, I am slow.

Sent the link to kiddo, she has been having a hard time dealing with local red tape… She texted back, “When life takes your bike away, ride a random kids’ bike!”

Hip is doing better today, knocking on wood.

Bromfield - wow, sorry to hear about the cellulitis. I had it once years ago and it was truly horrible. I hope you are not in as much pain now. Thinking healing thoughts for you.

BB- I hope you maybe just have a little bit of inflammation.

Where is everyone??? Out doing that yard work??

Well that’s where I have been for 3 hours after work tonight. Pulling weeds. Spray painting some plant stands. Cutting some grass. Painting some window boxes. Followed by a nice long pup walk and now finally, dinner!

Love the late light nights!

I’m home. It was fun, but I’m glad to be home and unpacked.

My daughter is running her first track meet Saturday night! I never thought I would say those words! She’s running the 400 and the mile. It’s pretty low key, but I’m really proud of her. I’ll go watch her.

Home, planning to go for a run as soon as I get some idea when Mr. will be home.

That is so cool about your daughter, MOfWC!

Bit of a celebration in my household. The spinning studio for which my daughter is the general manager and head instructor, Body Cycle Studio, was voted best spinning studio in Philadelphia. Needless to say, my daughter is dilerious! What’s kinda cool is that with its focus on creating a homey welcoming atmosphere while delivering great classes, it beat out a fancy high tech, glitzy studio which is part of a New York chain that thinks nothing of trying to poach instructors and approached my daughter.

What an honor for MKD!!! (MK’s Daughter!!!)

So MOWC is this something she competes as a team or just on her own? Not so familiar with adult “track”!

I have not had a very healthy week. Thank goodness I am flying home tomorrow.

Michael - congrats to your daughter. I think a welcoming atmosphere is so important in any kind of fitness studio.

BB, glad to hear that your hip is feeling better.

MOWC, how exciting for your daughter! I’m sure you’ll be on the news as the mom jumping up and down the most cheering her on :).

Michael- that is very cool!

Re are what are called “all-comers meets” where any level of runner can ne’er various track events. It is low key, but it can be a little intimidating because you aren’t “hidden” the way you are in a big road race.

The first race I ever quit (after being a top regional marathoner) was an 800 meter track race. I got around the 400 mark and it was just not going to happen! It hurts! We did track meets in preparation for corporate regionals and nations back in the day.

Congrats to MNK’s daughter!

Ran 3 miles… Slow. Taped the butt/back prior to running. It is still sore, and many folks would have quit I suppose, but I have a relatively high pain threshold… I absolutely hate when docs ask, “on the scale of 1 to 10, 10 being childbirth…” No, IMO,18 hr labor ranks at only 8 or so. Rant over.

Forgot to add… If you are shopping for kinesio tape, do not buy KT tape. It is crap. A roll that I had for a year is no longer sticky. It was not very sticky to begin with. Get Rock Tape instead!

30 minutes of slow running this morning - 99% humidity, alerts for high tree and grass pollen. I believe it. Legs feel good, it’s just the breathing that’s miserable. Plus the giant hill I have to run up to get home. Someone pass me some cheese to go with my whine.

Aren’t our children wonderful? D had taken classes at one of the “glitzy” spin studios, then switched to a lower-key studio where she is one class away from completing a 30 day challenge! I think she’s done 6 classes a week (spin and barre). I’m really proud of her. I completely agree that environment is everything when it comes to studios.

MOWC - I’ve questioned my resolve at the 400 meter mark of the 800 many times. Race as fast as you can for 400 meters and then do it again? Makes no sense. The last 200 meters is like carrying a piano on your back. Will be doing the 400/800/1500 triple in another 3 weeks.

Yay for your daughter, sabaray! That’s commitment!
Ohio- I was thinking about you when I wrote that! I think the 800 is a really hard race because it is really anaerobic but LONG!

We have all-comers track meets, really really low key, here in Portland, Tuesday nights in June. The mile is a “predict mile” with no watches allowed. The winner is the person who predicts their time most accurately. I did it three of the five weeks last year… In the last one, I was lapped by the entire field, including a woman who was five months pregnant. The first person to finish was just behind me as I finished lap 2. However, I was the oldest one there by about twenty years.

However, as I finished, all the other competitors were waiting at the finish line, applauding. I liked that!

Cheers for MOWC’s D and sabaray’s D!

We had houseguests last night ( H’s sister and her H), that was one reason I ran in the AM. Went to yoga this AM, but that will be it as H and I are going out of town and will be leaving as soon as my workday is done.

Re the welcoming environment in studios/gyms - I fear when we downsize and move that I will never find a yoga studio like the one I practice at now. It is such a diverse and welcoming community.

^^^I hear you Fallgirl. I love my yoga studio–the owner and the instructors are really welcoming and helpful. I also like it because the classes are either warm or heated, something which I have come to appreciate.
