BB, interested in hearing what is going on in your hip. Torn tissue? Will it heal with rest? Is surgery required? Best of luck.
Received another guilt trip message from Garmin today about inactivity. Never any congrats or positive reinforcement. What have you done for my lately.
The Instapot finally arrived. Wasn’t delivered last week from us postal because dog was outside? Wife is friends with the mail lady. Conspiracy?
^^^Haha - let us know what you cook!! (or your wife!)
Last night was a fast 3.1 mile run on the course that our 5K race will be Saturday. It’s very flat but also very open with no trees, so no shade. That shouldn’t be too much of a problem early Saturday morning, but it sure made for a hot and sweaty run last night.
BB - your procedure sounded interesting, thanks for sharing the link. I hope you aren’t too uncomfortable in that joint now. And I really hope the doctor gets some useful information from the results. Is there much that can be done for torn tissue? As long as this has been bothering you, it doesn’t seem too likely that it will heal by itself.
Yeah, it is getting progressively worse
and becoming more than a nuisance. I suspect if that is a tear, it will be either a very tailored PT program or some kind of surgical repair followed by PT. Looong ways to go. Hope I will hear from the doc soon. I am not against surgery if it can help.
Sorry to sound like such a whiner here. Most folks working around me have no idea what is going on. I am keeping positive and just suck up the whatever pain.
<3 and a big hug!!! ^^^^^ You’re a trooper and a glass half-full girl!!!
What would have caused the tear? You hadn’t ramped up to long runs yet, right? I hope it is something easier. I don’t think you are whining at all! You are amazingly calm about it all.
BB: do you have a labral hip tear? Friend’s D had this–she was a soccer player and it was painful. I looked at your link and got as far as the part with the needle and had to stop reading!! Yikes. Hope your docs can fix whatever is going on with the hip.
I was not running at all on a consistent basis, that’s the deal. Just did not have the time between work and school etc. Anyway, doc said runners do not usually get injured in this way. All symptoms are consistent with a tear. Lol, I always tend to wreck something when I am NOT running.
Hmmmm… maybe I sleep-played soccer?
(Pretty sure some reading this are happy and wishing me bad luck
)
My son did Kona Ironman with a torn labrum and a sports hernia. The run was very painful and his last training runs had to be done at a 4% incline on the treadmill. He had surgery in December 2013 after the October Kona race.
OMG, MOfWC. I now recall that! Your son is unbelievable. A true ironman.
Anyway, I am grounded from running until the doc studies the fancy pix and decides what other needle or similar torture I have to be subjected to.
^ Not liking because of the grounding, but from you seeing someone come back from a hip scope. It can be done.
Any deformity in your hip? Something that would make it wear out faster?
Thoughts are with you BB. Hang in there, your matter of fact, upbeat attitude is remarkable (and refreshing).
Bunsen, you are far more cheerful than I would be! Aren’t you glad you have your weights and pushups to keep you occupied?
Some good news - reducing your sugar intake rapidly improves heart health markers! Small study on children, but builds on other research. iDad’s favorite Robert Lustig summarized:
Oh no, Bunsen
At least you’re finally getting some answers to your painful, mysterious hip problem. Hope the PT option w/o surgery is a go.
I’ve been trying to get to the root of my lifelong dental issue, pun intended, sad face :(. Spent the morning with my favorite endodontist. I did fit in my 10,000 steps but am feeling like tossing the Fitbit right now. Too much pressure! I ran/walked yesterday in the heat. Hoping for a gym day tomorrow.
@MichaelNKat I think that’s what I need to do. I have a desk job and I believe it makes the issue worse. I tend to have tighter than normal hamstrings, but through regular exercise and stretching I can touch my toes no problem. Currently, my hamstring are so tight I have to ease into it. That and my back is killing me. Every ten minutes or so, if I breathe in deeply I crack and creak in my back.
Something needs to change.
Niquii- Can you get a standing/adjustable desk? I have one at work and it is a lifesaver! OR- one of those kneeling chairs. If you have hamstring/back issues, your employer needs to accommodate you with a comfortable chair or standing desk. It is becoming extremely common in the workplace.
Well, I survived the third race of my trail series, 5.56 miles with 1360 feet of climbing. Since we started and ended at the same spot, that was also 1360 feet of descending, 500 feet of it in half a mile in the middle. Our first warm evening–low 80s, warm for Portland–and the mosquitoes were out for the first time too. just finishing felt like a victory. Not DFL. Next week is historically the longest and flattest run of the series (they announce the course each Monday)–bring it on!
Wow, dmd, congratulations on finishing your trail race last night. That sounds like a brutal course to begin with and the temperature and mosquitoes make it even tougher! I’ll bet you will be ready for a flat run next week!
Tonight is a 5K that is the 3rd in a series of 5 races. Temperature at race time is forecast to be 90 and currently the humidity is 80%. Not pleasant, but it’s only 3 miles so I think it will be OK. The race organizers have said they are dropping tonight’s race from the stats for the race series because they don’t want people pushing themselves for PRs with the heat. I completely understand, but am a little bummed because I’m doing pretty well in the standings and I think tonight would have helped me move up. Although I don’t love the heat, it doesn’t bother me as much as it seems to bother others. Of course, having said that I will probably crash and burn tonight! It’s H’s birthday today so we’re doing dinner afterwards at a great burger place with some of our friends who are also running the race. It should be a fun time, although we will be a sticky sweaty mess!
Sounds like heat is the name of the game for the next few days for many of us. I mean HEAT!
Feeling a little overwhelmed with work tasks and trying to get out of town for a long weekend road trip to Chicago this weekend - wanting to get things done at work, get things organized at home, get in some exercise and leave without a care - somehow, it doesn’t seem to work that way!!!
Everyone remember to hydrate and make good decisions for your health.
