Bunsen, you and I have a very different idea of what slow miles are. Oh, and what a reasonable sprint distance is.

Still hot here, but ran errands and walked the pups - I feel so sorry for them in their heavy coats! They are both very good at staying hydrated though!

MOWC - where did you find that oatmeal? Did you order it? I see they have other “real food” energy - sweet potato and sea salt among other items.

REI. I had never seen it before, but I heard of it. There’s somewhat of a trend away from sweet flavors.

I am so grateful for the Huma gels recommendation, MOfWC. The GU gels were too sweet and sticky for my taste. Mint chocolate was ok for a while… Glad that less sweetened options are available.

Glad you’re feeling up to a good run, but I’m with sabaray, BB. For me, six miles will never be a sprint, and I will think I am the speediest person alive if I can ever do a single mile under a 9 mile/min pace!

I walked 4 this morning with DH, and ran 3.8 slow miles this afternoon when it was 91 degrees :open_mouth: I spent the remainder of the day in the cool pool, sweeping and scooping out the fallen palm flowers.

We took DS out for dinner at Seasons 52. I always enjoy their grilled sesame salmon salad and the small portions of dessert in a shot glass–pecan pie tonight.

I think what Bunsen meant was that 10K is so hard that it is sort of a sprint. It’s a hard effort and, unfortunately, lasts sort of a long time!

Thank you, MOfWC, that’s what I meant. Since I am stupid enough to treat my training runs as if they are races, I bust my butt every run no matter how long it is, and 10Ks are HARD. Sprints and long races are challenging in their own ways (I was a 5k and under runner in my younger days).

This part of my post should make some lurking readers happy. I am officially out of commission for a week or maybe even longer! I am nursing a large gash on the bottom of my foot caused by a small chard of glass which I stepped on accidentally and then said gash was further enlarged by the incompetent urgent care doc who tried to take the glass out and bailed (I would not go into the details of his incompetent work, but basically I was told to live with it). It is all good now. The local ER folks did an outstanding job. No wonder that hospital received high marks from USNews. The funny part about my ER trip: I tried to protest being wheeled in a wheelchair because I did not want to miss my steps, but I was told that hopping around on one foot is not gonna cut it by their safety rules.

This is such a cool story:

These Olympics qualifiers never ran competitively until they turned 24!

Oh no, BB, that’s terrible! Hope you heal up quickly. Are you on crutches to keep pressure off the foot? If so, you can attach the Fitbit to one of the crutch legs and get you steps in  .

Bunsen, how awful! Many moons ago, I cut the bottom of my foot and needed stitches - so painful and awkward. Speedy healing!

Today is a rest day and I am really happy about that. My Chef’d meals arrived Friday and again, everything looks to be very high quality. I preferred the Plated packaging with the jute liner - but we all know it’s about the food.

Hope everyone is enjoying a long weekend - Mr. Sabaray had to work yesterday but he is now in summer mode and off for a week! Hopefully I can get him to the gym.

Bunsen- that’s terrible! Did it get infected? I’m sorry!

No- Fitbit doesn’t work with crutches. I learned that in 2014 (well, it was the Vivofit). It measured some steps but really low.

Oh, no bunsen. Sending healing wishes out to you.

Got a few decent walks in yesterday as well as yoga. Plan to take a longer walk this morning before it gets hot and then yoga.

Doing a 2 1/2 hour ride this morning with my friend who just placed 1st in the Crit and 2nd in the Road an TT at the Masters Nationals last week. There will be no living with her Highness. She’ll probably make me pull her up all the hills and then scortch me on the flats! It is so much fun and inspiring to ride and train with athletes of this caliber for whom age is meaningless. And she did this with a hip that needs replacing. She’s holding off on the surgery until after October so that she won’t be in recovery at my daughter’s wedding, lol.

Oh no and owwie, BB! Hope the foot mends quickly.

We’re taking a bike ride over to the park and walking the trails this morning. It’s going to be a hot one. The weather forecast for the upcoming week shows highs in the 90’s every day. Summer is really here.

Michael- it’s so cool that you have such talented and fun riding friends. It IS fun when your sport embraces all ages and both sexes!
Plantmom- enjoy the biking!

I have a friend visiting and we went over to the trail this morning where Plantmom and Fireandrain walked when they were in town for the race. My friend didn’t make one of the turns, though, and I lost her! She found her way back, but I had to run a little more than I planned while I looked for her. 4.8 miles done for a 37 mile week. Need to taper this week for my tough race next Saturday. It is getting warm here- and humid.

Oh BB - that had to be painful!! You’ll find a way to keep fit in some way - upper body or something! I hate when people get subpar medical care.

3.5 humid but pretty miles this morning in my daughters neighborhood in the columbus area . Have to do something to counteract the delicious dining and ice cream tripping we are also enjoying! So appreciate holiday weekends!

Thanks, all!! It is painful, and I do not want to step on it, so I am doing a stork hop around the house.

Did you know that hopping on one leg generates 2X more steps than walking the same distance?

I did make my 10,000 steps last night! Was only 1,000 short, so hopped around the kitchen washing cherries for dinner.

Bunsen, I’m so sorry. I hope you heal quickly and fully.

Well, even though my Rheum and I thought I was doing much better, the blood results say otherwise. My inflammation markers (specifically sed rate, waiting on CRP) have doubled. My sed rate has never gone above about 45 and it’s now 89. My other blood counts are off, too, such as a pretty elevated white blood count despite going through a course of heavy antibiotics.

So I’m back to being frustrated.

On a good note, my BIL was married yesterday and I was able to “dance” in my wheelchair for a long time. There was a dance line thing and everyone banded together to clear things out of the way so that I could join the line. It was so much fun

“Oh BB - that had to be painful!! You’ll find a way to keep fit in some way - upper body or something! I hate when people get subpar medical care.”

Thanks, abasket! Hope your wedding planning is going smoothly. I now understand why folks beeline for the stellar ER instead of the urgent care clinics. As my experience has shown over the years, the latter are often staffed by docs who should not be there at all. And you got that right - I will keep doing something to keep myself in shape. I was able to make breakfast today with only a minimal help from Mr., like carrying the mega watermelon to the sink for washing. No way I would have attempted a one legged hop with that monstrosity in my hands!

Water Mellon hop on one leg? Am I sensing a whole new fitness trend. Could this be the start of a new reality TV fitness show?

Well, Michael, that would be a fun show to watch! Your comment brought back memories of our elementary school PE classes. Did anyone here do “fun” relays? Something like this: the lead person would do a sack “run” across the gym, pass the virtual baton to the next person who would do a “kangaroo” (hopping forward while squeezing a basketball between the knees), then the next person would dribble the basketball back, then something similarly stupid, and the last two people would do a “wheelbarrow.” Many, many combinations of these stupid exercises were possible! So… I told Mr. that when I get tired of hopping around, he can transport me using the “wheelbarrow” method.
