Glad you feel better, abasket! Got the link, Michael! He looks TOUGH!!

6.4 miles- tried to keep HR lower and didn’t look at splits. Flat path. I did OK. Still humid but light cloud cover helped. I am soaked at the end!

Got a new Donna Jo running skirt (JoJo model) on sale at my Fleet Feet yesterday. I like the fabric a lot- stretchy and soft. It’s black polka dots on white with black undershorts. The shorts are comfortable but don’t have grippers, so they ride up a little. Also- no pockets. Not always a problem, but can be. It’s cute to wear around, too.

Pilates class done, off to yoga. Then going to see my first-ever polo match. My town is known for polo and I have never seen a match in the 20 years I’ve lived here. For lunch will have a smoothie from a new little cafe that just opened.

Kind of annoyed at myself that I still can’t get rid of this middle age tummy mush though despite having a strong core!! I know, I know, up the cardio!

First time I got a guilt trip message on the phone from my Garmin Connect - " you haven’t made much progress on your step goal today- what’s up?"

FitBit did that to me during a funeral yesterday! I find myself talking back to it.

Son was winning a trail triathlon in MD today and the volunteer didn’t direct him correctly at the first major bike turn. He said it was fun and he won his age group. The perils of being in the lead!

Your son is such a good sport, MOfWC. Glad to hear he won his age group. That’s my biggest fear about “scenic” race courses - to accidentally make a wrong turn.

I walked around Ikea and an art fair today for almost 3 hours without any kind of mobility aid!!

Abasket, those summer colds are the pits. Glad you’re feeling better.

Did a lovely 45 mile ride today at tempo pace. Hamstring felt good, just have to keep working on stretching it and doing rehab strengthening exercises. Couple of weeks and I think I’ll be back to my squats and deadlifts.

MOWC, what’s interesting about my son’s weight training routine is that he trains for strength, not muscle size. As you can see from his pictures, he’s not a big guy. His lifting routine is based on 5x5 sets of benches, squats, rowing and deadlifts with the heaviest weights he can handle with good form. His program highlights the difference between sarcoplasmic hypertrophy and myofibrillar hypertrophy. The former increases muscle size by increasing the amount of fluid in the sacroplasm of muscle cells and is achieved by doing sets of 8-12 reps with more moderate weights. The latter increases the thickness of the muscle fibers which results in the ability to generate more force and is achieved by doing sets of 3-6 reps at heavier weights. So my son doesn’t have big bulging muscles like a body builder but has incredible muscle density. His routine has really paid off. He fights at about 149-156 depending on the weight class he wants to be in and at that weight can bench about 340 and deadlift 500. His opponents just don’t expect that kind of strength in someone his size. Works to his advantage.

Having a fun weekend at a family reunion (H and his siblings and their kids/grandkids). Food-wise this has been a disaster. Exercise a little better. This group likes to play lots of yard games–plus I did get to walk this morning–getting steps in.

I will be very happy to get back to my regular eating habits–H’s family loves sugar. It is easier for me to avoid it than to moderate but I give in to peer group pressure–just try a little they say . . .

Walk on the beach and a 90 minute bike ride today. Now I’m exhausted.

Romani, I WAS AT IKEA TOO! And as long as you’re in Michigan, I know we were at the same one!!!

Dang, if I only knew! Did you see me???

Another 25 yard pile of bark is decorating our driveway at the moment. We really, really hate weeds.

@abasket small world! I was the overweight person with purple/red hair limping around with my skinnier-than-skinny red headed spouse. We’re both 6 ft or taller so we do tend to stick out :stuck_out_tongue:

Did you make it over to Art in the Park afterwards? It was in downtown Plymouth so only a few miles away. We bought some absolutely gorgeous pieces there from a potter named Darlin Nothnagel to put on our newly bought IKEA coffee table. lol

That’s funny! Glad you got to walk/limp around without aid, Romani!

I have to admit, in Ikea, I’m not looking at much of anything except for “where are the swedish meatballs and lingonberry sauce?” and which line is the shortest to get me out of there! Except for this adorable toddler whose dad was making him blurt out the biggest baby belly laughs ever! Haha - it was actually a fun trip made more fun by the two 19 year old girls who we were shopping for - got a great buy on a futon - $89! - gotta love Ikea! Didn’t know about Art In The Park - sounds cool!

30 minute trail run (no walking even up the hills, yea me) and walked 9 holes of golf. Am just a little sore from the golf cart accident but it didn’t slow me down  it was the most gorgeous day.

Went to a potluck yesterday, needless to say, my eating is terrible. I have to get it together.

I am still doing the C25k without a race in mind. It was really the best idea, I feel strong. I’ve left off my watch so I don’t know how fast or how far and that’s ok. I think once I’m done, I’m going to do a 5k210k. I have a race in mind in October I’ll see how it goes.

My D is into weightlifting. But trying to not get too bulky. I love her Instagram, she posts a lot of what she’s doing workout wise.

So cool that you had a close encounter, romani and abasket.

My crazy work time is almost at an end. Very long days last week and 8 hours on Saturday, so a 1 day weekend for me. Still managed yoga both days and two long walks today. Plan to be back out running tomorrow AM.

^^^Dedication!

Deb, I think a re-do of c25k or5k210k is a great and SMART idea - it sounds like it is building not only physical confidence but MENTAL confidence - also, glad to know your noggin is doing ok!

Spent two days hiking and camping with DD at Acadia National Park.

The highlight was when she decided to drag me up the Beehive cliff trail. Here’s a picture of the top part, a little blurry but you can see a person in the middle of it:

There are iron rungs pounded into the rocks in some parts that you have to climb up to proceed, and a grate at one point:

Did I mention it was raining for most of the hike up, making everything slippery? I went across that grate on my butt, I’m not proud.

A bit scary, but pretty exhilarating as well.

Holy cow! If I was hiking that trail, someone would have to carry me across that grate!

I actually went through C25K three times… the first time through, I did each week twice or three times, until the days felt easy (ish). The second time, I tried to go faster during the running bits and walk faster during the walking bits. The third time, I tried to run faster during the running bits and run slower during the walking bits. It really helped keep me from trying to do too much too soon.
