Finished the charity walk I signed up to do. Felt fine–hilly 3.5 miles. Cellulitis is much better and I had no problem walking. Looks like the antibiotic is working.
Inspired by the controversies on the “why… weight” thread, I ordered a glass of zin with dinner. Salad of butter lettuce, followed by game hen and sautéed spinach. No dessert even though the selection was amazing. I decided to stick to the Okinawa diet tonight (main principle: eat slowly and stop eating as soon as you feel full).
After dinner, I noticed that I was about 2,500 steps short of my 10k steps. Begged Mr. to walk around the hotel just a bit. I knew it! As soon as he started walking, he decided to keep going until we both heard the familiar buzzing sound. As usual, the hardest part is to get the butt going. Body in motion stays in motion. We moved our butts for 1.5 miles.
After a “not the healthiest” living I am back on track today. Going out in a few to get some steps in and running group (fingers crossed for no thunderstorms) this evening. I admit that I had a lot of fun, but really am anxious to get back on track.
I felt better this morning - once again, we have 99% humidity - it was only 53 out this morning, but 53 was also the dew point! Blech. Got in 5.3 miles and included some of my least favorite hills - the gentle rolling kind. I also used compression sleeves and those really helped with my legs.
I’ve been reading that other thread, but I’m at the point that people know we’re over here. If they were interested in doing what we do or participating in discussion here, they’d be here. I will just say that Mr. Sabaray used a weight loss pill at one point - prescribed by his previous physician. He is still close to 300 pounds. A higher fat, whole food diet helped me lose 100 + pounds and keep it off. To me, that speaks volumes.
ohio- Please let us know when you find the magic answer!
sabaray- I was thinking about you on my run this morning and glad you are feeling better. Remember that slow is fine! And- you are the role model for sensible and lasting weight loss. I’m so proud of you for all you continue to accomplish.
In life - not saying this is what is happening on the other thread - I think people like the “chatter” about how to lose weight and want to share tips, recipes, here say, etc. - but the intent to really DO something - really put forth a plan and effort - aren’t there. It’s a surface “want”. Or a quick fix want.
I am waiting for the thread entitled: “I REALLY need to lose weight! Looking For Advice! - all DEHW posters not welcome”!
I do not mind being slammed. The post peddling Contrave with another drug titrated to perfection is not just ridiculous, it is dangerous. Salt and pepper those drugs are not!
Really it was just the Contrave thing that put me over the edge. I understand the challenges of weight loss and I try as much as possible on a daily basis to walk in someone else’s shoes.
Yeah, I don’t care if I get slammed either. My reaction to the Contrave post was the same as yours BB and Ohio. Not just that, but with some of the other stuff that’s been posted, I just react to misinformation and junk science being put out there. It’s tough enough for people struggling with weight issues without being sold a bill of goods on a lot of plain wrong and dangerous advice. It’s in my genes, I can’t keep my mouth shut.
At one point I used Topamax for migraine - and yes, it can cause weight loss. The myriad side effects simply were not worth it - even with the intent of eliminating migraine! I cannot imagine using some of those drugs for the purpose of weight loss.
Bunsen, my last Costco trip I bought Smartwater per your recommendation. I’m hoping Mr. Sabaray starts drinking it!
Yeah- it was too hard for me to keep my fingers off the keyboard, too. I thought it was a joke or spam at first, but it wasn’t. abasket is totally right- it is easy to talk about the concepts and the newest fad theories, but no real interest in actually putting in the work to keep the weight off. And somewhat of a lack of recognition as to just how easy it is to lose all fitness with years of basic inactivity.
Oh thank heavens, voices of sanity and reason. I try to avoid drugs of any kind as much as possible, including antibiotics and NSAIDS. As far as I can tell, most drugs (I’m over-generalizing deliberately) have side effects of weight gain, weight loss, or are carcinogenic. Or all three.
I am feeling low this morning after another pound-up-pound-down-pound-up-pound-down week or two or three (actually, at this point, it’s two months). I am eating pretty carefully, gaining muscle definition from the waist up, pass the dog-fitness test (I can easily feel my ribs and I have a defined waist, so if I were a dog, I’d be at a good weight), but still have flappy batwings and a generously padded rear. My BodPod fat measurement was 35% and I know exactly where all that extra fat is. I look at my weight a year ago (or two or three or four) and that’s a really nice drop… My running speed is steadily improving and I can swim and bike with ease for distances that defied me a few years back… BUT damitall I’d like to lose the last seven pounds and it just really doesn’t want to be lost!
It is a beautiful day today and I am itching to get out and run. Last week was a very low mileage week for me with being out of town most of the week on business travel. And then we drove to H’s hometown over the weekend for a family wedding and that blew most of the beautiful weekend with very little opportunity to be outside. It was killing me with the gorgeous weather!
dmd77-sorry about your frustration over those last 7 lbs. You’ve made amazing progress and have some great accomplishments. But I totally get your frustration over not being able to lose the last little bit.
With being out of town and away for the wedding, I am very behind on CC. Sounds as if I don’t need to bother with the other weightloss thread!
Just throwing something out there- it’s totally fine if someone wants to avoid medication for whatever reason. It’s your body, I am not going to judge what you put into it. But please, don’t feel the need to judge others out loud. (This is directed at no one on here, just something that’s going on in my own life.)
People ask about the treatments I’m going through and then some feel the need to comment that I’m taking too many meds and “don’t you know what you’re doing to your body?!” No. I’m taking these powerful, sometimes disfiguring meds for funsies. It was always my dream in life to take 20ish pills a day.
Yes, I could not answer their questions but that’s not how I want to go through this illness. I want to be open with people who ask. I just wish I could know in advance who the anti-medicine people were going to be.
I was out and about on the town for around 2 hours yesterday in the wheelchair. Managed to push myself about a quarter of the time but I just don’t have the strength quite yet. I’m rolling around the house to build up the strength since I won’t have someone to push me when I have to go to school and other places. I’m trying really hard to get some of my independence back.
Dmd, the more fit one’s body is, the harder it is to drop weight. Remember the days when a moderately paced walk up a gentle hill was all it took to get the heart pounding? I do! My first post college 5k! I cried when I saw the hill at the end of it… The body becomes more efficient at spending energy, so it needs new “tricks.” I remember how iDad went into “damage control mode” by spending more time on his Airdyne and doing more weight lifting.
Romani, the comments about drugs are directed at a certain post in one of the current weight loss threads where a poster seriously recommended blending a questionable weight loss drug with another medication choke-full of serious side effects. That was akin to suggesting using a daily dose of laxative… Still shaking my head.
