Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

My niece does not like chicken!! She is the first non-vegetarian kid I know who does not like chicken. She eats fish and meat. So it is grilled salmon for dinner for me!

It’ll take me a long while to catch up with the past few weeks here!

Bunsen, I’m sorry you have had to wait so long to get a diagnosis on your hip. Fingers crossed that answers will come in your next photos.

I got on the scale this afternoon. Boo hiss. Even with all the time on my feet, I’m not immune to the effects of extravagant food and beverage consumption. Cheese curds, bratwurst, cookies, pie, cake, fried fish and chicken, french fries, white bread, fancy cocktails, ice cream. Sigh. I know that a few extra pounds aren’t too much of a problem for me, but I feel like I’ve been a bad influence on DH. I’m atoning. At the grocery store shopping, today, I stuck to the outside aisles with fresh veggies and fruit, lean proteins, less(er) fat cheese and dairy. H brought home a fresh mango and an herbed olive oil sauce from a coworker. Using the bounty and healthy provisions, I made a broiled gyro chicken salad dinner.

5.5 miles of run/walk in 3:1 intervals with low HR. It’s going to be hard to re-adapt mentally to the heat and humidity. Goodness…even my forearms were sweating in the run :open_mouth:

I went horseback riding last week–great fun! I rode a Paso Fino which has a very smooth trot. So easy to ride and bonus (!), Fitbit gave me a bunch of steps.

I am bad. But if I had a hankering for chick-fil-a, I would have one. Just one with a fruit cup and a diet beverage. 490 calories, way too much sodium but overlook that.

Sometimes you got to have what you got to have.

Back from my sisters. Back on the wagon. But I do love chick-fil-a.

First day running in 2 days. Cold/fever yesterday. Thought I shouldn’t push it. Have a 1500 meter race Saturday in West Virginia. Need to get a track workout in.

Boo, Ohio. Feel better. What did you think about Toronto running?

Got some shoes to wear test. Not allowed to say what they are yet and I don’t even know what model they will be called. I love free shoes! I’ll take them out in the morning. They aren’t beautiful- let me just say that. And they aren’t Hokas.

Did a 20-mile bike ride yesterday with the husband. Today were two walks on the beach. In-between the two walks, I sat on the beach for 5 hours and read. Lobster for dinner!

BB, I was off the grid when your hip went bad – what happened?

My feeling about cravings – if you can have just one, go for it. But if caving in leads to an endless binge of fast food and junk food, then stay away. Now, if I could only follow my own advice. …

One of my friends who is always complaining about her weight, and how hard it is to lose weight despite how well she eats, has posted on FB in the last day a photo of a cake and a chicken pot pie that she baked. Somehow I think her definition of “eating well” needs some refinement.

“BB, I was off the grid when your hip went bad – what happened?”

I wish I knew! That is a big $$ Q. One thing for sure - I was not even training for any races.

Thanks for the well wishes. Fancy pix scheduled. Exercise plan adopted. Life continues.

Nice time in Toronto. Only ran one day along the waterfront. Tons of cyclists and runners. I came upon a group of 30 young runners that I just had to pass. Couple of the younger guys tried to stay with me, but I wouldn’t let it happen! Luckily they veered off on a different course so I could slow down to a realistic pace! Great city. It’s nice to spend time with your kids when they are older. I’d really like to alway live by them if I could as we get older. I think about that a lot.

That’s so fun MOWC- how cool to get such a major freebie!

Ohio, I hope I didn’t spread my cold down (over?) to your part of the state of Ohio!

I was still hacking a good bit today. But I felt good enough to head out for a hot, humid walk tonight - which turned into a run anyway! Started off with a 1/2 mile of walk/run and then just ran. Not fast, but slow and steady and for 30 minutes or so - as long as I could keep my breathing ok, I was ok. I’ll sweat this dang virus out of me!!!

MOWC - have you seen how the USOC is forcing Oiselle to remove Kate Grace images of her winning the trials. Nike’s heavy handed tactics are going to backfire on them. I’m a huge Nick Symmonds supporter.

BB, so sorry your hip is still giving you trouble. I hope the fancy pics help figure it out.

My MRI results came back on my hips: Trochanteric Bursitis. This is the second bursitis diagnosis this year- the first one in my knee. My rheum wants me to go to my first physical therapy session before deciding whether or not I should get a corticosteroid shot.

My last dose of prednisone was yesterday and I am absolutely miserable. I’m hoping though that weight loss will be easier now that I’m off the devil drug.

I’m doing pretty well pushing myself around in my wheelchair now- at least inside on hard floors (baby steps!). I’m still really, really hoping I won’t have to use it much longer.

Sorry about your hip BB and hoping the problem and pain are resolved soon.

Ohio- Yes! Oiselle isn’t allowed to mention anything about Rio (aka The Big Event) in any social media. They can talk about their athletes as far as trials performance but not about the Olympics. Kate’s boyfriend has blasted the USOC on social media and so has the founder of Oiselle. It’s so stupid.

Another slow slog this morning, but 3.36 miles done. 68, 100% humidity. Why, oh why? Humidity and pollen - my favorite combination!

I’m afraid with Chik-Fil-A it would be a slippery slope for me and it would soon be back to once a week, then every few days, then every day…you get the idea. I’d be picking up a dozen donuts before you knew it! For MCM I’m staying at a hotel that joins a nice mall - and they have a Shake Shack. That’s going to be my post-race treat!

That cr*p with Oiselle makes me more inclined to buy gear from them. What a load of horse patooey.

I think that’s important @sabaray. To know what your limits are. I know I’m different than some other people. For me, I could be satisfied with the occasional chick-fil-a. Or one donut. But my H. Once he falls off the wagon, it’s bad. I get annoyed. He works so hard to take off the weight, why doesn’t he want to keep it off. But no, take it off, then I swear he works as hard to put the weight back on. Rinse and repeat.

I didn’t know that about Oiselle, what a bunch of horse patooey, to quote sabaray.

Maintenance has long been an issue for me, deb - I guess that’s why I’m so rigid about it now! I just got sick of it - lose, gain, lose, gain…and on and on. There’s always going to be junk I want to eat, but physically I feel so much better with a healthier diet. I just don’t know that it’s the kind of thing you can ever truly relax about if you want to lose and keep it off.

Remember- I have a 10% off code for you from Oiselle for first time buyers.

Sadly I’m not a first time buyer! Or I would be all over that!

Bummer, I am not a fist time buyer either!

Testing mystery shoes - I love it!!

You could still try. I’ll try to remember to get it to you when I get home. I have a card at home.
