Nre, many thanks. Quite helpful to know that it is a cooking project vs. just throwing meat on a hot grill after a 5-min preheat (which is what I almost always do).
Thanks for the info @BunsenBurner. We’re still undecided right now. I think the only concern is that there just isn’t much time to train for it. I should have started looking into other marathon options a month ago. And really I’m just being impatient. There are several opportunities for H to qualify for 2018 (but I would have to qualify again…) and our local marathon in November is in the top 10 for number of people who qualify for Boston. But still… it would be really nice to go in 2017! So I think we’ll kick the idea around for a few more days and then make a decision by this weekend.
I am a very social person, but I generally can NOT stand wedding or baby showers. Fortunately, I haven’t had to attend too many!
Ha! Me neither, really! I haven’t attended a wedding in years. Attended one baby shower last year, for my niece. Don’t anticipate any others in the next few years. I don’t know, they just aren’t things that in our family are “dreamed about”, if that makes sense. We’ll plan something when the situation arises and go from there.
Lol, MOfWC! I find myself in the same boat. I guess the predictability of what happens at these events is what is making me dislike them: eat, play a stupid game or two, whatch the mom-to-be or bride open the gifts…
Hmmm … look - 52502, 52503 and 52504 appear to have gone into the wrong thread - sorry folks!
I think they are posts sympathizing with me for having to blow my Saturday afternoon at a baby shower.
I suppose someday my daughter will get married (now that could be the subject of a great thread…) and there will be payback.
I like it when threads cross! It’s like hearing part of a conversation while you’re walking down the street. You can imagine what came before and after.
I don’t know what to say about my weekend. I’ve spent years trying to get fast enough to run with my dog when we do dog agility events, and it’s really starting to pay off–but I still hit this morning tired and achy and sore-of-knee. We did get a huge ribbon Saturday for being the fastest team in the non-sporting group (my dog is a standard poodle), which was fun.
I continue to experiment with running every single (bleeping) day. Yes, I like the consistency of it, and the “let’s go, it’s got to happen sometime” part, but I’m not sure (this morning) if it’s the best idea for my muscles… I seem to be going slower every day lately, but then I’ve also been doing a whole lot of dog stuff (it was 65K steps over Friday-Saturday-Sunday) and my heart rate for the same speed seems to be way down. So I struggle with the question of whether or not I’m doing enough for recovery. But… I do feel better AFTER I run than I did BEFORE I ran, so that’s something. It has been good for increasing my average weekly mileage, which is now solidly around 15-17, more for those weeks where I don’t spend the weekend at dog events (and can do a longer run on the weekend days).
As well, I’ve stopped food logging and counting calories, and am pretty much just focused on a) not eating past the point of almost-satiated, b) eating “healthy” food, c) no added sugar, d) minimally processed foods. I’ve maintained in the same 2-pound range since early April, with much lower stress around eating. So that’s good.
This all ended up being longer and more thoughtful than I intended, but there it is.
I’m visiting my sister now. I went to see my D over the weekend. Been a huge diet and exercise fail. Big fail.
Ate too much, out to eat way too much and with my D way too much to drink. But I’m having a good time and helping my sister accomplish things. It’s a huge task.
I did pack exercise clothes. And my D lives in a very walkable place. Yesterday I went for a walk, we walked to lunch and then in the other direction for ice cream.
I’ll be home on the weekend and will get back to eating better and exercising better.
If you do one thing, write down your passwords. You cannot imagine how much time we’ve spent trying to figure out passwords. There are so many of them. Sister knows a few but there are so many more.
dmd- Yay on the ribbon! I am not at all sure running every day is optimal for performance. In fact, I’m pretty darn sure it is not. I guess I do it for other reasons- mental etc. My bigger mistake is trying to keep my weekly mileage at 36 or so miles, which means there really aren’t any 1 or 2 mile days unless I’m very, very sick or have travel conflicts. I think lower weekly mileage would work better with streaking.
Yes, pizzagirl- the baby/wedding shower comments actually were responsive to C3B’s post and not just random!
Then it’s totally my bad - there was another thread on that and I must have thought I was on that!
Sorry guys!
I have been thinking about you, deb - don’t be too hard on yourself.
Me, too, Deb. It’s a tough time. It will settle down.
Deb, I always love, love, love your honesty and humor.
Especially the walk one way for food and the other way for ice cream - honesty AND humor!
Need to get some exercise yet tonight . It’s hot - close to 90. I’m thinking either a long walk or a bike ride. I WILL do it!
Deb, take care of your sister and yourself.
You people are the best.
Well, I am deciding that I can’t shake my head at you early risers for getting up before dawn to exercise. I just got home at 9:45 - still NOT dark here from a run. Cooled down by giving my S’s car that is parked in our drive while he’s on his honeymoon a quick wash - at almost 10pm. Who does THAT?!
I guess I have my own “odd” hours to keep! Now to try and settle down in the next hour so I can sleep!
Always nice to hear what people did over the weekend – lots of good activity and good eating.
I got in a run Saturday morning before it got too hot; this morning I took a 14-mile bike ride. Yesterday we painted the railing on our front porch – what really needs painting is the porch floor, but we decided to do the railing first. So at least one more weekend day this summer will be spent painting.
I couldn’t run every day – my muscles and joints need recovery time. I applaud people who do (MoWC and now dmd). But big congrats dmd for the ribbon. Sounds like quite the accomplishment.
Agree - take care of yourself, Deb.
Congrats to dmd and her speedy pooch on their big ribbon!
Abasket, I am a night owl. That sounds just like me - running after dinner and doing housework or the like.
